Aug 29, 2011as a casual user of maya, i regularly import .iges files from other 3D modelling programs. in past versions (specifically maya 2011), the .iges import/export bundle was located under the plug-in manager; however, i cannot locate this in maya 2012.

Jul 25, 2013Since we upgraded to Inventor 2012 SP1 on W7 x64 most machines cannot open or save out step or iges files. The translator shows as 'On demand' and when i save copy as the 'options' button is inactive. We just get the standard error 'Problems encountered while saving the document'.
I see lots of old posts but nothing relating specifically to stp files.

Nov 13, 2011New to the program but followed the instructions....IF I follow them to the letter, an *IGES file is created but it is only a 1 KB File of no use (an example *DXF File is 27 MB). I am trying this to see if Autocad is the solution I need to turn all my 3D files into IGES and STL. What basic blunder I am making?

When exporting to IGES all colors of the model get lost, but the geometry is OK. I don't use any shaders, textures or complex materials. I would like to use simple object colors / vertex colors.
how to preserve the colors in IGES? Are there any export plugins available that support colors in IGES?

Sep 5, 2012How do i export a .iam to STEP or STP or IGES without the three being expordted? i dont want the costumers to be able to see the anything in the three but 1 file (base1 or something).
What i do today is, i make a new part and derive the .iam file and then export it to step but this is getting hard to do when you have many .iam files.

Dec 12, 2012I've been attempting to export geometry (which I believe is in the proper format) out of AutoCAD 2013 to the .iges (or .igs) solid body model format with no luck. I found the instructions in the AutoCAD documentation but when I try and execute, no luck. I do get the mandatory "1 object found that "fits the file type format requirements" dialogue so again I'm pretty sure that I'm doing things correctly.
Do I need a special plug-in? Here is the info on this type of export: Click Output tabSend panelExport.In the IGES Export Data dialog box, in the Files of type box, select IGES (*.igs, *.iges).In the File Name box, specify the name of the IGES file.Click Save.Select the objects to export and press ENTER to begin the export process.When export is finished, a notification bubble is displayed.
I don't even get the IGES Export Data dialog box to show up..
AutoCAD Architecture :: Convert All Blocks In Drawing To Mass Elements And Export To IGES
Oct 7, 2013I´m trying to write a script to convert all the blocks in a drawing to mass elements and export them to IGES thereafter.
I would like to select everything first. Then launch refedit and select all the blocks.
After that I would like to convert them to mass elements. When saving to IGES I would need to select everything again.
I pieced the following script together, but it fails. I think it is bexause of the request to select objects manually. Could I add a delay which would enable me to select an object?
Also it looks like ACADA is not accepting the "all" command when pselect is called by a script.

AutoCad :: Drawing Options From Rhino 3D
Oct 11, 2011Only two weeks ago I started using Autocad. In the past I used to do a lot of modeling with Rhino 3D. Because of the similarities among the two products, the change was quite smooth. Still, there is a series of (basic) operations I miss a lot. I hope they exist in Autocad too (who knows, under a different name).
Among the features I miss the most, are the following:
-Draw line > Both sides
-Offset > Both sides
-Direction lock (tab key)
Revit :: Editing Imported Rhino Mass?
Feb 14, 2013I have a relatively simple mass modeled in Rhino that I imported to a Revit Mass Family (via .sat file). I then placed walls, roofs, structure on the face of this mass. However I would like to be able adjust this mass, either in Rhino or Revit and the walls and structure adjust accordingly. Now however, if I reload the mass into my Revit family, and then reload the family to my model, and then attempt to Update to Face, the error "Faces defining this Element cannot be reacquired." and my only option is to delete the offending wall/roof etc.
Is this just a limitation in Revit/Rhino, or am I totally doing it wrong?

Oct 8, 2011I've installed the student version of Maya 2012 on my computer (windows 7). At first, it was working fine but one day, I tried to Save As and Maya wasn't responding anymore... Had to go in the Task Manager to shut it down and when I did, it told me that the program wasn't responding. Later on, I found out that the problem wasn't only with the Save As function, but with every function that requires Maya to browse on my computer (Set Project, Open Scene, New Project, Create Reference, browsing textures, etc). I tried to uninstall and re-install Maya, did not work, delete the Maya folder in my documents, did not work, allow Maya in my firewall, did not work, even deactivate my firewall, did not work..

May 3, 2011I was working on setup up several camera animations in a file. I saved the file, and put the settings in for all 4 cameras to render. I started Batch Render running, it saved, began rendering the first frame and then Maya crashed. It was able to save a .mb version as it was closing. I have since been unable to get either file to open correctly.
If I try to directly open the files, they load 100%, the status bar immediately switches to "Writing <username>.20110503.<time>.ma" and the Crash Reporter appears before the viewport can even update and show the model.
If I try importing either file into a new document, it will load completely, and a dialog window pops up with: Could not save file"/var/folders/FL/FLo7J2o4H4OV9SDiREDU4U+++TI/-Tmp-/thompirson.20110503.1216.ma".
If you click OK, Maya crashes without the Crash Reporter opening.

Nov 17, 2012I was just doing a bunch of test renders and playing with lights when a weird render turned up out of nowhere that is sort of a transparent red and black? This happened yesterday, but it actually crashed maya. This time around, it didn't crash, but I'm unable to save my scene. This is the log for the error:

May 10, 2012I have a student license for Autodesk Maya 2012 (I'll need it for school), but whenever I try and start up the setup, I get this weird message:
error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesAutodeskMaya2012PYTHON_LICENSE
Then the following message:
Fatal error during installation. #229: failed to run AdskExecuteSequence
Then "Failed to initialize Autodesk Maya 2012"
And then it the installation exits itself out.
I have a 32bit Windows computer.

Apr 20, 2011I just got Maya 2012 student edition. I created a quick rig with the default maya settings (Skeleton gen, Characterization tool, Character controls).
The position of the rig doesn't update until I let go of the controls. On other rigs the rig updates real time.

Jul 21, 2011We have been generating technical illustrations using Mental Ray in Maya 2011 with brilliant results. The studio upgraded to Maya 2012 and we now find that when we render any existing scenes, or any new scenes using entirely Maya 2012 nodes, we don't have any contour lines.
Our scenes are setup as follows:
Materials - Contour_Shader_Simple.outValue > ShadingGroup.miContourShader
Cameras - Contour_Composite.message > Camera.miOutputShader
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Contrast Shader > Contour_Contrast_Function_Levels
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Store Shader > Contour_Store_Function
why the scenes now don't have any contour lines?
Maya :: Modify Pivot Crashing 2012?
May 3, 2012The video pretty much explains it. Randomly when I move the pivot (d) and snap to point (v) it crashes on mouse release. This has been happening recently more than is acceptable.
I included about 30 seconds up to the issue to show what exactly I was doing before the crash.

Jun 14, 2011I have down loaded the program (Maya 2012 Student Version ) but most of the time when I click on some icons, I got the message as follows: " The file being saved was created by a Student Version of Maya intended for personal learning only. If you save the file, this message will always appear whenever the file is opened.”since I am not saving the files, I am just clicking some icons, I don't know why I got this message. It makes me so inconvenient to use this program because I got this Pop up screen almost every 10 seconds though.

May 18, 2012he creates a cylinder where the side faces have only one subdivision, meaning each of the 20 side faces are a single rectangle with no subdivisions. Then he wants to add a subdivision around the entire cylinder. He clicks on a icon and touches one of the edges of one of the faces and there appears a subdivision around the entire cylinder. Not only that but he can take his mouse and move that ring up or down to whatever position he wants. In this case he moved it up close to the top to sharpen the resulting smoothing.
I cant find the icon in 2012. Where is the command to do this located?

Apr 20, 2011Tried to animate in new maya? If I make a simplest animation like 24 frames long, where is a skeleton with 1 root and 3 more bones...so:
1-st frame - starting pose
24-th frame - starting pose
and then somewhere at frame 12 change position of 3 bones and set a keyframe
Starting pose goes mess... I've checked this behaviour under Mac OS and Windows XP. it is the same broken. is it a new feature which I simply don't know how to control?

Aug 23, 2011I am working back in forth between school, and my home student version of Maya. I just downloaded Maya 2012, and I can not open a file in 2011 that was created in 2012?? I already opened the option box under OPEN, and selected ignore version. And it still doesn't work. I never had this problem last semester with 2011 files, working with 2010 Maya.
