View 8 RepliesI have modeled a human character with NURBS and I have to export it to a CAD system (Autodesk Inventor) using the IGES-format. So I can't use any fileformats based on polygons.
When exporting to IGES all colors of the model get lost, but the geometry is OK. I don't use any shaders, textures or complex materials. I would like to use simple object colors / vertex colors.
how to preserve the colors in IGES? Are there any export plugins available that support colors in IGES?
as a casual user of maya, i regularly import .iges files from other 3D modelling programs. in past versions (specifically maya 2011), the .iges import/export bundle was located under the plug-in manager; however, i cannot locate this in maya 2012.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have imported an IGES file in Inventor and I need to dimension and detaill the piece in a 2D drawing. The thread and hole wizard does not recognize the holes in the workpiece as holes. Also I sectional view does not display hatched areas of the workpiece even though I have the display option checked on. Is there any sort of feature recognition within Inventor that I can use to import all geometry so that inventor understands?
I am working with 2011 Pro and have about 1500 hours on the program so far.
I was considering redrawing the workpiece by creating a part within an assembly and overlaying the two pieces on top another and using refernece geometry but this might not be the most ideal method.
A lot of times our customers will send sheet metal parts for us to manufactur. unfortunately they do not have inventor and/or do not, or won't, send the flat layout. It is possible for me to convert these 3d files into Inventor sheet metal pieces and lay them out so i don't have to re-draw? What are the steps to do so?

My issue however is a Client has given me sone .stp's and Iges files to work with.They open fine as a .iam The issue is saving. I have the project folder setup, go to save.
I Get the "do you want to save changes to "XXXXXXXX.iam" and all its dependants.I select "yes to all".I get the "Yes" under the "Save" Column for all listed .ipt's...I hit OK.......Autodesk attempts to save.
...Then I get the dialogue box up with ! icons "The system cannot find the path specified" - The database in C:Users.........xxxx.ipt could not be saved
Softimage 2012 'send to' 3dsmax options are unavailable. I only see one option and that is 'update 3dsmax current scene'. If I click that it comes up with 'no ICE TREE to return, canceling operation' and nothing is exported. Would love to be able to use this feature.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince we upgraded to Inventor 2012 SP1 on W7 x64 most machines cannot open or save out step or iges files. The translator shows as 'On demand' and when i save copy as the 'options' button is inactive. We just get the standard error 'Problems encountered while saving the document'.
I see lots of old posts but nothing relating specifically to stp files.

I am using Inventor 2012, service pack 1 is installed as is hotfix DL17804781.
When opening certain Catia files, I get a Runtime Error. After I click ok, Inventor closes without the ability to send a crash report. I never had this issue using Inventor 2011, so I am not sure if it is new to 2012 or if I have something else going on.

New to the program but followed the instructions....IF I follow them to the letter, an *IGES file is created but it is only a 1 KB File of no use (an example *DXF File is 27 MB). I am trying this to see if Autocad is the solution I need to turn all my 3D files into IGES and STL. What basic blunder I am making?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed on two machines that the SAP of Soft 2012 results on some odd offsets when trying to pick a vertex in paint weights mode. Apply a simple envelope and then go to solo and select vertex to see the offset from where your mouse arrow is and the vertex it highlights. Worked fine until the SAP update.
This has occurred on two separate machines. How/where do we submit a bug report?
having a problem mirroring weights: when i try to apply or create a symmetry map i get this error message:

I have modeled this "low-poly" hand in 3d max. Here's how it looks with the "NURMS toggle" turned on. What I need is to somehow really turn it into NURBS, to be able to export it as IGES and then import into Inventor.

What i do today is, i make a new part and derive the .iam file and then export it to step but this is getting hard to do when you have many .iam files.
I have a weird texture issue in Softimage.When viewing my model in softimage, everything looks fine. However, when I export to FBX and re-import, half the model texture looks messed up; while the UVs look fine in the viewport:

When I look closely, I notice that the UVs have somehow been rotated in such a way that they look fine, but the edges are all rotated wrongly (the seams don't match up anymore and I can't island select areas)

Exporting to .obj doesn't seem to give this issue, but this is not a good solution as I may need to animate the robot in the very near future...
I cannot export my .dwg file in other formats!! i want to save in .sat format or .iges... when i do export it does not get saved nor give any indication that it has been exported..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been attempting to export geometry (which I believe is in the proper format) out of AutoCAD 2013 to the .iges (or .igs) solid body model format with no luck. I found the instructions in the AutoCAD documentation but when I try and execute, no luck. I do get the mandatory "1 object found that "fits the file type format requirements" dialogue so again I'm pretty sure that I'm doing things correctly.
Do I need a special plug-in? Here is the info on this type of export: Click Output tabSend panelExport.In the IGES Export Data dialog box, in the Files of type box, select IGES (*.igs, *.iges).In the File Name box, specify the name of the IGES file.Click Save.Select the objects to export and press ENTER to begin the export process.When export is finished, a notification bubble is displayed.
I don't even get the IGES Export Data dialog box to show up..
the maya 2014 Version I am running is not able to export and import IGES formats.
OBJ and FBX is working though.

After you you click on view normals to see them in the viewport, is there a way to export that information in some sort of text format that tells you the exact angle of each normal on a mesh? I need this information for the average normal information.

I would like to select everything first. Then launch refedit and select all the blocks.
After that I would like to convert them to mass elements. When saving to IGES I would need to select everything again.
I pieced the following script together, but it fails. I think it is bexause of the request to select objects manually. Could I add a delay which would enable me to select an object?
Also it looks like ACADA is not accepting the "all" command when pselect is called by a script.

I'm on a project where I need to export displacement maps / normal maps from zBrush 4.0 to Softimage 2012.
Im using the "Multi Map Exporter" to export the maps out of zBrush.
I know that I have to use the "change range node" between the image and the displacement port of the material and set the displace geometry approx. to "Fine" and play with the settings.
So my questions are:
1. Is there a way to calculate the exact ranges for the "change range node" for the map or is this gueswork?
2. In the geometry approximation what kind of settings are normaly appropriate in terms of mixing rendering speed and highlevel detail (look).
3. I exportet a normal map and pluged it with standart settings to the bump port of the material but the light seems to be inverted. How can I solve this?
I was given an iges file of a 3d structure that needs to be layed out in 2d. I was able to import the iges file into inventor and then output a dwg file. I then tried to import this dwg file into autocad to draw the 2d layout, but I am unable to copy it into autocad in the correct orientation. I have the correct orientation when i produce the dwg files from inventor. how can i import them into a single dwg file at the correct orientation?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an IGES file that, when opened in Inventor, comes in as a single part. In the model tree of the part are 126 Solid Bodies, each with a "Base" in it. The parts are all solids, or appear to be. Is there a way to open this file so Inventor makes each "Body" a separate .ipt file, and the IGES file a .iam file (as it can with a .stp file)? I can't attach the file, as it's 36+Mb....
