AutoCAD Inventor :: IGES File Into Separate Parts

Oct 12, 2011

I have an IGES file that, when opened in Inventor, comes in as a single part.  In the model tree of the part are 126 Solid Bodies, each with a "Base" in it. The parts are all solids, or appear to be.  Is there a way to open this file so Inventor makes each "Body" a separate .ipt file, and the IGES file a .iam file (as it can with a .stp file)?  I can't attach the file, as it's 36+Mb....

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Component As Separate Parts Into Assembly

Sep 21, 2012

I want to import a component consisting of about 50 different parts into an assembly that is about 300 different parts.

When I "place as component" into the assembly it imports into the assembly fine as a component.

When I make an exploded view I can split the component into seperate parts but when I make an .idw file the parts list just shows the component as one part number.

I would like to the .idw to show all of the parts that are in the component separately.

Is there some kind of expansion menu or do I have to re-make the component in the assembly file?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Separate Configuration Assemblies And Parts List On Same Drawing

Mar 7, 2012

I have an assembly that is identical to another assembly with the exception of 2 or 3 components. I want to create 2 different configurations of the assembly, e.g. 12345-009 for the original assy and 12345-019 for the similar assy that has a couple of different components and/or additional components. I can create the -009 assembly and then do a "Save As" for the -019 assy and do a "Component/Replace" and add (or delete) other components.

I want both of these assemblies to be on the same drawing with a base number of 12345. I know I can do this and create a separate parts list (BOM) for each configuration and put it on the drawing. Is there a way to "merge" the two PLs so that there is a quantity column for each configuration (-009 and -019)? For example, if the same gear is used in both assemblies, I want a quantity of 1 in each column. If a component is used in one but not the other, i want only the quantity to show up in the appropriate configuration column.

 I am using Inventor 2011.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported IGES File Not Displaying Properly In A 2D Drawing

Jul 10, 2012

I have imported an IGES file in Inventor and I need to dimension and detaill the piece in a 2D drawing. The thread and hole wizard does not recognize the holes in the workpiece as holes. Also I sectional view does not display hatched areas of the workpiece even though I have the display option checked on. Is there any sort of feature recognition within Inventor that I can use to import all geometry so that inventor understands?

I am working with 2011 Pro and have about 1500 hours on the program so far.

I was considering redrawing the workpiece by creating a part within an assembly and overlaying the two pieces on top another and using refernece geometry but this might not be the most ideal method.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Import Simple IGES File Into Vanilla?

May 16, 2012

I'm trying to import a simple IGES file into vanilla Autocad. I found the IGESIMPORT command and I can get the geometry to import. The issue I am having is that the geometry is importing as splines. Even if the geometry is a straight line, it is imported as a spline. Perfect arcs also import as splines and I can't find a way to convert them.

In Autocad Mechanical, I can use the IGESIN command and the geometry imports as regular lines and arcs. I'm working with a customer that doesn't have access to Autocad Mechanical and trying to find a solution for them with vanilla Autocad.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Export From 3D MAX To IGES

3ds Max Modeling :: Separate Out Different Parts For Textures

May 14, 2013

I was given a model and I've decided to try and texture it. The problem I have is that I'd like to try to procedurally texture it first in Max. The object is all one group and I need to somehow separate out different parts for different textures. I thought I would select polys and try grouping them but that doesn't seem to work. The option to group polys is greyed out. So I figure I have to convert selected polys to objects first? I'm not sure of the difference between elements and objects either and I read something about layering...but I'm not sure of terminology or the best place to start.

I did have the idea to uv unwrap, create masks to mask out different areas in Photoshop, and use that in the slate editor as a mask input node, but I really want to keep things within Max if I could.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Get IPT Parts To Right File Format

Aug 29, 2013

I'm trying to find a proper workflow how to get my .ipt parts to right file format that fits to our nesting program. Nesting program is a quite old and doesn't support files newer than Autocad 2000 .dwg/.dxf.

Our current workflow is quite slow and painful, because we have to clean drawings manually and it breaks the link between drawing and 3D model:

1. Design parts in Inventor (.ipt)
2. Create drawing file in Inventor (.idw/.dwg)
3. Save a copy from drawing file to Autocad .dwg
4. Open the copy of drawing in Autocad, remove splines etc. and save in older Autocad 2000 .dwg format
5. Import to Nesting program

How should I do this that it won't break the link between .dwg file and 3D model and those drawings won't have any splines?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Saving Parts To New File Location

Jun 29, 2012

I have only been using Inventor since late winter .  I have create a "master" folder with an assembly, drawing, and excel cutlist.  This folder also contains sub folders with the sub-assemblies and parts.

In my master assembly I created ILogic rules to change dimensions of the parts, to select different profiles and to select different sub assembly configurations (on/off).  It works fine as is.

Now, the idea was to copy the whole "master" folder and rename it to a job, launch the master assembly and configure it, then save it.  The issue is that, even though the master assembly is in a new folder, it still references the sub-assemblies and parts from the "master" folder.  How do I write a rule to "save as" all these sub-assemblies and parts to the new location?
