AutoCAD 2013 :: Fillet Edges Faster Than Rhino

Apr 23, 2013

I use Rhino to make pendant models but I find that Rhino's fillet function very slow and inefficient, so I'd like to know if Autodesk would be better at doing that.

3ds Max Modeling :: How To Accurately Fillet The Edges Of The Cube

May 5, 2011

Say I have an editable patch cube. Is there a way to accurately Fillet the edges of the cube while it's a patch?

I need to use patch modeling so I can convert to nurbs for IGES export. I really don't want to convert to an editable poly at any point in the process because it adds so many extra patches when I convert it back.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Fillet Dimension Input

Nov 6, 2013

I am used to entering my fillet radius dimensions in the command line with [F]illet, [R]adius, then entering a value.

However with 2014 an extra prompt has been added (or enabled) which would mean the path was [F]illet, [D]imension, [Radius], value. I was getting frustrated with this and tried fiddling with the settings ([F]illet, [S]ettings) but could not sort it, and now when I do go to enter a dimension the only option I am left with is to "Select fillet arc", meaning I have lost the ability to enter a value in the command line.

How do I regain the ability to enter a numerical value for a radius?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Fillet Edge Of Extruded Spline Shape

Aug 16, 2013

Autocad 2014.

I have the outline of a solid body guitar that I drew with spline, extruded and now trying put a 1/2" fillet radius along the edges, top and bottom.

Using the 3d fillet command produces an error, and extruding a profile along the edge path doesn't work either.

Attached is the spline outline, the red part is what needs the fillet, but the white part does not. However, they can't be extruded into a 3d solid unless their joined!

AutoCad :: Drawing Options From Rhino 3D

Oct 11, 2011

Only two weeks ago I started using Autocad. In the past I used to do a lot of modeling with Rhino 3D. Because of the similarities among the two products, the change was quite smooth. Still, there is a series of (basic) operations I miss a lot. I hope they exist in Autocad too (who knows, under a different name).

Among the features I miss the most, are the following:

-Draw line > Both sides
-Offset > Both sides
-Direction lock (tab key)

Revit :: Editing Imported Rhino Mass?

Feb 14, 2013

I have a relatively simple mass modeled in Rhino that I imported to a Revit Mass Family (via .sat file).  I then placed walls, roofs, structure on the face of this mass.  However I would like to be able adjust this mass, either in Rhino or Revit and the walls and structure adjust accordingly.  Now however, if I reload the mass into my Revit family, and then reload the family to my model, and then attempt to Update to Face, the error "Faces defining this Element cannot be reacquired." and my only option is to delete the offending wall/roof etc.

Is this just a limitation in Revit/Rhino, or am I totally doing it wrong?

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Have Multiline With Same Width Even At Filleted Edges

Apr 19, 2013

Multiline width issue at edges when fillet is applied,

I wanted to draw a multiline with curved edges and to keep the width (scale) of the multiline the same at these curved edges.

Scenario:

The multiline is drawn say with 20 meters width (screenshot is attached)

The multiline is exploded (screenshot is attached)

The edges are filleted, say with 20 meters radius (screenshot is attached)

Now, when the width of the multiline is measured at the curved edges, then it is found that the width is more than 20 meters! (screenshot is attached)

Then how to have a multiline with same width even at the filleted edges?

Now when I switch to "Realistic", I get this.  Anything that is behind this part is not visible.

I want to be able to see thru the part when in the reallistic visual style.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Workstation With Faster Renders

Apr 1, 2012

After shelling out a pretty penny for Inventor 2012, my boss set me up with a less-than-adequate off-the-shelf PC. I don't need faster visualizations as I'm not dealing with super complex assemblies, maybe 100-200 parts. I also don't care about ray-tracing while modeling. My problem is it took 24 hours to render a 65 second animation (about 1000 frames).

my boss is going to allow me to build a new, more inventor optimized workstation. I am using studio to do fairly complex animations. Fades, camera changes, constraint animations, all rendered with higher quality. I need a computer that will render quickly, and possibly higher quality if available.

I don't fully understand the whole "Direct X vs OpenGL" stuff. What should I spend my money on, knowing that rendering, not modeling is where I need improvement. I am thinking AMD system to save $$. Also, what to look for, fast bus, cache, etc. Just remember, I need faster RENDERING in STUDIO ANIMATIONS.

AutoCAD VB :: Manual Work Faster Than Automation - Selection Sets

Oct 13, 2011

I need to explode ~2000 PolyFace meshes in a drawing.Manually I can do the following:

> QSELECT - PolyFace Mesh - Select All

> Explode

I get a question if I want to "Disregard DrawingOrder for this operation due to the fact that it might take some time", by selecting "Yes" the process takes ~10 minutes (one explode). With an VBA automation I do the following:

> Create a selection set of all PolyFace meshes

> Explode each obj (2000 times) in the selection set with SendCommand (as .Explode does not work on polyface mesh objects)

I have waited hours for the same process (might be due to multiple explodes and/or screen updating taking place).I have always though automation is faster than manual work, but this proved me wrong. So to the questions:

1. How can I prevent screen updating in VBA (disregard draw order) during "long actions"

2. Is there a better way to explode a selection set than looping through each and every object calling explode (obj.handle)

For one drawing I can do it in 10 minutes, but I have 50 drawings with the need to explode this, having an automation run over night sounds great, but having it take 6x+ times longer for each drawing causes the night not to be long enough.

AutoCAD .NET :: Can Cache Files Manually / Faster Xref When File Cached

Jan 15, 2013

I have noticed that a file is xrefed much faster if the file has been opened at some point. (Wtih the file I tested with it was 45 sec vs 1,5 sec) This must mean that the file is cached and can very quickly opened later if it has been opened.

I have an application that xref other files as overlay xref's. This is very slow since the xrefed files haven't been opened. And it will be this slow every time i xref them since they are never opened. Is there a way I can cache the files manually or something like that?

VideoStudio :: X2 Playback Is Faster Than Original Stream?

Apr 30, 2011

I recorded a video from my TV and during recording everything looks normal.

However, when I play back the recording, everything is sped up. I can use VLC Media player to slow down the playback speed to normal, but I can't figure out why the recorded stream is faster than normal. Even when I burn the video to DVD, playback is faster than it should be.

Most streams recorded are played back just fine. Could it be that the source stream for this particular video is different than most and if so, how do I get VS to compensate for this?

Can I use VS to play it back at the correct speed and rerecord the recorded stream?
