AutoCAD VB :: Manual Work Faster Than Automation - Selection Sets
Oct 13, 2011I need to explode ~2000 PolyFace meshes in a drawing.Manually I can do the following:
> QSELECT - PolyFace Mesh - Select All
> Explode
I get a question if I want to "Disregard DrawingOrder for this operation due to the fact that it might take some time", by selecting "Yes" the process takes ~10 minutes (one explode).With an VBA automation I do the following:
> Create a selection set of all PolyFace meshes
> Explode each obj (2000 times) in the selection set with SendCommand (as .Explode does not work on polyface mesh objects)
I have waited hours for the same process (might be due to multiple explodes and/or screen updating taking place).I have always though automation is faster than manual work, but this proved me wrong.So to the questions:
1. How can I prevent screen updating in VBA (disregard draw order) during "long actions"
2. Is there a better way to explode a selection set than looping through each and every object calling explode (obj.handle)
For one drawing I can do it in 10 minutes, but I have 50 drawings with the need to explode this, having an automation run over night sounds great, but having it take 6x+ times longer for each drawing causes the night not to be long enough.

Feb 23, 2012Is there a way to remove the trails from a presentation one they have been added using the tweak components command ? These are shown on the animation but I can't seem to remove them without completely redoing the animation.

Jan 9, 2014Our company recently made a huge leap forward moving from Inventor 11 to Inventor 2014. We have found an issue with Tweak Trails that we cannot seem to get resolved.
The trails are displaying on "top" of the assembly geometry in both the IPN and the IDW files. For instance if I pull a shaft our of normal position, the trail will display completely over the holding piece, instead of "disappearing" as it goes into the hole. I have a picture below that shows what we are experiencing.
Notice that the trail shown on the shaft is visible on "top" of the shaft, as well as the mating pieces geometry. We were used to seeing the trail "under" the model geometry, and only visible from the end of the shaft into the hole. Is it possible to get this visualization style back?!?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Removing Trails From IPN Video File
May 21, 2012I have an Inventor presentation file (.ipn) which is displaying all the trails from the various components.
I have gone to animate and saved as a wmv video clip, the trails have been recorded with the video clip however I do not want them to be visible. Is there a way to animate / record a short wmv clip of my explosion with the trails removed ?
I know I can remove them in my IPN but I do not want to do this, I only want them to be invisible in the video clip.

May 17, 2012I have a drawing which is referencing a .ipn model, the .ipn model has all of it's trail line invisible however the drawing is showing them all visible. What I am trying to do is find a simple and quick way to turn off the visibility of ALL the trail lines in the drawing without having to pick out each one and ajust manually, The model .ipn is quite complicated and has many trails on it so I really need a way to turn off the visibility of these in the drawing.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Workstation With Faster Renders
Apr 1, 2012After shelling out a pretty penny for Inventor 2012, my boss set me up with a less-than-adequate off-the-shelf PC. I don't need faster visualizations as I'm not dealing with super complex assemblies, maybe 100-200 parts. I also don't care about ray-tracing while modeling. My problem is it took 24 hours to render a 65 second animation (about 1000 frames).
my boss is going to allow me to build a new, more inventor optimized workstation. I am using studio to do fairly complex animations. Fades, camera changes, constraint animations, all rendered with higher quality. I need a computer that will render quickly, and possibly higher quality if available.
I don't fully understand the whole "Direct X vs OpenGL" stuff. What should I spend my money on, knowing that rendering, not modeling is where I need improvement. I am thinking AMD system to save $$. Also, what to look for, fast bus, cache, etc. Just remember, I need faster RENDERING in STUDIO ANIMATIONS.

Paint.NET :: Fade Away From Selection For Pretty Icons
Aug 16, 2012I am trying to make pretty icons. These are non regular shapes.
Simple case: I have a red circle
I want to select a band say 6 pixels thick all the way around the circle
Now i need to fade from the inner edge of the selection to the outer edge so that completely transparent
I am left with a red circle that fades out perfectly and will sit over any background.
Firstly how do i make such a selection? effectively what i want to do is select my shape and then make a buffer of it?
Secondly how do i do the fade part?
If see the symbols that get installed by google earth (or any other nice non square/circle symbols) you will know what im trying to achieve.
I can do these kind of fades quite easily for whole images or with gradients for regular shapes but for something like the shape of a person or car it gets more difficult!

Mar 28, 2013I have a flexible sub-assembly in my top assembly. Sometiems I'm trying to demonstrate to others how a mechanism in the sub-assembly works using this flexibility feature. It works great, but when I move just one little part of a flexible assembly, Inventor displays the wire-mesh of the entire flexible assembly, because technically the entire assembly is selected, even though I'm only moving one part. It clutters up the screen very badly, detracting from what I'm trying to show.
Is there a way to prevent Inventor from displaying the selection lines? Either only when I'm moving a part in a flexible assembly (which would be great), or to just turn them off completely when I'm presenting like this? I know I can turn off pre-select, but that doesn't work, because once I start moving a part in the flexible assembly, the assembly is "selected" and the wire-mesh displays.

I've seen these quite often in still images, but also in videos.
They're "light" trails, like fire, but alot brighter, like night lights under a shakey mobile phone camera.

Jan 15, 2013I have noticed that a file is xrefed much faster if the file has been opened at some point. (Wtih the file I tested with it was 45 sec vs 1,5 sec) This must mean that the file is cached and can very quickly opened later if it has been opened.
I have an application that xref other files as overlay xref's. This is very slow since the xrefed files haven't been opened. And it will be this slow every time i xref them since they are never opened. Is there a way I can cache the files manually or something like that?

Oct 6, 2013Just grabbed Scott's book from amazon and can't wait to get a better understanding about some of the tools I've been using. In the meantime I just noticed that I have some white trails or fine lines in an image I'm working on that appear after I have been moving things around and deleting sections etc.
It's no problem on a little image like this to run around with the brush to tidy it up and then fill white/transparent, but I'm wondering if there is there a setting or an order of working that avoids making the lines in the first place?I have filled the background in black to show the trails...
