GIMP :: Get Rendering Of Image Faster
May 8, 2013
I am testing GIMP now, for professional use. As i believe there is much more out there to get GIMP exactly right than Photoshop.
I have to retouch images of 80mpix, and i wonder if there is any way to get the "rendering" of the images faster, as now it takes loads of time just to calculate ( line per line) the curve change.
And does 16bit exist on gimp ?

I am adding a couple of icons to a website. They are 32x32. I produced them in gimp with a simple filled rectangle and text added on top using Verdana bold and Verdana ordinary, 14 and 12 point respectively
The result looks rather poor and certainly very amateurish alongside the Facebook and YouTube icons in between. I have tried different fonts - no improvement. Tried Hinting - didn't make them any better. Tried Anti-aliasing and this just added a range of blurred colours to the white text!
Here is the link: the two icons are in the top left column - SOS UK and SOS SWE SOS Animals
I also attach one here.

I want to use a monochrome image to create a (1/3 size) image with subpixel precision. For starters, a pure black&White clipart seems the easiest to do this with. But after toying around some I couldn't find or think of a proper way to do this.
Any method to convert greyscale-antialiased images to 1/3 sized subpixel antialiased ones?
- Scaled the vertical resolution to 1/3
- Created 3 copies offset by 0, 1 and 2 pixels respectively for use in the next step
- Masked out 2 in every 3 colums of pixels leaving R, G and B striped versions.
- Scaled striped component images to 1/3 horizontal resolution
(no interpolation, aligned so that it uses exacly the desired 1 in 3 colored pixels)
- Got stuck with three seperate R, G and B colored component images...
- Posted this question
Also, attached is an intermediate result of my efforts: the combination of the three striped R, G and B versions. Simply scaling the attached image unfortunately does not yield the desired (and expected) result.

I mostly use Max for 3-D walkthroughs of architecture models I design in Revit, and in all of my renderings I have computer monitors and televisions. For effect I would like to make the monitors appear as though they are in use during the walk through, nothing fancy, just a standard home-screen would do.
Is it possible to insert .jpg or png screen-shot files in place on the monitor screens to make these objects look active, and how would I accomplish this task?

Whenever i add in a background image (clouds in this case), everything that is reflective becomes see through. Is there a setting that can make this go away? It does it with every, single background image that i've ever used. Recently, i've started to just not use them, but i really need to put a background with some of these for a Job Fair for our company. If you see below, the piping (i know it shouldn't be THAT reflective but that's what they want) becomes slightly see through as well as the hand rails and foot boards..
I've attached a second example as well...

I have a project created in X6. In several places throughout the project file, there is title text overlaid onto an image. The project file shows the titles as centrally placed, but when rendered the titles are displaced to one side, usually the right when facing the screen.
To illustrate, this is a screen shot image of the project file centered on the opening title. It shows the whole UI and the actions taken to render the project to a video file.

For a project, I've imported a jpeg file that I made on Photoshop. The colors look perfectly fine on the RAM previews and stuff but after I render it, just that specific jpg image comes washed out. It should be dark grey / almost black but after rendering into .mov that image becomes medium grey. It's noticeably more washed out and lighter. All the other colors in that image are also noticeably lighter as well.
I have set my working space to my monitors color profile and I have proofed the colors after saving on Photoshop.

improves performance more, more ram or faster processor?
I've got a Dell workstation 650, xeon processor 2.0GHZ.
2.5 GB Ram
XP Pro
CS
If I upgrade to 4GB Ram, will I see a big improvement? Or do I need to get a new computer with a faster processor plus 4GB or more of Ram.

When you render an shot, is there a way to get the frame number to be included in the rendered image? So that when they are put together into a movie a viewer can pause to see what frame it's on so that accurate critiques can be made.

This is a questions about workflow:
I have a rendering image in PNG format that I want to have dimension. These dimensions will be in all 3 planes.
I want them allinged to object sort of like what you get when you view dimensons in perspective (first arrow is bigger than second arrow text is getting smaller as it goes further away etc.).
Currently I import my image and draw each arrow, each line, slant the text and it looks so-so... not the greatest and it is A LOT OF WORK. Then i print the dimensions to and image and combine the rendering and image in GIMP.

I'm rendering an equipment shelter that sits atop a gravel pad. I've picked the "Gravel Crushed" material, and it looks OK, but I'd like to be able to scale the material so it isn't so "fine". I'd like it to be more coarse.
How to change the scale of the material?

I do a ton of rendering for my work. We have many curved surfaces within our product line. My problem is that, A lot of times my materials (jpeg's) warp and blur when added to a curve. My guess is it has something to do with the UCS orientation because if i rotate the curve to be parralell with the current UCS, the material shows up how it should, Until i change the UCS back to world.
Same Image material, Surface on left is curved and surface on right is flat. Warp.jpg

I´m quite frustrated after discovering that some of my images look quite poor displayed by the slideshow module. My situation ist as follows:
LR 5.2 running on Mac OS X 10.8.5, 1:1 previews are rendered, preview quality is set to high, and I´m using a sample image showing a dark cloudy sky with some fine gradients; my slideshow preset doesn´t use any borders as I read this often causes quality issues.
When I´m in the Develop module, there is no problem at all, even in fullscreen display mode on my 1920x1200 display the gradients are perfectly rendered.
In Library module, when displaying fullscreen, quality is okay, but I can see some slight difference compared to the Develop module - which I understand after reading that in Develop the output is based on the actual raw data, and in all the other modules on rendered previews.
Now, when in Slideshow module, the image quality is significantly lower than in Library and I see some quite obvious banding in the gradients. I don´t have problems with blocking artifacts but the banding/posterization is considerably worse compared to a JPEG export with a quality setting of, for example, 75.
I can´t imagine LR´s slideshow tool would be working with a lower color depth than the 8 bit as in standard JPEGs, right? Did I miss any of LR´s parameters that influence the image quality of Lightroom slideshows or of the previews used therefore? Otherwise do you have some other explanations or hints for me in order to get this fixed? We do everything to capture our images in the best possible quality so we should also be able to present them properly after all...

I am editing in Premiere Pro using AVCHD footage. It takes a few seconds for my MacBook Pro to catchup and think in order to play it smoothly. It is HD footage and up to 60 GB of footage in the bin. Rendering takes 4xs longer than real time it seems to be. I am not savy with editing.

Slow rendering image previews in import dialogue?
My LR 5 is as slow as a snail generating those previews.
Importing my RAWs form the EOS 6D (saved on a 95MB/s 32 BG SanDisk Extreme Pro) it renders only the 12 or 24 displayed previews and leaves out the rest (the next only when I'm scrolling down). For 12 images LR5 needs 8-10 seconds. LR4.4 does the same process for all 150 RAWs in 1-2 seconds.
It doesn't matter if I want to import to my workstation (Dell Precision T1650, 8core Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, 16GB RAM, 64bit) via USB 3.0 (Reader & Port) or to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6400). So it must be LR, not my hardware.
Are there known issues with the Canon-RAW format? I just updated EOS firmware to 1.1.3, but the renderspeed stays the same. For 1 image 3-4 seconds single...

I recorded a video from my TV and during recording everything looks normal.
However, when I play back the recording, everything is sped up. I can use VLC Media player to slow down the playback speed to normal, but I can't figure out why the recorded stream is faster than normal. Even when I burn the video to DVD, playback is faster than it should be.
Most streams recorded are played back just fine. Could it be that the source stream for this particular video is different than most and if so, how do I get VS to compensate for this?
Can I use VS to play it back at the correct speed and rerecord the recorded stream?

After shelling out a pretty penny for Inventor 2012, my boss set me up with a less-than-adequate off-the-shelf PC. I don't need faster visualizations as I'm not dealing with super complex assemblies, maybe 100-200 parts. I also don't care about ray-tracing while modeling. My problem is it took 24 hours to render a 65 second animation (about 1000 frames).
my boss is going to allow me to build a new, more inventor optimized workstation. I am using studio to do fairly complex animations. Fades, camera changes, constraint animations, all rendered with higher quality. I need a computer that will render quickly, and possibly higher quality if available.
I don't fully understand the whole "Direct X vs OpenGL" stuff. What should I spend my money on, knowing that rendering, not modeling is where I need improvement. I am thinking AMD system to save $$. Also, what to look for, fast bus, cache, etc. Just remember, I need faster RENDERING in STUDIO ANIMATIONS.

I'm using PS CS 3 Extended and whenever I try to open multiple files/images (either by dragging/dropping, using the bridge or just using the Open dialog) it really takes a long time, because photoshop seems to want to "check" every image behind the one it just imported. Let's say I'm importing 40 pictures for editing into Photoshop and I'm upto image 30; then it checks every image behind that (29, 28, 27, 26 etc.), slowing the process down conciderably.
In previous versions of Photoshop, I used to be able to import multiple files and they would load up relatively quick, and it wouldn't do this "checking" of files behind the last file imported.
Is there any way to turn this "checking" off so the import process will be faster?

I currently have my main catalog 'gwcat-2-2.lrcat' in what I think is the default directory of ":..D:UsersGeorgePicturesLightroom". I would like to move it to a faster drive. Should I move JUST the lrcat file, or is moving the gwcat-2-2 Previews.lrdata required?
There is a LOT of stuff in lrdata! and would take a long time to move. I've always been a bit confused by the difference between "Previews.lrdatafa" and the cache directory (I already have the cache directory on SSD). --If you go by just the definition of terms, it seems like a distinction without a difference.
