Paint.NET :: How To Remove Yellow Paper Color From Old Line Drawing Scans
Aug 4, 2012
I use the vanilla app and do vanilla things. Lately I have been interested in using some turn of the century public domain line illustrations, but often they are found with yellow backgrounds from the old paper.
I can knock the blotchy yellow out with levels and such, but I think there is probably a way to remove it instead of washing it out. I see that there are a few plug ins out there that might do the job, but I don't know if they are updated to work with the newest program on a 64 bit Win 7 machine.
Bonus question: Since some of the drawings are not the best quality, so vectorizing them has potential. I have played around with the trace bitmap tool on Inkscape and it is cool, but is it the best way? Is there a way to clean up a raster image without manually doing cleanup, or a plug in that lets it scale up?

Is there any way to remove the blue lines from scanned drawings that were drawn on notebook paper? I can't seem to figure this one out at all.

I intend to make a signature to be inserted in digital documents. I signed in a paper and scanned that. The resulting image (attached) has a "paper color/texture" background I would like to remove, maintaining the blue ink from pen and black ink from computer character.

I have a basic problem but I can't seem to be able to get around it. I added an image to a sketch successfully but it cam with a yellow line around it (see attached) and I can't remove it. In the sketch properties I was able to change it's color to black to make less visible but it's still there.
Any clue as to how I can make it disappear ?

I'm currently working on a project that's about a book printed in 1631. This book contains some illustrations that are on a spread. Because the book is old and rather special, the scans of the spreads show the distinct spine. Is there a simple way in Photoshop to mask this issue?

I can usually don't have a problem blending images and making them look like part of the paper, but I'm stuck on this one. I have a drawing that I want to make look like it was sketched on the "paper" I made in photoshop. I have an image something like this....
[URL]
My image has a colored background and heavy black lines. I got the background out OK, but now the black part is too heavy and it doesn't look natural, but if I lower the opacity, then it looks too faded. What do I do??? The paper I made is equivlant to a brown paper bag.

Here's the skinny..... I obviously have chosen to have photoshop control the color management. The closest I have come is to use the printing profile: Japan Color 2002 Newspaper without black point compensation (I think I used Relative Compensation). The only way I can get the yellow to show on the brown is to actually PRINT a brown paper background ON TOP of the brown colored paper.
Obviously, this is causing the brown paper to look quite dark. The yellow is perfect and I've now lost every other color (Navy & 3 shades of Gray). They're all dull against the multi-layered brown. I have tried manipulating the yellow to be more green or more orange and sure enough, they turn out looking green or orange. Should I switch to CMYK instead of RGB? If orange is a variation of brown, why does orange show up on brown so much easier than yellow?
Is there a way to manipulate the newspaper profiles to adjust for browner paper rather than grayer paper?

how to fix the color on this photo. I have several more like it. They are scanned from photos that were developed from damaged film. On the photos where the entire image is yellowed I have no problem correcting the color, but I'm not quite sure how to make a selection on photos like these and then match the color to the other half..I am using cs5.

YellowMatte.JPG
I recently updated to Corel Draw service pack one (X5 suite). After this update the background color has changed into a light yellow when I try to export to jpeg format (see attached screen shot). In the matte color menu in the export window I have the option of changing this color. All colors are there except White! (or transparent). This is driving me nuts. I would just like to be able to export to jpeg with a White background. I have changed no settings, only installed service pack 1.
How to get rid of the yellow background/matte? I am considering uninstalling Corel Draw, then reinstalling without installing the service pack.

I have a brother printer that no longer prints the magenta ink. I have tried and tried to fix it, and cannot figure it out. So, Since i would like to continue using the printer, and still need to print in color, I was hoping maybe there would be a way to remove the red from a picture before i color it.
Now, i understand it is more complicated than just finding all the red in a photo and simply removing it or changing the color. Any color that the printer needs Magenta ink to print is going to come out funny, unless I can find a way to change any color that would require the magenta ink.

I have rather large blueprint that is black and white. Their is some noise around some of the black lines / text / etc on the drawing that I want to get rid of as well as get rid of the white back round all together (which I am hoping will reduce the file size a bit).
How to best remove the white backround / remove the noise from this large drawing?

I have 1 picture with a blue background and a metal steel basin. I would like to remove the background and change the color to white.
Background is a material so it's not all perfectly the same color, very slight different shades of blue in the picture. The tutorials say outline it but this is a circular metal object. I tried using the circle tool but I can't get it exact and there seems to be no way to select a circle.

I remember seeing a post about a plugin which allows you to remove the background from an image...
Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the plugin....
Or if you can point me to a Tutorial that deals specifically with removing a background colour from a complicated image i.e. an image with a complicated outline...

I have an image that has a white background. I want to change this background to be transparent.
I can of course select everything around the image and delete it, but the pixels near the edge are a combination of a colour and the background colour. I want to be able to change these to the colour semi transparent (ie remove the background colour portion of the pixel). Is there some easy way to do this?

I work on old radios, and jukeboxes. Remember Vacuum Tubes (Valves)? The schematics when I can get them are not very clear. I try and clean up areas of the schematic I am working on by redrawing the lines, and redoing the text. I try and do the lines in the colors of the wires. For example, If I wanted to draw a wire that was blue with a red stripe, it would look something like the attached image. It would have black outline, and the inside filled with 1 or 2 color (the diagonal strips would be nice, but I could live with straight lines).
If I wanted to draw a white line, it would have black outline, and the inside would be a solid color. Is there a way to accomplish this for the two types of lines that I need to draw?If not, looking for some plugin source code that I could adapt?

New to GIMP and would like to add some color to a line drawing. I have a line drawing that I scanned into the computer as a JPG. I've imported that JPG into GIMP.
the line drawing has a dozen or so areas created by the intersecting lines. I would like to fill the various areas with different colors. How can I do that?
If I pour a color paint on the picture without doing anything, the entire page changes to the color poured. Not what I want to do. I want area A to be red, area B to be blue, and area C to be yellow.

When I draw a line, is there a way to say, "Start at point (864,0), go exactly 270° down (actually, I can hold down the shift key for that, but I digress...) and end at the other side of the canvas at point (864, 3456)?
A script would probably work well, but I've never dipped into that.

I had Corel Photo Paint v.9, have used it for years in addition to DRAW, but recently my computer died and I had to replace it. I installed it on the new machine, which is running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, but the line tool suddenly started acting nuts. I would move the cursor to where I wanted to start the line and start the line with a mouse click. The line would then dart half-way down the screen and would be nowhere near the cursor's cross hairs making it difficult to work on images.
So, I figured it was a compatibility issue so I bought Corel Technical Suite X6 and have installed it. The line tool does exactly the same thing. The position of the line is nowhere near the crosshairs of the cursor. Is this a new "feature" or is this a bug? If the former, how can I get it to work like I am accustomed to working (I have used DRAW and Photopaint since the mid 1990's, using version 5.0). If the latter, how can I fix it?

I'm trying to use it instead of my photoshop «not very legal» version.
There is a feature I really like in Photoshop and GIMP which is the ability to draw a line using pen/brush/eraser/any tool using the SHIFT modifier key. This really miss me in Paint.NET. You click somewhere, you move the cursor elsewhere, holding SHIFT you click again, and (using the tool you currently have selected) a perfect line is drawn between the two points.

How can I make an imported scan of a line drawing "transparent" and add color fills to various sections, using the freehand tool ? I have done this many times with an older version of CorelDraw, but in CorelDraw- x5 the
imported scan includes a white background (even when I select NO FILL), so that my freehand tool selections are either on top of, or hidden behind the white background.
