I scanned an image (settings: B/W adaptive, 600 dpi ) and came up with a .tiff file of 1474 kb.
When opened with Photoshop CS3, and saved, the file size jumps to 38 mb.
How can I edit the file and keep the file size from changing?

I am snapping from Nikon Coolpix L1 camera into 6.2 MPixel mode. When It comes to photoshop, I can see that the normal document size is, Width : 9.387 in and Height : 7.04 in (I am giving this reference from menu Image->Image Size).
Now, I am reducing this document into a size of W=5.347" x H=4.01" size for printing. Taking four nos. of similar documents and trying to paste all four documents into a single sheet of size 12"x8". This is because that the printing cost of a 12"x8" paper will be least, and that is why I am trying to compose four 5.3"x4" photographs into a single 12"x8" paper.
But the problem is that, when I am trying to paste (using copy-paste or drag-n-drop) any of the source pictures into destination sheet, the picture in the destination sheet is expanding and filling all the space of 12"x8".
What is the problem?
When I save a file as a v2000 file from v 2007, the file scans to 31% then the computer chokes. This acts exactly the same in another computer. I need to do this sometimes because the person that I am sending the file to has v 2000 only.

While going to SJSU it took me a longer time to shoot single shots of my 136 page animation project than it took me to draw it out frame by frame... so I told my teacher David Chai one day-" why not build a cube with an x-ray beam and shoot my whole project all at one time?
" It has been a long time since Art23 and I still have the same dream of doing a full length animation- if it were to ever happen I would need a software with the capability of running a composite that would hold multiple frames scanned(30 perhaps) through a front and side x-ray or UV ray that can harness the depth of each individual frame being scanned at the same time. If I had software that could hold data from each frame... I believe I can work out my schools animation team ad well as move towards making numerous 5 page "final D" animation in a way make a full length film with my old crew Studio.
is there a function in photoshop cs3 that will reduce the file size of a photo without affecting the physical size of it, i know macromedia fireworks can but thats no help to me unfortunately...

When scanning film frames, I like the idea of setting the scan area marquee, at the scanning stage, so that it scans slightly beyond the film frame edges, so that I can carefully crop to the edge of the film frame later, in Photoshop CS6, rather than setting it, at the scanning stage, and then later, when examining the film frame in CS6, maybe discovering that I have not scanned to the edge of the film frame quite enough, as I can easily zoom right into the image when in CS6, to carefully examine where the film frame edges are.
I may be reducing the resolution of the image. For example, say I scan a film frame in at 3600 ppi, and later crop the image slightly in CS6 in order to precisely trim off any slight amount of black around the film frame edges. By cropping the film frame like this in CS6, am I reducing the image resolution of the film frame to lower than 3600ppi? As I best understand it, I do not think post-cropping like this results in any reduction in image resolution.
I am receiving a bunch of raw scans and the first thing I need to to with it is cropping them into individual images. We are talking hundreds of photos, with 6+ images on each raw scan. Doing it manually takes time and might not be 100% accurate. One should think some kind of software was made able to do this automatically (PS plugins?)
I suspect I *might* have to resort to something other than Adobe * - but in desperation I am trying this forum anyway..! It would be GREAT to be able to just do this repetetive work in one batch.
I'm currently working on a project that's about a book printed in 1631. This book contains some illustrations that are on a spread. Because the book is old and rather special, the scans of the spreads show the distinct spine. Is there a simple way in Photoshop to mask this issue?

I have a folder that is easier to access, simply D:Scans, and I have to enter this manually, as well as removing the default to set up a folder with "today's date" every time I do a scan. I would like to modify these default settings. Surely those locations must be held in an installed file somewhere, and so if I can just edit that file I'd be very happy.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCan someone please explain to me about file sizes and image dimensions. I have to put together a collage which is 165mm high by 258mm wide. If I click file new and choose default resolution (72) then the file size is ok, if I type in 300 dpi the image becomes huge.
If i chosse 300 dpi then the images I was going to use seem tiny on such a vast workspace - Im confused why does the canvas become so large when changing resolution?
How do I make a layout expand with the more content that is added?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe problem I'm having is when I use either the square selection tool or when I Control+Click on a layer and expand the selection (square or rectangle) the corners get cut at a 45 degree. I'm using PS7 and it is also doing it on CS2 also. A Graphic Artist friend of mine tried it on his computer (CS2) and it does the same thing. I thought for sure I've done this before without the cut corners.
View 4 Replies View Related When I save a file to jpeg the image size in photoshop remains the same as it was as a tiff file BUT according to the information that comes up in windows properties the file is much smaller (300k vs 2.9mg).  Can you advise me which is the correct file size?  If the correct size is the one showing in windows (300K) does mean that the file compressed in JPG and lost a lot of information?
 and if this is the case how can I prevent that from happening and still save the file as a JPG?  [ I would like the image to remain the size photoshop shows it to be] . Thank you very much.
I am doing a project for school that requires me to "scan" some old books by shooting the pages with a DSLR-type camera. The setup is kind of like a poor-man's planetary scanner, but unlike a real PS, it doesn't have fancy proprietary software to "flatten out" the curves in the pages (near the binding and in the middle) that distort the text. Since part of my project involves processing the images with OCR into ebooks, I need the lines to be as straight as possible for accuracy's sake. I figure photoshop has GOT to be able to handle distortion correction like this, but I am clueless on how to do it. So far, I have tried to get close by cropping the pictures with a perspective correction, but the pages are still unreadable near the binding and in the middle.

My goal is to produce easier to follow drawings for audiences who are not used to seeing MRI scans and at the same time avoid any copyright violations by using somebody else's images.
As you can see it does a fair job of outlining the brain but misses a lot of gray details in the center of the image.
How to trace these details? I used to be able to do this by hand, so I think that it is probably possible.

When I plot PNG or JPG file, its paper size is needed to edit according to drawing size.

My picture’s original size was 108.2 MB in tiff. After I developed my photo in Lightroom and exported the new image, the file decrease to 50MB in tiff. Why did Lightroom decrease the file size to more than half the original size? Is there a way to increase the exportation file size to that I may develop a large size print?

I want to make a a big circle and a smaller circle in the same point of location just like using offset path cmd in adobe illutrator using select modify contract or expand cmd.I selected a circular marquee with the size of 6cm x 6cm and filled it w/a color.while selection is active i contracted it w/ the amount of 4pix and filled it with another dif. color the result is smooth edges, but when i contracted it again by a bigger amount like 24pix it looks distorted.I think there is a technique in doing it. Can you help me guys?Just remember i want to know if contraction or expansion in ps has the same principle with the offset path cmd in ai. because the offset path cmd in ai produces smooth edges even if u enlarge it in any possible amt.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out the best way to clean some scans of old books in order to be able to reprint them. The final result I'm aiming at is B/W or grayscale images.
The most problematic is the ink passing through the paper that makes it harder to read.
The most efficient way I had found until now is to use the separate+ plugin, keep only the C and/or K layers and merge them as the brown spot have much less blue than the actual ink. But in this sample, the colors are too close.
In theory, something that I think is possible but how to differentiate dark places with sharp edges (actual writing) from the ones with soft edges (ink passing through) that would be blanked.

Background info:
We got several image files every 2 weeks which should be edited and mainly reduced in size for web purpose. This work needs 1 work day for one man/woman to do, because he/she has to open the file save for web and then set the quality to a value were the file is nearly about 150-200 KB in size.
The images are different, some have few colors, some have a lot of colors and there are also different in resolution. But they should not be reduced in resolution, only in quality. All other specs of the image should be kept
Is there any possible script, plug-in or similar which can do the same (Saving with a specific max. file size) in some automatic and faster way?
How can in retain my original jpg file sizes when processing multiple file in 11 using expert mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use a NextEngine 3d laser scanner to create organic models. The process is relatively simple assuming you just buy the software that NextEngine supplies (for $995). For this price you get an "auto surfacing" feature and export to STEP or IGES. For me it is hard to rationalize spending that money just for those features, although, auto surfacing makes the process very simple to get a solid into Inventor.
Since I already have Inventor 11 and AutoCad Mechanical 2011, I am hoping there is a way to get the scanned data into Inventor as a solid to edit parts etc, without spending the $995. If I do spend the money, I would like more functionality from the software. I am also looking into Rhino 4 as a possible solution with more functionality for a similar price. I have all the open source programs like meshlab, and blender and they work somewhat.
The Nextengine creates a Point Cloud which can be exported as an .obj or an .STL (which comes in handy for 3d Printing). I use a 3rd party program to import .stl files into inventor. They are imported as a mesh and the "Stitch" command does not work unless you have surfaces (as far as i know). How can I create a surface from a mesh with my existing software?
GOAL: create a surface from mesh data (obj or stl), convert to solid, and edit in Inventor.
