Lightroom :: How To Swap Primary And Secondary Displays
Dec 7, 2013
I'm using Lightroom 4 on a shiny new 27" iMac and have a very old Dell 24" display, not LED backlit, as a secondary display. Both have been calibrated with a Spyder 3. I would like to preview photos on my iMac display by default and use all edit controls on the old Dell display but setting this up is a pain in the butt and it won't return to this configuration after I quit LR and open it again.
Even when I right-click on the dock in OS X Mavericks and select "Options/Desktop on Display 2" I only get the splash page on Display 2.
Is there any way to make LR open by default on the system's secondary display (Dell 24") and use the iMac itself as LR's secondary display?
secondary monitor displays with colorshift in LR4.1rc2. this is on windows 7/64. Both my monitors i have are calibrated with spyder3, one is hardwarecalibrated eizo CG243, the other a HP2475 calibrated with spyder4 elite software. Colorshift shows same characteristics when i switch LR app window with secondary window. IT looks as if sRGB profile is applied to the secondary preview, because of the strong/overly saturated colors.
It seems to me a softwarebug, which makes secondary display inusable.
How can I set the primary External Editor in LR4? I recently upgraded to CS5.5, then uninstalled CS5 and now Lightroom thinks it should use CS4 which is not longer installed. I've unstalled and reinstalled LR4 and nothing changed. I deleted the preferences file and nothing changed.
Why isn't there an easy way to change this setting?
How do I change the primary external editor to Elements 11? It was an old version of PS which I removed and had hoped that since it was no longer available, LR would look for a new one as primary. I already have my Topaz products for the additional external editor. Is it possible to have more than one? If the default choice of LR is unavailable, how do i get LR to look for new one?
It's typically very stable, but when I enable the Secondary Display, it starts crashing every 10 - 15 mintues.
Win7x64 12GB RAM ATI Catalyst 12.4 (was the same under 12.1) Internal 256GB SSD w/ OS and catalogs External 5.5TB eSata w/ RAW files Canon 5d2 & 5d3 files 2x Dell U3011 displays
I've googled and searched the forums. Lots comes up about older versions, but I'm not finding anything about the current release version. Windows offers to check for a solution online and close the application.

Has Lightroom 4 addressed the problem of choosing which monitor to show your secondary display? I know this was a requested feature on LR3. How do you set it?
I'm despriately trying to figure out a way to display the lightroom secondary display on my monitor to the right of my main display. I'm working in Windows 7 RC which seems to have the same monitor properties as Vista. No matter what I do Lightroom will always choose the display to my left as secondary, I've even tried physically switching my cables for the monitors and it still figures out which display is on the left and displays it there. Is there any way to pick which display is secondary?
Using the Mac version of LR5 beta, I tried to create a Lightroom catalog on a secondary drive (the same drive my LR4 catalogs are on), and I got the following error:
Lightroom cannot create a catalog named “pics-5” on volume “/Volumes/Lightroom/pics-5” because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location. Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes.
The drive is not a network volume, removable storage (it's a SATA drive on a Mac Pro), or read-only.
I'm having trouble with the secondary display (window, in my case; only one monitor). When I first open the secondary display, either with a keyboard shortcut or by clicking, all is fabulous. The display modes (Grid, Loupe, Compare, Survey) are visible & clickable, as is thumbnail slider, file path. If I click or keyboard command to Loupe view, Normal, Live & Locked modes are available. However, if I close the window and then want to open it up later in my workflow, all of the aforementioned functions disappear. I'm able to bring up the Filter view, and can technically still work off the menu bar (and keyboard shortcuts, if remembered). But only if I restart the program do the full set of functions become visible again. The arrows at top & bottom don't collapse/expand to show anything more than a black border where the display & mode options once were.
I didn't know what to expect but when performance went from bad to worse and each click on LR resulted in (not responding), I became very concerned. I did research and couldn't find anything so I looked at my swap file and tweaked it. I added swap files to all of my drives, physical and virtual. For now that seems to be working.
I am in the process of organizing my Literoom images and filter displays MULTIPLE IDENTICAL IMAGES, under METADATA STATUS changed. .
Computer info - Literoom 4.3, windows 7, some 55,000 images on the hardrive, one catalog used.
When I go to folders, and click on J drive which holds these images, they all come up if filter is off of course. Now using metadata I search on a date, a camera, lense, etc. But I just want to find all of my images on a particular day. I can find those with no problem. My problem is that I may have 2 or more identical images display in grid and view as well as film strip. Looking up metadate status I find that these images are CHANGED. I understand that status, but there is no way that these multiple images would result from my work.
I searched for multiple files located in multiple folders - What is creating those multiple files, they are identical as to date, how they look, etc?
If I go to CATALOG, and work with the all the images there, found at the top of course, I get the same functionality, BUT THE MULTIPLE IMAGES ARE ABSENT.
It makes it difficult to keyword on images on a certain date, because of the multiple files.
Filters are NOT a powerful tool for organizing collections and keywords when this problem exists. My problem is not using filters, but understanding why multiple images.
I have been consolidating all of my images into a catalog using Lightroom 4.3 64-Bit and I have run into an issue where around 300 images (of over 15k) have an issue with CR2 format. Lightroom is using Camera Raw 7.1.
I have tried opening the "trouble" images in PS CS6 and I have the same problem. All CR2 images came from the same camera, Canon 5D. It seems odd that most would work, but some wouldn't. All worked with previous LR...I think it was LR 2.
All of a sudden Lightroom stopped displaying all of the installed photos. The catalog folders display the correct number of photos, but every folder in the catalog displays the same messags. No Photos in Selected Folder. The photos are all in the correct folders on the hard drives but they don't even show up as not found just non-existent. When I hover over a folder an image appears in the Navigator, but nothing show in the Grid or Loupe view.
I tried a Sync, and the import dialog came up, saying there were no photos to import. If I go to Import and navigate to photos that have not been imported they appear, but if I go to a folder that contains previously imported photos Lightroom says No Photos Found. The photos themselves are not damaged and will open in Photoshop with no problem. The only change made recently is an upgrade to Maverick on my MacBook Pro Retina laptop.
Since some days, when exporting pictures, an internal error warning occurs opun the screen and says: Win 32 API error2 (System cannot find the Data) when calling ShellExecuteExW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute
"You curently have Photoshop'primary Scratch and Window's primary paging file on the same volume, wich can result in reduced performance. It is recomended that you set Adobe Photoshop's primary Scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferably on a different psysical drive."
Create a new document in X5. Choose CMYK as the "Primary Color Mode" in the "Create a new document" dialog box.
Draw a rectangle. The Eyedropper Tool tells me it is RGB 0, 0, 0. Shouldn't it be CMYK 0, 0, 0,100? Is there a simple way to fix this to default to CMYK?
We are having an issue with Dimensioning and the Primary Units not maintaining the correct value. We use metric so the multiplier of 25.4 or .039370079 for Dim Scale Linear would be used in our Dimension Styles depending on if we are drawing in model space or annotating in paper space. We have created specific Dim Styles for Model and Paper space. Every so often some of us will us the Dim Style for paper space and a metric unit would be shown. When we go into the properties of that dimension and change the Dim Scale Linear to 1 it shows as a different dimension then it actually is. After looking at the correct dimenion, we noticed the Dim Scale Linear shows .9449 but gives the correct dimension.
Note: We are drawing in Metric a multiplier of 25.4, our dimensions are done in english. A scale factor of .039370079 is used to accomplish this.
There is a simple fix with Match Properties but it still doesn't answer why our dimension show up wrong with a different multiplier for Dim Scale Linear.
how to use the secondary color in GIMP. By default, primary is black and secondary is white. I know in MS Paint the secondary color is used by right clicking, but this is not the case with GIMP.
I have opened Photoshop (7.0) I get a message on the lines of: -
You currently have Photoshop's Primary Scratch & Windows paging file on the same volume which can result in reduced performance.
It recommends that I should set the primary scratch volume to a different Physical Drive. I have looked at my preferences which I havent changed (not intentionally anyway) and the First Choice is set as Startup and the others have nothing set. I only have my C drive and am unsure how to Zone another area for a second choice. Is it as simple as setting a folder somewhere on the drive. (I have 14Gb free).
I have a massive problem with my autocad map 3d's linetype scale..Problem is caused from creating an primary viewport "construction plan", then creating a second viewport "detail plan" and zooming in on the detail plan viewport.
My line type in the detail plan turns into ------ LV ----- as apart from the normal size of -----LV-----.I've tried everything form psltscale, lt scale, msltscale (i think), audit, recover, basically everything i could.
NOTE: This problem is only on my pc, and none of the other pc's in the office do this. I use classic autocad and have customised my buttons etc.
I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.
Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft. The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:
Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview. The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:
Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.
This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import). Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.
This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.
I've buy a new computer with and SSD Disk for SO (Winwos 7 Ultimate) and a Secondary Disk. How is the best choise to install the CS4 Suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc)? Installing on primary disk (SSD) or on secondary disk?
I want to use two dimensions, like main one and secondary second one, one above another in exact distance. i did not find it in the dimension style manager.
Is there any way to correct spot exposure problems [ie. clipping] like you can correct secondary color with Three-Way Color Corrector?
I have a clip where a white box that reflects too much--it moves, so I need the exposure correction to move as well--like color corrections move with the Secondary Color Correction, but with exposure instead.
I just need to tone-it done some, if possible.
I tried using the Three-Way, but there isn't enough color to grab.
