In the Lightroom 3 Print module I choose to print to a 300 ppi JPG file:
The strange thing is that in OSX's "Preview" the saved file shows up as being 72 ppi
However, in Photoshop the same file shows up as 300 ppi:
At this stage I would blame "Preview", but if I save the image in Photoshop, then open it in Preview it shows up as 300 ppi:
I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.
Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft. The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:
Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview. The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:
Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.
This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import). Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.
This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.
I have an image that is 15000 x 10000 pixels, 529cm x 374cm. It has been created at 72 pixels/inch.I want to print it out at 100cm x 70cm at 300pixels/ inch.can the larger 72ppi document be 'shrunk' to accomodate for the 300ppi print requirement?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tweaked an image in Develop and printed some 5x7s until I got it right and then went to 13x19 (first time ever using that size with my R3000). The print preview and the print were way too red. I went back to a 5x7 and it was way red as well in print preview, so I didn't print. I replaced a light magenta cart that I think ran out during the 13x19 print, and then some others that were low, and did a nozzle check and that was okay. I have spent hours looking around all of the settings (sRGB) and can find nothing that would explain what changed between my last good 5x7 print and the red 13x19. I went back to earlier versions and had the same problem. Monitor is due for recalibration, but that probably has nothing to do with it since it changed so suddenly.

Last week I updated my mac to Lion and encountered a problem with lightroom 3. It wont let me preview the print in print mode now! before it did! now when i try and print, it just prints a white blank print?!
Luckily i used my macbook pro, the same problem happened in the lightroom too but it printed the image rather than blank printing
Any reason why i cant see the print preview any more?
I use print preview in Lightroom 4. I also print a lot of landscapes. When I hit print and go to print preview, all my images are turned on end which makes review difficult. Is there a way to view them as they should be, landscape. In Lightroom, everything is set to landscape and in the printer module, it is all set to landscape. Just in print preview, they are turned on end.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't remember when I first saw the recently-opened-document-list in which you can preview the documents; you hover your mouse above one of the documents listed there, a preview of the document pops up, and if you wait a second longer, underneath the preview some dates are displayed (modified date, Version info etc.). For as long I CAN remember, these dates have always been set to 1-1-0001 0:00:00, see picture below. I hoped that the release of Inventor 2011 solved this issue, but after installing Inventor 2012 this year, this issue has still not been solved. Is this an Inventor issue, or is it Microsofts responsibility?

So I am working on this document and it has silver background. I go to print preview (Photoshop cs3 and cs4 on Vista) and I get color looking more like bronze looking but when I do print, it comes out just like it should (in working mode which is Monitor RGB with Proof colors checked).
This setting is the only one I've used to make sure image/psd looks exactly like what it should when printing. I tried the default Working CMYK with and without Proof colors but it's still showing me the bronze look instead of silver. I've looked on the net and no exact easy fix for this was found. I really really appreciate any help.
Another simple question is regarding size. I'm working on a document size of 17.5 x 8.7 inches and the actual Banners will be printed at size 175 x 87 inches (5 banners each at 35inch wide but combined into a big one). So essentially, I'm working at 10% the size of what the final print will be and my file size is 760mgs. You can only imagine how big the file would be if I work on the actual size.
I received an Autocad file from another person, opened it with Autocad 2011 LT, and it looks fine. But when I go to print preview all the lines are very thick, making the detail of the drawing difficult to see. I've tried manually changing the lineweights but it has no effect on some of the layers. Is there an easier way to fix this other than recreating layers?

I have converted a number of PDF documents into JPEGs as I wanted them to be available to view via LR. I receive the message that 'Preview is unavailable for this file' and then 'Failed to find a place for the imported file'. The JPEGs are stored on an external drive. When I try the same thing in Aperture the JPEGs load into Aperture without a problem.

We have standard XMP files with metadata for our collections - box number, folder number, copyright, creator, etc. Is there a way to add this to Smart Preview so that it will apply it to all photos at the same time?
It would save so much time to be able to use Smart Preview and apply all the metadata and just tweak it for descriptions, than to upload the XMP files for each image.
for some reason I get the message 'preview unavailable for this file' for about 50% of the photos in the import module of LR4.1. This only seems to be an issue upon import since the files still import as usual and I do not encounter any further issues after the import with developing etc. It's not a huge problem for me but still quite anoying as I am not able to review my photos before actually importing them.
Here are some further details:I am shooting with a Nikon D300s, all photos are in NEF-format, I use USB-mini USB connection between computer and camera. The problem occurs on both my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 and my iMac Mid-2010. The problem only occurs with LR4, I didn't have any problems with LR3.
Suddenly, I am getting the above message, when trying to import RAW files in LR 4.3. I tried with two different cards and two different Readers.
When I click on Import, I get a blank thumbnail of all the photos with the message in it. I was able to see the photos in Finder on the Compact Flash card with no problem.
I have LR and camera up to date for a while, so nothing different has been done that I know of.
As LR 4 updates my LR3 catalogs it makes a new copy of the .lrcat and Previews file and renames them with -2. Should I delete the old LR 3 catalogs and previews and rename the new ones?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I reorganized my system so that my image files were on a different drive that I had previously been using a backup drive, so no additional file copying was involved. When I ran Lr it did not find any images, as expected, at the original location and I told it where to find them by pointing it to the new parent image folder. That worked fine but then it seemed as if all of the previews had to be rebuilt on the fly by Lr as I went to each folder. Could it be that the previews in the preview cache are location specific to drive/volume level rather than just folder level ? Or is there a way to aim that ole preview cache at the new image locations ?
Likewise, would this apply to the ACR cache too ? i.e. if I point Lr at the same images in the same folder names on a different drive, will the ACR cache data still be relevant or should I just scrap it and start again ?
I told Lr to rebuild previews for many of my images and it did so overnight, but now the preview cache is about 30GB instead of about 12GB. It's possible that I picked up previews of images that were previously not in the cache, but would the new cache still contain previews of the now non-existant images at the old locations ?
I have previously reverted to system backups in which the whole drive volume had previously been been copied intact. Lr always worked fine in those situations. Is my present problem because I shifted the images folder relative to the drive volume where Lr is running ?

Is conventional wisdom correct, that in order for the 72ppi photo to maintain same print size, it must be upscaled to 300ppi when before being transferred to the 300ppi doc?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to print a jpg to file in LR4. All the settings in the print module seem to be correct an I have done this before. I am print (to file) a 20X16 print at at 240 ppi sharpening = standard paper = glossy jpg quality = 100% . Printing to a Costco profile and intent = perceptual.
When I click print (to desktop) process bar comes up and very quickly progresses. The "print" appears on the desktop as an icon and not a thumbnail. It will not open. When I look at the file info: it is 15,763,189 bytes and has a dimension of 0 x 0 (?).I have tried this with several different files and get the same result.
I am using MacBook (late 2008) OS X 10.9.2 and recently upgraded to Lightroom 5.3 from Lightroom 4. After a while, some photo started to show exclamation mark at the right hand corner of the photo (*.CR2 raw files in NAS) in grid view. When I click on the exclamation mark, it shows a dialog with following message; "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo". So, I moved previews.lrdata, which is about 9GB, to the trash and restarted the Lightroom 5, expecting Lightroom 5 to create a new previews.lrdata. However, it won't create any preview at all.

I have a PSD file that became corrupted when the power went out in the house while in the middle of saving the the file.The PSD file itself is corrupted.
When I load it it says "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered." I have tried all sorts of PDS recovering programs and none could get the file recovered except for a BRIGHT BLUE/GREEN BACKGROUND.
When I load up photoshop 5.0 and go to select the corrupted psd file, there thumbnail DOES show up perfectly fine. However I cannot remotely see it in details because it's TINY.. Like 1/16" x 3" high.
Is there ANYWAY.. with ANY PROGRAM that will actually extract that thumbnail? All the ones I've tried online or downloaded extracts the thumbnail as just one BRIGHT BLUE/GREEN BACKGROUND.
I'd like to extract the thumbnail and have it LARGER so I can actually VIEW the contents.
I have a user who is trying to plot several design drawings which all have a connection to one shape file. The file in question is used as background data for the design and is apparently fairly large. When he plots the drawings only part of the shape data comes through. Based on the information I have it sounds like the software does not have enough time to retreive all of the shape data before the plot data goes to the printer.
