Lightroom :: Library Preview Displays At Lower Resolution Than Develop Preview
Jun 2, 2013
I recently bought a Nikon D7100. I took some test shots and imported the images to Lightroom 4.4, then generated 1:1 previews for all the images.
Previews zoomed to 1:1 in Library Mode are noticeably soft. The image below is a screen shot of the Library preview:
Moving to Develop View produces a higher-resolution 1:1 preview. The image below is a screen shot of the Develop preview:
Look at the bricks and window screens to see the difference.
This difference occurs immediately after import (with a User Preset applied during import). Once any Develop work is done, the Library preview updates and displays at full resolution.
This problem makes doing initial editing/selection of images time consuming, because I can't determine the sharpness/quality of imported images until I've done some kind of Develop adjustment on each image.

In the Lightroom 3 Print module I choose to print to a 300 ppi JPG file:
The strange thing is that in OSX's "Preview" the saved file shows up as being 72 ppi
However, in Photoshop the same file shows up as 300 ppi:
At this stage I would blame "Preview", but if I save the image in Photoshop, then open it in Preview it shows up as 300 ppi:

The videos were from Fuji X100, Nikon D7000, Sony NEX-7. No matter how many different phrases I google, I could not find any info on this issue. This is a bug that needs to be fixed ASAP unless Adobe is giving up on video in LR.

I just discovered, that when in Library module, and viewing my photos in Fill mode, it is not sharp. It is in fact so blurry, that it is unusable. Not sure I remember it correctly, but it happened also during the tethered shooting and viewing image on secondary monitor.
Interesting thing is, that once in a Develop module, Fill mode preview is sharp. I tried different settings re preview in Catalog Settings and Preferences, but no success.

I am using MacBook (late 2008) OS X 10.9.2 and recently upgraded to Lightroom 5.3 from Lightroom 4. After a while, some photo started to show exclamation mark at the right hand corner of the photo (*.CR2 raw files in NAS) in grid view. When I click on the exclamation mark, it shows a dialog with following message; "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo". So, I moved previews.lrdata, which is about 9GB, to the trash and restarted the Lightroom 5, expecting Lightroom 5 to create a new previews.lrdata. However, it won't create any preview at all.
exclamation mark at the top right hand corner of the photos in grid view.
size of Previews.lrdata file stops at 152KB.

Just downloaded LR 5 and noticed that I cannot jump back from a Publish Service folder preview to a different folder preview in grid mode. The only way to view photos in another folder is to restart LR 5. This only happens when I am viewing photos in a Publish Service such as Flickr.
I updated from LR 4 using Creative Cloud installer.

I can't remember when I first saw the recently-opened-document-list in which you can preview the documents; you hover your mouse above one of the documents listed there, a preview of the document pops up, and if you wait a second longer, underneath the preview some dates are displayed (modified date, Version info etc.). For as long I CAN remember, these dates have always been set to 1-1-0001 0:00:00, see picture below. I hoped that the release of Inventor 2011 solved this issue, but after installing Inventor 2012 this year, this issue has still not been solved. Is this an Inventor issue, or is it Microsofts responsibility?

An 32-bit HDR image as a smart object and applied HDR Efex Pro as a filter ... I have different previews in PS and LR. The correct image is in the PS. I've closed and open LR and create 1:1 preview, but I could not get the correct preview in LR in the develop module

When I work on the texture in one window and have the 3d window showing there is a huge discrepency in the preview resolution in the 3d window. It only gets crisp when I interact with the 3d model, move, rotate etc, but when I stop, it gets all pixelated again. I have it set to Best AA but that made little difference and I'm not finding any options anywhere.
Is there any way of setting the redraw resolution of the 3d preview to match the crispness of the 2d canvas?

I know those are almost opposites, but is there a way to allow VSPro to somehow pre process the video such that my preview runs more smoothly and with high resolution (or at least more smoothly).
I have a decent box and am trying to process 1080p clips. It seems to run smoothly after I create a file (in the preview window), but is there a way to have it do that without going to step 3 ("Share")?

I use PS 7 and learning fast.
The default resolution when I open a photo, is set on 72 pixels per inch. This produces a photo with not a lot of detail and my previews are not the same as the end result. I have read somewhere that it is better to work on 300 dpi. Is this correct?
And if so, how do I change the default setting?
Or should one always work on 72 and occasionally change to 200-300 dpi?

Illustrator Question regarding the texturization window. For some reason, every texture included (as well as one that I made in Photoshop), shows up in the Texturization window with a resolution of about 20 x 20 pixels. Even the simple sandy texture I made with Photoshop is displayed with poor resolution.
When I try File >> Place >> sand_texture.psd and drag it into the Swatches window, the texture isnt added no matter what I try.
I have included an image of what I see when opening the Texturization window.
Oh: Windows 7 64 Bit, Illustrator CC

I'm trying to edit a set of titles made in Premiere in After Effects, and after I import the file (as a Premiere file) then load the sequence into the timeline; the preview is just a black screen throughout the entire preview. The titles never show up.

When I select photos in library or on the video track they go black in preview window... nothing appears. But not all... some don't go black. This happens after working on project for 15-20 minutes. When I first start up computer they all appear in preview when selected. No problem then. Same if I shut down and restart computer. Only after working on project awhile does it happen. Also after some time working I get window saying no memory. I thought with 4 ram I could work for hours before getting any problems like this. I plug in my external WD Passport HD only for backups. And with MacShield filter turned off, still have problem. Could it be the VS Pro X5 software?

is there a way to preview images on what they look like without having to drag the asset out onto the stage? If I have even two or three versions of a file imported into my library, I constantly need to leave the program to check which is which.

A feature notably absent from the Oil Paint filter is any way to temporarily disable the effect (e.g., not preview it).I happen to like using Oil Paint to make refllections in the surface of water smoother and more "liquid" (which involves turning off the "Shine"), and it would really be nice if I could easily gauge the amount of the effect easily by blinking back and forth between original and processed image with a quick "disable preview" functionality.
With most standard filters, one can either uncheck a [ ] Preview box, and/or click the mouse button down on the image to temporarily show what the image is like without the effect.Yes, I know I can turn the Stylization down to 0.1 and see how a very minimal amount of the effect can be applied. And I can look at the original image in Photoshop proper, but of course that can't be zoomed while the Oil Paint filter is active.
Also, the zooming / panning seems kind of stiffly implemented. In summary, the more or less standard and expected filter features I'd like to see added to this (new class of) GPU-accelerated filters are:Preview/No Preview capability. It doesn't have to update Photoshop, just the preview display in the filter itself. I suggest a [ ] Preview checkbox and/or an on-mouse-click temporary effect disable.
Modal click and drag Zooming vs. Panning - i.e., based on a Zoom or Pan function selected (e.g., via an icon along the left) vs. having to hold modifier keys down. I personally would want it set to Zoom by default, not Pan. Since the filter has scroll bars (a Good Thing), I would have thought Zoom would have been a better default as it is. I have implemented these things in my own GPU-accelerated plug-ins, so I know that all the infrastructure Adobe needs to support them is already in there. These changes are controls only and should be trivial to implement.

I frequently export pictures from LR-5 to Phanfare. Up until today this process has gone smoothly. Now, suddenly, the file sizes are small, but with their develop adjustments applied. I use Chrome on an iMAC. Everything is up-to-date. It would appear that the exporter is dipping into the 1:1 previews. If so, how can it be rerouted to the proper source?

When i'm editing photos in the develop module they look really clear and good. When i switch to the library, they have a lot of noise and look nothing like how I edited them. I am using lightroom 4 for my mac. It's annoying to have to switch between the develop module and library to see what they are going to look like.

I finished editing 1500 photos in Lightroom 4 on a calibrated monitor, running 32Gigs of RAM (still sluggish). I noticed that the Library module was noticeably different from what I saw in the Develop module. It looked like none of the noise reduction I applied had made it to the Library preview. I tried rebuilding the standard previews and it did not work. I zoomed in 1:1 preview and when I zoomed out the preview was correct. I have to click on 1500 photos to view them correctly?

I am using Lightroom 4.4 Dell Ultrasharp monitor is calibrated. I own and have been referring to Scott Kelby's Lightroom4 book for digital photographers. I recently took some photos of my daughters prom. She had on a beautiful reddish orange dress. I notice that the dress appears very red in the develop module, however, appears a bit more orange in the library module. The change is very noticeable between the modules. The dress also appears similar to the library module view (a bit more orange) when viewed on the web via Flickr utilizing Chrome, Firefox, or IPad. It also appears the same when exported to a JPEG file.
I have done some experimenting and have determined that this color change effect appears to be very noticeable utilizing the Adobe Standard Camera Calibration Profile. It does not happen (at least to a noticeable extent) with the others such as Camera Standard where the dress appears a bit more orange in both the library and develop module. I do, however, like the appearance of the Adobe Standard profile better and this happens to be the default profile as well.
I have also noticed that the dress looks more orange when Soft Proofing is enabled. The change happens immediately when the check box is enabled. Checking the box makes the photo appear similar to the Library module view. Enabling Soft Proofing does make noticeable that there is Destination Gamut Warning which mainly involves the dress which is the point of interest, however, there is no warning with the Monitor Gamut Warning. I am intending to place the photos on the web at this time via Flickr. I will be printing several later so will be worrying about the printer gamut at that time. But for now, I would like to get the photos on the web looking as intended.

I'm running LR3.6 on XP SP2 with a wide gamut NEC PA241W monitor (calibrated). I haven't noticed a problem before, but just noticed a colour shift on shots of autumn golds and yellows. I get the image how I want it, working from the raw file in the Develop module, then switch to the Loupe view in the Library, where it looks less saturated. This is still viewing the raw file, not an exported file, so it should still all be working in the internal ProPhoto colour space?

I was really hoping that the Quick Develop panel in the Library Module which I sometimes use if there are minor touchups needed to a photo would have been redesigned to more closely resemble and work like the Basic panel in the Develop Module. Certainly sliders instead of those arrow buttons would be a very useful change.
Why this wasn't changed?

When I open the photos in "Library" do not look good. In "Develop" yes... When I go Library to Develop, the screen moves a bit, and then it looks good but does not work because when I export, the photos look, like in Library. I'm climbing the walls from last night (I uninstalled, updated, etc) Now is Lightroom 5.

I am having trouble with the Raw fies that have been adjusted in the Develop Module loosing all of their luster and pop when switching back to Library and exporting. In other words, my adjustments are generally flattened out and colors muted when going from Develop to Library. I see that the Camera Calibration shows only ONE profile option: Matrix. However, the same single option for my 7D is also Matrix but the Raw files appear to hold my adjustments after being made in the Develop module.
I am using LR 2.7 and Camera Raw 5.7.

I'm a light room noobie (as in I downloaded it 2 days ago). I'm loving the experience so far, however, I have a quick question, I have edited a few photos I took at a gig, I've developed them, however, when I look at them in Library, there is a loss of sharpness in some, in others where I've reduced noise in Develop, there is still noise when viewed in Library.

Using Lightroom 4.1 final, I see greatly different color saturation between the Library (very saturated) and the Develop (seems OK) module if I start the program on my sRGB monitor and drag the window to the wide gamut screen.
It seems like the Library preview is rendered as if the monitor was sRGB.
This seems very similar to the problem that was fixed from 4.1 RC2 to 4.1 final, but more specific to particular circumstances. And the problem does not exist if LR starts on the wide gamut monitor.
I'm using LR 4.1 final 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit and I always use LR with a single window despite having two monitors.
