View 1 RepliesWe are having an issue with Dimensioning and the Primary Units not maintaining the correct value. We use metric so the multiplier of 25.4 or .039370079 for Dim Scale Linear would be used in our Dimension Styles depending on if we are drawing in model space or annotating in paper space. We have created specific Dim Styles for Model and Paper space. Every so often some of us will us the Dim Style for paper space and a metric unit would be shown. When we go into the properties of that dimension and change the Dim Scale Linear to 1 it shows as a different dimension then it actually is. After looking at the correct dimenion, we noticed the Dim Scale Linear shows .9449 but gives the correct dimension.
Note: We are drawing in Metric a multiplier of 25.4, our dimensions are done in english. A scale factor of .039370079 is used to accomplish this.
There is a simple fix with Match Properties but it still doesn't answer why our dimension show up wrong with a different multiplier for Dim Scale Linear.
I'm still learning autodesk inventor, I have problem about tolerance. My tolerance more big than my primary dimension. How to edit this text..? or how to reset style editor for factory setting..?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf there is a way to force the dimension of a line or circle or anything.
For example: If I draw a line and dimension it, it will dimension it to 2.973 let's say, but if I want to change the dimension or the line to 3.300, how would I do that?
Also, after you create a 2D drawing, is there a way to make it a 3D model or extrude the model?
Is there a variable to force dimension text line to show? I am using annotative dimensions and the placement for the text is forced to the outside of the dimension if it doesn't fit. I get annoyed on having to move the text to show the dimline above the dimension.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have various multi leader styles set up in my drawing. I place a multi leader (arrow and text not seperate mtext) then decided to change it to a different leader style let's say from ML48 to ML96. The problem happens when I try to change it again. It doesn't update to my new multi leader style. Example....from ML96 back to ML48 or any other style. It seems like I only get one opportunity to apply a different style.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently, and reluctantly, purchased LT2012 and have learned to hate it with an unbridled passion. I have a client that uses Acad R14dwg still and when I open their dwg files the multileader style is set to some arbitrary "standard" instead of matching the existing dimstyle of "3-16 Letters" that the file was created with. When editing old files it makes it silly to add a leader and have to create a new multileader style with every single dwg I open. Can it be done once and never be done again for all subsequent dwg files regardless of when they were created? Can it be 'matched' to an existing leader that was created years ago?
For that matter, why did Autodesk pull some dimension leaders OUT of the dimstyle options at all? All dwg files are ONLY in model space, they never use layout or paper space, but that's another topic.
I'm working on a collaborative process that involves taking a .dxf from autocad and editing it graphically in illustrator. The .dxf file needs to be updated periodically and we have a system where we update the .dxf, open it in illustrator (CS6) and then copy/paste the updated elements into the graphic document in progress. When pasted, the new paths sometimes retain attributes (like stroke color) from the .dxf file, beneath the graphic style attributes of the layer the new work was pasted into.
Is there a way to force the graphic style of the layer being pasted into to override any original attributes from the copied file?
Is there anyway to prevent AutoCAD from converting a MTEXT leader with a block element attached to a BLOCK leader when doing a copy/paste? See screen shot.

For my dimension style, I have my text placement set to over dimension line, with leader, so I can drag the actual text outside the dimension line with a leader attached when necessary, but when I try to move the text outside of the dimension line it always draws the leader underlining the entire piece of text that I have moved. Is there a way to control the leader to attach to the middle of the line and not underline the entire piece of text when doing this operation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made the switch from acad 2006 to 2014. I was able to add quick leader to my dimension menu in customize user interface, but I don't have an icon in my dimensions toolbar. I figured it out, I needed to customize toolbars also, not just menus.

I want to have two dimension styles in one dimension line. The first style would be a point to point dimension with the text centered and above the dimension line. The second style would be a running dimension to each point with the text over the second extension line and above the dimension line. Right now I am using two seperate dimension lines, one on top of the other. I'm trying to find a way to combine them into one dimension line so that I won't have to dimension the same thing twice.
At first I thought that using alternate units would work, however I was not able to find a way to seperate the two dimensions. Also, I didn't see how to make the alternate units a running dimension.
Is there a way to assign different dimension styles to different sheets in an idw. I have idw drawings with several sheets and use a couple of different dimension styles depending on what is on each sheet. I've created the dimension styles I want to use but I don't know how to assign a dimension style to a specific sheet. For now what I am doing is dimensioning, then as needed for the dimensions that need a different style, right click on the dimension and select new dimension style to changes its dimension style. I would like to assign dimension styles to specific sheets, is there a way to do this? Even though borders, title blocks, etc. are the same throughout the sheets, do I need to create different sheet formats to do this?

I always put the dimensions and text leaders in model space, is it true if I plan to have 3 different viewport scales, I would have to create 3 different dimension styles for each VP scale, it’s quite hard to predict in advance which VP scale that I am going to use, Let say I am going to use 1/8”=1’ what is the simple math formula to use?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the dimension styles we have linear suffix and angular suffix. For angular dimensions we just want the degree symbol and for the Linear suffix we want the foot symbol. But when we dimension an angle we get both degree and a foot symbol, and we just want the degree symbol. We put the foot symbol on the linear units only yet it shows up on the angular dimensions.

However if i move the second dimension, the one matched to the first, the dimension changes to another scale.
I received a file (exported from datacad) with apx. ~1000 dimension styles. I selected all dimensions and changed their style to a new style. Now I want to delete the old styles, but Autocad says they are used. I tried purging, but it doesn't work.
View 8 Replies View Relatedwhy my dimstyle appears different when I use different versions of AutoCAD.
In LT it is correct (left hand image), both styles are STANDARD font but in the full version (right hand image) the suffix text style is ROMANS.
How do you make custom dimension styles global? How do you apply them to existing drawings with recreating each time.

I am trying to implement our new Styles Library for our Dimension styles. I keep getting this error (see attached).
I have done everything I can think of, I have mapped the default library to the new styles library location on the server. I have tried everything.
We have created one Style, but within this Style are two Dimension types (Dual and SIngle)
When a drawing from a model is created it defaults to the Dual Option and we can only select the Single Dimensions by individually selecting the Dimension and editing to Single Dimension, which can be time consuming.
Is there a way to select the Dimension type for the whole drawing?
Is there any way to change the colors of the dimensions styles, including dimension lines, extension lines and text to "by layer"
I found a code to change the colors, but only affects the current dimensions in the drawing and the styles do not change.
I was wondering is there a way to export text, dimension, leaders and table styles? I have been trying for a while but can figure it out not even sure that you can.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have, as our standard library default dimension style, a 1/32 fractional style, called "1/32-FRACTION". Various Object Types, like Linear Dimension are set to this Object Style. When I create a drawing, then these Object Defaults are in effect.
This means that, doing nothing while executing a dimension command, I get fractional dimensions by default. This works good.
However, sometimes I want to create a drawing where the default dimension style is "X.XXX-DECIMAL" without changing the Object Defaults found in the style library. I've tried to make the changes from within the style library and then save this as a template. However, when I try to make a drawing based on this template, Inventor states that the styles in the template differ from the styles in the library" and then busily goes about undoing what I careful did.
So I'm hoping there is something in the API I can call on to do this with a macro. Is it possible to write a macro that after you start a drawing, flips all the various Object Styles from "1/32-FRACTION" to "X.XXX-DECIMAL"?
