AutoCAD Inventor :: Styles - Select Dimension Type For Whole Drawing

Jan 19, 2012

We have created one Style, but within this Style are two Dimension types (Dual and SIngle)

When a drawing from a model is created it defaults to the Dual Option and we can only select the Single Dimensions by individually selecting the Dimension and editing to Single Dimension, which can be time consuming.

Is there a way to select the Dimension type for the whole drawing?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Standard Geometry With Multiple Dimension Values?

Jan 27, 2012

I am currently endeavoring to translate some (very) old print drawings of standard geometry used by my company to electronic format with Inventor. Many of these standards include a matrix of certain dimensions (noted by a letter variable on the drawing, such as "A") and what their values should be, given the required size of the geometry's main feature, like the cross section of an o-ring that is supposed to go with it. Is it possible to build such variable/multiple value dimensions in Inventor and have a corresponding matrix printed on the drawing with it?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimension Styles To Different Sheets In IDW

Apr 3, 2013

Is there a way to assign different dimension styles to different sheets in an idw.  I have idw drawings with several sheets and use a couple of different dimension styles depending on what is on each sheet.  I've created the dimension styles I want to use but I don't know how to assign a dimension style to a specific sheet.  For now what I am doing is dimensioning, then as needed for the dimensions that need a different style,  right click on the dimension and select new dimension style to changes its dimension style.  I would like to assign dimension styles to specific sheets, is there a way to do this?  Even though borders, title blocks, etc. are the same throughout the sheets, do I need to create different sheet formats to do this?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Automatically Load Sheet Metal / Tube And Pipe Styles In Standard Part?

May 17, 2013

I'm a bit confused on the style library system built into Inventor - it isn't very intuitive.

I'd like to create my tube and pipe styles as well as sheet metal styles and have to never create them again - regardless of the project/workspace. Is this something that can be saved in the standard part/assembly template files? If so, how?

I'm tired of creating styles every time I start a new document - it is a waste of a lot of time! And I'd like to avoid having to import settings on every document.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Setting Default Dimension Styles Different Than Object Defaults In Style Library

Apr 5, 2012

We have, as our standard library default dimension style, a 1/32 fractional style, called "1/32-FRACTION". Various Object Types, like Linear Dimension are set to this Object Style. When I create a drawing, then these Object Defaults are in effect.

This means that, doing nothing while executing a dimension command, I get fractional dimensions by default. This works good.

However, sometimes I want to create a drawing where the default dimension style is "X.XXX-DECIMAL" without changing the Object Defaults found in the style library. I've tried to make the changes from within the style library and then save this as a template. However, when I try to make a drawing based on this template, Inventor states that the styles in the template differ from the styles in the library" and then busily goes about undoing what I careful did.

So I'm hoping there is something in the API I can call on to do this with a macro. Is it possible to write a macro that after you start a drawing, flips all the various Object Styles from "1/32-FRACTION" to "X.XXX-DECIMAL"?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: CSV File Import Into Drawing - Marker Styles

Apr 7, 2013

I import a csv file into my drawing and all the points and figures get drawn correct and on the correct layers.

But I end up getting some extra things also:

1. a little white circle comes in from the marker styles.  it comes in on layer V-SURV-NTWK

2. i also get an extra white line that comes in on layer 0.

I have stopped these things from happening now by hitting the light bulb for the "basic" Marker Style and the "basic" Feature Line Styles.  But i would really like to know what the Marker Style and Feature Line Styles are and what they are there for.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Plot Styles - Cannot Choose Existing CTB File In Drawing

Apr 29, 2013

How to use my plot style "BRhalf.ctb" when plotting this drawing.  Also, a "heads-up" on background information on this drawing's plot style options, vs. the plot style options on many other drawings I have plotted.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Applying Moment Load On Multiple Components?

May 8, 2012

I'd like to know how inventor defines the center of rotation when you apply moment load on multiple faces at once. I'm not basically able to define where exactly I need that axis to be. and I dont understand where inventor assumes that axis is. if you take a look at attached model, obviously the resultant forces caused by the applied moment are bigger on the single pillar located on the extention, thats why its been displaced more than the others, but where exactly is center of rotation. I'm trying to avoid modeling of the section above this which technically transfers the moment thorough shear pins on the structure I have modeled.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Dimension Drawing Views

Aug 31, 2012

I am using Inventor 2013.  For some reason I cannot dimension some of the model entities in the drawing views in an idw file.  I can retrieve the model dimensions but it is usually easier to create the dimensions I need in each view.  I can select the line, curve, etc. when dimensioning but nothing happens.

After I think about it.  What I cannot dimension are lofts that I created with rails.  These rails were made up of lines and curves, not polylines.  How do I get the sketches for the rails I used for lofting to display in the drawing views so I can dimension those sketches.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimension Values Incorrect On Drawing?

Sep 6, 2013

I'm using Inventor 2013.  I created an assembly where I did a lot of top down modeling (meaning components in the assembly were created in the assembly.  All but a handful of the components are adaptive to other components).  When I went to make my drawings for having the components made, I started noticing that some of the dimension values were wrong.  I could go into the model and verify the features, but when dimensioning on the drawing it would not match.  Furthermore, this didn't occur on every dimmension on the drawing.  Not even half of them were incorrect, but it only takes one to really mess up a part.

I've attached a screen shot of what I'm seeing.  The 15.2 and 5 dimmension are correct, but obviously those don't add up to 31.37.  I know I can manually override this dimmension, but only if I know to do it.  I tried to do a drawing of another part in the same assembly and eventually found a similar problem.

Finally, I created a step file of the 1st part (to strip away the adaptivity) and when I created the drawing again, the problem went away.

My question is, is there something I did in the assembly / creation process that would have caused this?

Secondly I'm trying to dimension the mesh part, its not centrally align to the part and since I can't put a center mark on I'm not sure how I should dimension this...

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Dimension Of Beam With Two 45 Deg Cuts

Sep 20, 2013

I have recently drawn a steel construction, and I am now in the process of making the drawings. A problem that occurs is the length of beams used for bracing. When I click the two outer points, the lower dimension in the drawing appears. This is the length of the line between the two points. To be able to dimension properly, I have made a sketch with a straight line, which is perpendicular to one side of the beam. This has been used, with the point on the opposite side, to find the true beam length (and is showed as the upper of the two dimensions in the picture).
