AutoCAD Inventor :: Styles - Select Dimension Type For Whole Drawing
Jan 19, 2012We have created one Style, but within this Style are two Dimension types (Dual and SIngle)
When a drawing from a model is created it defaults to the Dual Option and we can only select the Single Dimensions by individually selecting the Dimension and editing to Single Dimension, which can be time consuming.
Is there a way to select the Dimension type for the whole drawing?

I have basic top and side views created however when trying to dimension overall lengths and widths i'm snapping to high and/or low points of the model and getting screwed dimensions.

Jan 14, 2013I have a VB program that auto updates the size of a door and frame assembly, and in turn, updates the shop drawings to reflect this change. I have a view on my shop drawing that I have drawn a sketch in. I start the sketch, add my dimensions, and I use 'Project Geometry' to project the edges of the actual part around the sketch to constrain my sketch and keep it in place. The problem is, as the program runs, and the door/frame changes height, the sketch loses it's dimensional references to the projected geometry. When I go back and reopen the drawing after running the program, all the dimensions that went to the projected geometry are gone.
Is there another way to anchor a sketch to a drawing view part instead of dimensioning to projected geometries? This doesn't seem to be working, and I've tried it every which way I can think of. Oddly enough, I have another sketch in a different view that is set up the same way, and it never misses a beat.

Apr 16, 2012I can "Get Model Sketch" to make it appear visible in a drawing view. But I can find no way to use these "edges" or "lines" or "entities" or whatever they are, later in a drawing view sketch. No way to project them from Model Sketch to Drawing View sketch. I can attach leaders and dimensions to these Model Sketch entitites but I can find no way to use them in a sketch owned by the drawing view. Am I missing something?

Aug 2, 2011I am trying to dimension a 1/8" drawing (in model space) and the text height on the dimensions is so small it is not even readable. I have tried modifying the dimstyle to have an "Overall Scale" of 96 (under 'Fit') and a "Scale Factor" of 1 (under 'Primary Units') and vice versa, but neither is working. I have never had this problem before. I am working in AutoCAD Architecture 2010. Also, when i try to dimension this in paper space, the size comes out ok but it is saying a 6' line is 576'... I would rather dimension in model space anyway but what's up with this? I realize 6 times 96 is 576 but how do you get it to be the right length in paper space?

Now i changed the part file just a little, the placement of a few holes, and saved it to a new name.
I need both versions.
In the Design Assistant i copied the drawing file to a new name.
Now i want, in the design assistant, to replace the file the drawing refferences, but can't, the replace option is greyed.
I understand there might be larger changes, is that the reason?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Diameter Dimension Out Of View From Detail View?
Dec 13, 2011I have a detail view of a groove on a cylinder. I want to dimension a diameter in which I only see one side, the other side is not in the detail view.
From some posts I see that I should auto insert a centerline then dimension from centerline then choose options "dimension linear".
First when I try to auto insert centerlines it does not insert the centerline for me. Perhaps because my detail is smaller. If I make the field for the detail view larger it makes a centerline, but I dont want to do that. I have tried making a sketch of the other side and the centerline. When I dimension from here I do not have the right click option of dimension linear, instead only arrowhead options.

Mar 12, 2013I am not able to dimension to a circle edge when adding a sketch to existing feature of part. It works fine when it is the first sketch of the part file, but not when it is a child sketch. I've attached images of both situations. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.

Oct 8, 2013I have a question about creating a drawing out of a model in Inventor 2013.
After selecting Base View it opens the Drawing View GUI, with the 3 tabs: Component, Model State, and Display Options.
Being fairly new to Inventor (and trying to learn as I go) I started looking through these tabs and discovered the All Model Dimensions check box in the Display Options tab. Seeing that it automatically dimensions the part when it is brought into the paperspace, I am wondering if there is any way to change the default dimension style for this choice from string to ordinate?

Jun 28, 2012I recently purchased AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 and all of a sudden when I select "File", and "Open", the dialog box from which I am supposed to select a drawing file has a small "Initial View" box with a small check box to "Select Initial View". This box seems docked to the right side of the "Select File" dialog box but I am unable to select the check box. It seems to do nothing. Is this a glitch?

Nov 25, 2008Each time when I place a part in base view, have to follow few steps; go through view label, format Text, than choose type option - [Properties-Model] and its property - [Part Number], than placing dimensions. it takes long time and very repetitive, especially, when placing a hundreds of parts and I was wondering if there is an option, to set up view label; [Properties - Model ]& [Part number], as a DEFAULT. So, each time placing a part, in base view it will come up with correct label. Also, overall dimensions, can it be retrieve using parameters of the part?
