AutoCAD Inventor :: Automatically Load Sheet Metal / Tube And Pipe Styles In Standard Part?

May 17, 2013

I'm a bit confused on the style library system built into Inventor - it isn't very intuitive.

I'd like to create my tube and pipe styles as well as sheet metal styles and have to never create them again - regardless of the project/workspace. Is this something that can be saved in the standard part/assembly template files? If so, how?

I'm tired of creating styles every time I start a new document - it is a waste of a lot of time! And I'd like to avoid having to import settings on every document.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Standard Part To Sheet Metal Part

Aug 29, 2012

In previous releases (2009 i think) when i converted a standard part to a sheet metal part i could recall all the sheet metal styles by linking back to the sheet metal template (i can't remember exactly how this was done, but it was possible with one operation)

In 2011 i canot find a quick way of doing this, it looks like i have to open the sheet metal template and export each different style (about 40 of them) and then import each one into the converted part. am i missing something? is there a simpler way similar to how it used to be done? Why have Autodesk made this more difficult?

As it stands at the moment it would be quicker for me to remodel the parts from scratch using the sheet metal template. I know this is the obvious solution, but seems strange to change something that worked well to something that doesn't!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Missing Tube And Pipe Styles

Oct 19, 2012

We have been working on inventor professional for a while. Now it is 2012 version have large tube and pipe assemblies created.Yesterday we noticed that ,when user wanted to create a Pipe Run/Edit existing pipe run..All Tube and Pipe Styles (including default and custom created ) are lost.I followed one of the procedure in the link below but lost half day of work (as I have to take a clean tube and pipe runs assembly file from previous evening to switch with the corrupted).

our users cannot be lucky everytime this happens, because sometimes they probably worked on something other than tube and pipe before the file gets corrupted.so switch over doesn't lose any of the work. But what if they have done a sizeable amount of tube and pipe design before the file gets corrupted?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Styles Disappeared

Jan 15, 2009

When I opened the model this morning to add new pipes, I saw that all my tube and pipe styles disappeared from the model. I can still see the pipes and routes created with the styles but there is absolutely no styles in the list of tube and pipe styles. If I open any other model in the project all is normal, for some reason it only appears to be a problem in one specific model. What can I do to get the styles back? I would prefer if i could get a remedy instead of recreating the model from scratch.

I have also exported all my styles from one assembly and imported it into the assembly giving problems, the software told me the styles are imported but the styles window shows blank, i.e. it shows that there is no styles.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Tube And Pipe Styles After Populated?

Nov 1, 2012

Ive got pretty good with the tube and pipe runs now, I am making runs, drawings, and BOM way faster than I could ever have done the old way (constraining many elbows to many pipes). But After getting a whole machine modeled, drawings completed, and BOM's finished I got thrown a curve ball and 2 out of 16 runs need to change size. The only way I can think to do this is to delete those 2 runs and start over with a different style. This means redoing those two drawings, balloons, dimensions and the BOMs. If there is a way to change from, for example, 1" threaded pipe style to a 1.5" threaded pipe style? Then my drawings, balloons, dimensions and the BOMs on them would update automatically.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal RIP Error When 2 Ends Of Tube Have Been CUT

Mar 11, 2013

Basically a 2.5" id tube with a .06 wall thickness - 16ga exhaust tubing. Once I finaly got the drawing right, I cannot rip the part. The part has both ends cut. If one of the ends is left un cut I can create a sketch and put a point where I want to rip, and successully rip the part. If both ends has a cut end has a cut, there is a RIP error. How to overcome this headache? I am trying to make a template which If i can rip the part, I will be able to do so.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal Tube Intersecting Chamber?

Apr 23, 2013

We build ASME chambers that have ports and tubes that intersect at various angles. When these tubes intersect at a standard angle, center on I have no problem creating the sheet metal layouts for the tubes. The attached PDF shows one intersecting at two differnet angles, off axis.

he sheet metal layout fo the tube part? I have modeled it pretty well, I just can't figure unfolding the tube portion. The head is a buy out item, we have that.

I have to ascertain two things ultimately, the hole size/layout (easy) and the tube (stumped).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Some Standard Pressed Sheet Metal Parts

Mar 7, 2013

Another iLogic question for you all.

I would like a simple rule adding to some standard pressed sheet metal parts that we have. The code would look at the current model tree and if any features are added to the part then a character (lets say a *) is placed into the "Vendor" field within the iProperties.

Is this possible?

I have to go into sheetmetal defaults and change it there for it to update the part to the correct thickness.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Derive A Part Containing Only A Block Into A Sheet Metal Part

Nov 15, 2011

I set up our company log which gets embossed on most parts as a sketch block in an .ipt.  The .ipt contains nothing but the sketch block.  To use it, the designer only needs to derive the Logo.ipt file into their part and then use the scale setting to set the derived block to the desired size for that part.  The result is a scalable set of line geometry that can easily be used for extrusion or emboss that is standard for all users.  It works beautifully, that is until you try to use it in a sheet metal part in 2012.

For some reason, when this same part, which works perfectly in normal parts, is derived into a sheet metal part an error pops up stating that, "Selected part does not have any geometry that can be derived."  Say what?

I was able to find a workaround by directly copying the block into the sheet metal part, but you no longer have the ability to go back and scale it if needed.  Even more strange, when the block was copied over, it could not be deleted from the new part.

Is this just a bug with 2012?  Why does it work in a normal part but not sheet metal?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Deriving Materials And Sheet Metal Styles

Oct 7, 2013

Deriving components is a good thing.  Unfortunately, there is no way (at least that I know of) to derive the material fields from the source object.  It's a little more complex when deriving sheet metal objects.  In that situation, you not only cannot derive the material, but you also cannot derive the sheet metal styles; but you can the thickness.

Either something I am missing through the "derive component" command, or an iLogic rule that would work?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Assembly Styles Don't Translate Into Other Assembly Files

Feb 9, 2012

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Duplicate Materials In Sheet Metal Rule Styles

Aug 3, 2012

So I'm in the midst of redoing my Sheet Metal Rules, and custom materials, since the update to 2013 kind of destroyed that.  I created a new material library, to house all of my custom Materials in.  I set it to be the only Material Library in the project, so now when I open up a file in that project, I only see my Custom material list, and that works fine when I go into the iProperties as well, the material list shows up correctly.

But when I go into the Styles Editor, and go to add my new custom Materials to my Sheet Metal Rules, the list of materials is shown in duplicate.  I have attached a couple of screenshots of me opening the iProperties, and the Sheet Metal Rules in the same file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Convert To Sheet Metal Part

For whatever reason this part was not modeled as a sheet metal part from the beginning, but now we would like to convert it to one.  But when the "Convert to Sheet Metal" button is pressed, an error message pops up saying "This model cannot be converted to Sheet Metal because it contains features that have created multiple bodies.  In order to convert to Sheet Metal these features must first be removed".  The only way I can get this message to go away is to delete all the features.  This part is used in a few weldments, so I'd rather not have to redraw it, but I'm at a loss as to why it can't be converted.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal Part - Rip Command / Extrude

Jun 6, 2013

I have attached a sheet metal part (2014 .ipt) and am having issues trying to use the rip command, maybe my understanding of the rip command is unclear, and I should probably just create a sketch and extrude a slit.

Using the image below as a reference,

What I want to do is to create a rip or slit from P1 to P2, which will give me face C. After this rip, I want to bend face C at P1 so that it is parallel to face A, leaving face B at its current state.

(the construction lines are from the existing frame that this will be welded to.)

My 2 solutions are to create this slit using the extrude command then fold, or to cut face C out completely and add a flange to that cut edge. I am just curious why the rip command is not letting me create a slit from P1 to P2.
