Illustrator :: Force Graphic Styles To Override All Attributes Of Pasted Elements?

I'm working on a collaborative process that involves taking a .dxf from autocad and editing it graphically in illustrator. The .dxf file needs to be updated periodically and we have a system where we update the .dxf, open it in illustrator (CS6) and then copy/paste the updated elements into the graphic document in progress. When pasted, the new paths sometimes retain attributes (like stroke color) from the .dxf file, beneath the graphic style attributes of the layer the new work was pasted into.
Is there a way to force the graphic style of the layer being pasted into to override any original attributes from the copied file?

When I use a numeric scale from the scale dialog box, Illustrator will not scale the the strokes and patterns attibutes applied to the layer via a graphic style. Has this always been the case, or is this a new CC feature? You know the ones that keep popping up as I'm trying to get my work done. I have to calculate the scale of all my patterns and strokes MANUALLY?

I'm on a Mac and have Illustrator CS6. Whenever I try to open up Graphic Styles, it freezes.I deleted preferences and even did the disk permissions repair, then restarted. Nothing. I tried to create multiple types of documents too (print, web, etc), but whenever I try to open styles after creating that document, it freezes.
These are the vanilla default graphic styles..It might freeze for other tools, but I'm not sure, haven't gotten that far in the investigation.

I'm designing a game for iPad and am using Illustrator CS3 to create the graphics. I created lots of card sized graphics and gave them all the 'RGB Parchment' graphic style which comes with Illustrator.
The document in the picture is (part of) an illustrator file that I created these cards in. If I take one out to another document to edit it and save it as a .png - it comes back different. As you can see in the picture, in the centre are two mock ups I made for a card. The left is an illustrator file 'placed' in the document and the right is the same file but exported as a .png and then placed in.
The .png keeps the transparencies but the shadow is completely different, it's a horrible brown as well as the shape being slightly different and the quality quite low. I sent the whole mock up picture (which is much bigger) to my iPad and I can still see the lower quality in the right, .png card.
If I want to bring graphics into some software to build the app I can't bring in illustrator files so I cant to create them as .pngs but when they're so different / low quality I don't know what to do. I just want to be able to use that 'RGB Parchement' graphic style and not have it changed so much when I export it.

I'm trying to make an image with 2 layers: one is a circle that I'm using as a background (and everything outside the circle is transparent) and the other is a selection that I've copied that I want to paste over the background. Is there a way to make it such that the selection I'm pasting will only cover the background image and if any parts of the selection that I'm pasting go outside the background image into the transparent parts of the image that the transparent section will remain transparent?
I've been doing it an ad hoc way of just erasing parts of the layer that I'm using to paste and checking for transparency underneath but that's pretty time consuming. I assume there's a better way?
Also, vice versa: is there a way so that if I have a selection that has transparent sections that I paste over a background, that the selection I'm pasting will have it's transparent sections not overwrite none transparent sections of the background? I mean, outside of using magic wand to select everything except the transparent sections and just pasting the parts I selected using magic wand over.

With the latest Illustrator update through Creative Cloud, every time I try to open the Graphic Styles panel my Illustrator gets the spinning beach ball on the Mac (OS 10.7.5) and I have to force quit.

I make a graphic style with more than one stroke. I choose the brush tool. I click the graphic style. I draw a line. only one of the strokes is applied to the path. I have to select the path again, and then click the graphic style for it to apply."New art has basic appearance" is unchecked.It's time consuming and frustrating. And it takes the punch out of one of the better additions to the program.

I opened lots of graphic styles in one document, they all arrived in the same windo for once (to which I haven't been able to replicate since). How to organise your graphic styles? I've created a few in one document and I need to export to another, but I use these styles often, so I was thinking of saving them to my own styles folder, but don't know what to do?

Scenario: Start with a named graphic style of say 2 pt black stroke/no fill called '2.0 pt'. Create an object using said style, copy and paste it, every time I do this I get '2.0 pt 1', '2.0 pt 2', '2.0 pt 3' etc. insanely populating my graphic styles panel.
This is with CS6 (16.0.4) running on Mac OS X.6.8.

I have added a 4 Panel Sliding Door from the standard Revit family. I would now like to only change the colour of the frame in lets say my north elevation. My understand is that this would be done by overriding the frame material via Manage>Object Styles>Doors>Frame/Mullion, then applying a new material.
I have made sure that my shade colour is set to the correct RGB value, and in my north elevation I have my Visual Style set to shaded.
Why am I not seeing the new shaded colour?

Is there a way to insert a Ai graphic into msWord and the graphic text still be searchable in msWord? I would like the text in my Ai graphic to be searchable once the graphic is inserted in msWord. I have tried different Ai exports, but all come into msWord as pictures. Is there a way to keep the Text Layer in my Ai file searchable in msWord.

I have an InDesign document, where I have defined some Object styles for my text frames - such as the size (width x hight) of the text frames, and this works fine.
I would like to do the same thing for my graphic frames, but I can't find this option. I figure it must be possible somehow?
An object style which makes the picture frame ex. 50 x 50 mm. with the picture centered in the frame.

I'm using Sheet Set Manager in Autocad 2011. I'm using 'page setup override', and as plot area 'print extents'. So far, so good. Until someone forgets something outside the title block, and the extents feature is not good anymore (several people working in the same projects).
So, I decide to use as plot area 'Layout' instead, typing the X & Y to determine the area to be plotted.
Now, the setup "override" doesn't override. It’s using the drawing plot area from the drawing itself, which completely defeats the purpose. Am I missing something?

I'm working on CS6, OSX, I exported a logo to jpeg form Illustrator, when I open it on the default image preview app and try to copy (cmd+V) it won't let me, the copy option under edit isn't gereyed out but when I use it or press cmd+v a sound tells me the action can't be completed and it obviously doesn't copy to th clipboard, When saving it from the "save for web" option it works properly and I can copy and paste without problems, all of this also happens if I do it in Photoshop, this has never happened to me until now.

I have created an action in Illustrator CS5 that ungroups a radar graph and deletes the axis lines. And I would like to run this action on a batch of 100 files. The problem I am having is that when I run the action, I get the following pop-up message at the ungroup command:
If I click OK, the action continues. But, as part of a batch, it becomes a bit tedious to have to click "OK" 100 times, and it sort of defeats the purpose of running the action as a batch.
I see options in the batch window to override action "Save As" and "Export" commands, but is there a way to have the batch override this confirmation message? I suspect there may be a way to do this with a script, but I am not proficient enough with scripting yet to take that route.

I have a detailed graph that is created in Excel that I want to paste into Illustrator so that I can save it as a high resolution TIFF file for submission to a journal.
In Excel the graph looks like this:
But when I select it (using Select Objects and then Copy OR Copy as picture) and paste it into Illustrator, it looks like this:
I have used different line formats in Excel for the different curves that are plotted and these obviously don't come through correctly when pasting into Illustrator. The lines are there but the scaling for the dashes or dots seems to be changed (increased). I'm good with Excel but a bit of an Illustrator newbie, why this is happening and can it be corrected.
I am on Win 7 64 bit system using Office 2010 and AI CS6

I was having trouble in Illustrator CS6 joining two points smooth. I read this article ...[URL]... about joining in Illustrator CS5 (which seems to be the same in CS6) ... and noticed it says "A Smooth join is possible only when the end-points are smooth" ... now who came up with this asshat rule (pardon my french)??? I used to be able to force a joining to be smooth no matter what kind of points I had, however, not anymore it seems
This is what I had trouble with:
Smooth joins
Step 1.As you can see in the image below I have two points both with an arm ... they should qualify as smooth end-points, right?
Step 2.So after moving the two paths together I went ahead and selected the two points with my Direct Selection Tool (the white arrow). Notice how only one arm sticks out all of a sudden (this was actually a clue to why I had trouble in the first place but more on this later).
Step 3.I tried to force the two points to join smoothly by using the cmd+opt+shift+J shortcut to get the Average & Join dialog box up and select Smooth ... to no avail.
Step 4.It stil ends up doing this weird joining (this is after I tried to move the point with my Direct Selection Tool).
Step 5.So I used cmd+Z until I was back to square one and then I discovered if I moved one of the end-points there was another one beneath it. Notice that it is the point that was missing an arm in step 2, when I had selected what I thought was only two points, which should have clued me in.
Removing the extra point and placing the two smooth end-points on top of each other again made it possible to make the smooth joining, I had tried to do countless times.
What I wonder about now is the fact that I could get the Average & Join dialog box without having Illustrator complain up a storm about me having selected more than two points? Illustrator used to be very picky about this, which would have made me discover the extra point way sooner.
Shortcuts In the article I also noticed people complaining about the four keys shortcut for the Average & Join dialog box (cmd+opt+shift+J). You can just go ahead and change that in Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts... (cmd+opt+shift+K). Here is how:
Step 1.In the dropdown change Tools to Menu Commands.
Step 2.Go to Other Objects ... there you will find Average & Join. Go ahead and clear the shortcut and press whichever shortcut you wish for. I chose cmd+J, because I wish to use this method more often than Join. After this you get the option to Go To Conflict ... I did that and gave Join the shortcut shift+cmd+J and ended up giving Justify Text Left the shortcut cmd+opt+shift+J ... yeah, I seldom use the shortcut for Justify Text Left anyway.
Step 3.I saved my new custom shortcut set with the name "Adobe Illustrator CS6 Shortcuts" ... that way I can search for the file and take it with me in case I need it on another computer and the name tells me which version it is for.

Problem: Ps CS6 incorrectly renders vector objects pasted from Adobe Illustrator. CS5.1 does not exhibit the problem.
Below is screenshot of artwork in Illustrator and which is copied to clipboard, followed by screenshot of "Paste as Smart Object" in Ps CS5.1 then screenshot of same paste in CS6. "Paste as Pixels" gives identical good rendering in CS5.1 and poor rendering (gray pixels which should be pure white in this example) in CS6. This is repeatable with other artwork.
Several weeks ago there was a complaint in this forum that Photoshop CS6 poorly renders vector artwork that is pixel-aligned in Illustrator. The Adobe response was that Photoshop is correct. Strange that CS5.1 can render pasted vector artwork perfectly and only CS6 makes a mess.

I created 4 graphics in Illustrator CS3, downloaded them onto a CD cover template and saved as an .ai file which looks fine. When I attempt to then save it as a pdf, one of the graphics drops out.

I try to place a jpg or psd graphic inside a normal Illustrator document. Illustrator tells me the graph has no color profile (what is not correct - it has) but whatever option I choose nothing happens - no graphic is placed, I get no cursor to place the graphic. Or Illustrator just crashes. This used to work just fine in earlier version... I use CS6 cloud version.
