Illustrator :: Sub Layers Insist On Opening Themselves?
Feb 9, 2013
I'm a cartoonist, and I do rather complex vector drawings. It's no unusual for my work to have hundreds of layers, and those layers have dozens of sub-layers. When I opens said files, several layers expand to reveal all the sublayers. I then have to colapse them, one at a time. Is there a quick way to close all sub layers at once?
When I open a file, one or more layer are opened/expanded in the layer tab on the side of the screen. I can close the layer, make modifications, and save; but when I open it up, the layer is always opened. It doesn't happen with every file. But on the files that do have this, it's always like this.
If CC is a TRIAL program, why would you allow it to blow away layers and groupings when the doc is reopened in CS6? No I have to resinstall CC, open the doc, save it back down to CS6, and PRAY that the layers and groupings are intact. What a waste of my time.
[URL] This image is directly from a customer’s email. An Illustrator template for custom candy bags is sent to the customer and has about 10 layers on it. Somehow they always come back as Layer 1, flattened. I am opening them up in CS5.why a multi layered file constantly comes back from our customers as a single layer? Having all layers is very important for these bags to print properly.
Is there a way to open a file as a layer? I want to open multiple files in the same window to make a collage. Currently, as I open each file they all open in separate windows. The "Open Document As Tabs" option in the User Interface preferences is not selected.
I have a question about the layers I created in photoshop and I would like to open as a vector in illustrator.
The layers in photoshop as a smart object are done in pen tool.
The question is a little confusing, but what I'd really like is to take an art that I created in photoshop pro after effects, as a vector. Only when I open the AE, rasterize all layers and can not work by increasing the elements.
Hence I wonder if I can bring all these elements created in Photoshop vector shape in Illustrator pro.Without me having to "redo" everything in illustrator.
When I open an Illustrator file with many layers, nested groups, etc. I have to spend the first minute or so closing all the nested layers in the layers palette.
I've searched for a preference but can't find anything to tell Illustrator to open with all layer triangles closed. Is this possible?
because the specified color book cannot be found? The file is opening without any colors and as i am trying to set the file up to print, it is VITAL that i have colors.
I have just upgraded to W7 and a new computer and now find that when I drag in directly from a folder or open from within X4 the images that are saved as PSD file (originally created in Photo Shop by a friend for me), opens all layers individually rather than one image with all the layers contained to edit. Before the update to W7 I had Vista and the image went in to X4 as expected, contained as one image with editable layers.
All I want to do is make a collage of three or four images but I can not open more than one image at a time. How do I get the images into the layers pallet so I can edit from there. I can not find anything in the user guide that will tell me how to do it. I watched and tried the video tutorial intro to layers in PSP x5 but that didn't work for me either. I am using PSP x4
I've recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2012 and CADS RC 2012 and a really annoying thing has starting happening! Every time I open a new drawing or an existing one, all the layers are automatically set to 'no plot' so print previews come up completely blank every time! I then need to manually go through all the layers setting them to plot or no plot as required!
Why is a dwg opening with layers looking all white on one pc but open up with colored layers on another pc?
Whenever i open certain drawings on my laptop the layers show normal colors, but when a client opens up the same drawing, they only see the graphics in white.
I created an image in gimp and flattened it before saving. I now want to edit some of the text in that image, but when I open in Gimp "As Layers" or just open it, it does not open in three different layers, like I had before flattening it. Am I doing something wrong. I saved it as a jpg file after flattening it.
I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue.
When opening older documents, why does PS CS6 mess up my text layers when I select them? I open the .psd from CS5 in a file with many text layers, the text is correct when opeinging the file but when i click on it to edit it, data from another layer replaces the selected text!
Why my multi-layered psd and tif files saved with PS12 64 bit are opening flattened in PS7?
There's been some inconsistency.Initially all psd were flattened. Some tif copies i made were not...but most were still flattened when opened with PS7. Perhaps it is because i'm using the 64 bit version and my friend with PS7 is not.
I don't have this problem on all my files, only a select few. When i save a file and reopen, all the viewports in which I have frozen layers are all reset. All layers are turned back on and I have to go through every viewport and refreeze layers. This problem has persisted long enough that I unfortunately know when I close a file I will have to reorganize the layers next time I open the file. Is this a setting issue or this a bug in the file?
I'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)
Is it possible to disable or defeat the auto-expanding behavior? Placed in bold
Why in the heck do Macs show layers in a PDF that are HIDDEN at the time of saving if "Create Acrobat Layers from Top-Level Layers" is checked is checked -BUT- PC's don't??
I just proofed a business card with my boss accidentily showing him some type on a layer that was hidden. He approved it. Now I have to make a bunch of type set up in very tight margins work in production.
I was trying to save a large file as a Photoshop PDF and my program crashed. I was lucky enough to have saved this file in both a JPEG and PNG format onto my desktop but now once I move the files back into Elements, I have no history and no layers?
I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.
I'm not that fluent in Photoshop. I have a PSD, see here: [URL] . I want to open this in Illustrator so I can print it on my vinyl printer. I need to be able to have this as a vector.
When I open it from a .eps, .pdf, whatever, I get some of the text as vectors, but everything else is some sort of image on 1 layer.
See this screenshot:What I did in the screen shot is take the layer that has most of the items, all together, not vectored and dragged it to the left for you to see.
Even though they are saved as AI. On other computers it opens properly. The few files I can open, I can't select using the selection tool because of a clipping mask I cannot get rid of.
I installed cs5 and used it without problems. I downloaded a trial version of cs6, and when it expired, I get a message that say cs5 has quit unexpoectedliy everytime I try to open it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it still will not open.
I use a PC and have Illustrator CS4. When I open AI, the rulers do not appear. I have saved my workspace with them showing, but when I open that workspace, they do not appear. I have to go up to View>Show Rulers (or do the shortcut). I know this is extremely minor, but my rulers appear in ID CS4, so I'm wondering why I can't set AI to do that, too. It's like having to plug in your keyboard every day...you just want it to be ready to go when you get ready to work.
I just started using the CC version of the design products this weekend, and yesterday I spent all day working on a design in Illustrator. Today if I try to open it, Illlustrator just hangs - and eventually I have to force quit. I get no error messages at all.
I can open the file in my old version, CS5.1. And really, I shoudl be able to open it where I created it.
This is not a particularly large or complicated file.
I am trying to open a PSD file in Illustrator CS, and I get the following error: "The embedded color profile in this document will be discarded, because your Color Settings are configured for Adobe Illustrator 6.0 Compatible color management"?
I am losing color on the final product and this is going to be made into a poster.
