All I want to do is make a collage of three or four images but I can not open more than one image at a time. How do I get the images into the layers pallet so I can edit from there. I can not find anything in the user guide that will tell me how to do it. I watched and tried the video tutorial intro to layers in PSP x5 but that didn't work for me either. I am using PSP x4
I have just upgraded to W7 and a new computer and now find that when I drag in directly from a folder or open from within X4 the images that are saved as PSD file (originally created in Photo Shop by a friend for me), opens all layers individually rather than one image with all the layers contained to edit. Before the update to W7 I had Vista and the image went in to X4 as expected, contained as one image with editable layers.
I have changed all the settings on my computer and in PSP X5 to make it the default program that opens any picture/graphic file except files with the psp and pspimage extension because they aren't even an option. When I try to do it, it reverts back to X4. When I try to make the changes within the program itself, those 2 file extensions aren't even in the list!
My hard drive was failing and had to be replaced. Fortunately I was able to retrieve most of my images and documents. However, that got complicated. Burning CD's and DVD's wasn't working so I had to transfer files to a flash drive, then to my laptop from the PC, and only then could I burn the stuff to a DVD.
So .. now a new hard drive .. programs and images are re-installed. In only one folder of images am I finding this problem ... When trying to open a file (cartoon-type image, smalll file size of 2 MB or less) I get the message "Not a valid Paint Shop Pro X2 Image file". When double-checking by right clicking and then clicking on "properties" it most certainly IS a PSP X2 image file. In this folder of 192 files I can only open a couple dozen.
If I work in Edit mode all the time I can open as many pictures as I like from the Organizer and have them all open at the same time. If I return to the Organizer and open another image, the ones already open are not affected. However if I go to the Manager tab (which only seems to be the Organizer on a separate page) to select an image I have to close any and all items already open in the editor. Surely this cannot be intended behaviour. In X3 it was possible to open images in the Organizer which was on a separate page and then return to it and open others without the original ones closing so why can't we do this in X4? The Manager does allow multiple images to be selected and opened at the same time but these are still closed if at any time you return to the Manager.
Update: I have now read a few posts about this problem and indeed it is not possible to switch between Edit and Manage modes without closing any images you have open for editing. The general feeling seems to be that this is not a problem as the Organizer (File manager) is available in Edit mode anyway so there is no need to go to the Manage tab. However I would disagree with this as some of my folders contain large numbers of images and it is much easier to browse through them using Manager in thumbnail mode as you can see far more images at once than with the Organizer in Edit mode. Also I find that Organizer gets in the way in Edit mode and would much prefer to switch back and forth to the Manager as was possible in X3.
Even if this problem does not affect everyone it is still difficult to understand why Corel would insist that images in the Editor are closed before switching to Manage mode. I cannot personally think of one reason why this would be preferable. Additionally the Organizer in Edit mode does not appear to have any way of resizing the thumbnails to optimize the number viewable at any one time.
I recently purchased this computer. It works great. Want to take it on our RV trips. problem is I installed my Paintshop X3. Went in w/o a hitch. Now if I clickon a desktop icon ,which replaces a stock folder,The X3 will open up. Also if I open any of my picture folders it will do the same thing. I do not have this problem on my 32 bit desktop. One other point. I uninstalled (Complete), reinstalled>> Then uninstalled , and installed the X2 Same results . I have looked at all of the preferance settings, sure there must be one to solve this problem
After I installed Paint Shop Pro X4, I noticed that some of my picture files had changed and now I can't open them. They are labeled as .alb files. What must I do to open or convert them. Many were made a decade ago. I hate to loose them.
I have had PSP X5 since shortly after it came out. I rarely use it because it is very confusing after working in v9 for many years. I have finally decide I just need to jump in with both feet & do this. I have 2 questions.
My first is why is X5 so slow in opening up. I have never had any version of PSP to be so slow opening. The second is I make new customized tool bars that work for me & save the workspace, however when I open it up the new tool bars are there but not in the position I saved the.
I somehow managed to change the settings so that now when I open a file, I can't see the picture I want to edit. I get a black box with vertical colored lines through it. How do I get rid of this, or get back to the system defaults?
Right now my program opens to the "manage" screen. I changed it way back when, due to freezing issues. It's freezing more and more now and just recently started showing a HUGE preview screen on the right. Not sure what I did to cause this but I'd like to change it back to opening to the Edit screen.
I've seen a strange behaviour when it opens a new batch of DNG RAW files from my Pentax K-R; it seems to automatically take a stop or two of exposure out of all of the photos, regardless of whether or not they were under/overexposed. I can watch it going through them one by one and reducing the exposure of each photo in that batch. So far I don't think that it's lost any information (crushed the blacks beyond repair) but it's annoying that now I have to go back and bring all the photos back up a stop of two to return them to a correct exposure. The same behaviour is not present when I open the DNG files in the Pentax photo editor (Silky-Pix).
Is there some sort of auto-behaviour that is doing this? I've looked through all the options / preferences that I can find and haven't come across anything that seems to be related. Asside from this I've been very happy with X4 and I think it's a great value for what it does, but I'm holding off on editing my latest batch of pics until I figure this out.
I haven't really used PSP for doing custom graphics, mostly for working on photos; but before that I was using Adobe Photoshop and I liked (and still do) how it made saving easier than PSP does. Unfortunately Photoshop is horribly expensive so this is a better option.
I can't figure out for the life of me how to save .psd or .eps with the layers? It keeps telling me that due to how I am saving or the file format the alpha layers will be lost and so on.
I have Paint Shop Pro X4 which I am using to try and manipulate images of postage stamps. I scan the stamp using a film/slide scanner and using the cmyk splitter can produce a good images of the watermark and postmark cancellation, which I save separately. On a lot of the older stamps the plate number, from which the stamp is printed, is engraved into the design of the stamp and quite often this number is obliterated by the black cancellation mark. Is there any way using layers, or any other X4 feature, I can lift the cancellation mark from the image to see what is underneath?
I'm using 3-5 adjustment layers on some of my work. Even though I have larger files, without Adjustment layers, once I add an Adjustment Layer to ANY piece of work things slowdown big time. For example a 'normal' curves application is almost instant. But if I add a curves Adjustment Layer then what took 1-2 second takes 10-15 seconds using an Adjustment Layer.
So is there something that Adjustment Layers are doing that is a computer hog? Or am I overlooking something? Or are they just configured in such away that they are naturally slower? [URL]....
I can not figure out how to maintain the original file size of my photos when I open them in Paintshop For example, the original file might be 3.78 MB but once it opens in Paintshop it is only 706 KB. Do I need to change settings somewhere?
I am having trouble adding tools to my layer palette in X4. Previously I use X2 and can perform this action. However it seems to be lacking in X4 and I certainly miss that.
In X2 I could easily add duplicate layer in the layer tab and all I had to do was a single click the tool and I could perform this action, it was convenient keeping in the same area where I could also delete the layer.
I know in X4 I can add the duplicate layers in the top toolbar, however it is not as convenient and seems to be counterintuitive to have it away from the delete layer tool. I also miss the other layer palette customizations.
Is there any other way to add the duplicate layers on the layers palette? Is there a way to perhaps copy the workspace from x2 to x4(probably a silly question).
I'm having an issue with layers not opening properly. I have a file that is a .psd, and when I open it initially, the layers are there. Then, if I save it, it pops up a box saying "because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you have selected), group data will be converted to raster data. Would you like to continue?
If I hit "yes", when I reopen the file, it only has 2 layers. What do I need to do in order to save it with all the layers in tact?
When I was experimenting before, I was able to see the different layers listed on the RH side of the workspace. Now they are not appearing at all. I have searched but still cannot view the list of the layers I have created.
This in turn means I cannot work on them. And yes, I have got the View>Palettes>Layers box ticked. How to view these layers listed?
I have a photo that I've duplicated into 4 layers. (1 background layer and 3 edit layers).
I'm trying the use the Erase Tool to erase the same section on the 3 edit layers at the same time. This action saves me repeating the same erase on all three layers as separate actions.
Is there no way to use the eraser (or delete selections) on adjustment layers? I do/did this routinely in X3. I have missed some sort of configuration setting in X4!?
Someone just emailed me that she is "suddenly" able to customize the Layers palette - she even included a screenshot! How to do this???? I can't, no matter what I try. I have PSP X4 14.1.0.5 - the last drop given to us during beta testing, with the sp1 patch applied.
I want to create a collage. I set a feather value, make a selection out of a 2nd image and paste it into another file. Pastes in fine, but when I try and grab the corner of the pasted layer and resize it to be smaller, for some reason (I have done this approach on 20 other occasions), it doesn't resize as a rectangle as it should. It starts to resize as an octagon type shape. The following link shows an example of a freshly pasted layer that I tried to resize. There must be some setting that got changed because I have done this across four different versions of paint shop
Example below that shows the big layer getting "bent out of shape". URL....
Well I've got a problem when I work with layers, when I want to merge the layers, PSP closes everytime. If I register my work before merging the layers, it's ok.
