After I installed Paint Shop Pro X4, I noticed that some of my picture files had changed and now I can't open them. They are labeled as .alb files. What must I do to open or convert them. Many were made a decade ago. I hate to loose them.
View 1 RepliesI've seen a strange behaviour when it opens a new batch of DNG RAW files from my Pentax K-R; it seems to automatically take a stop or two of exposure out of all of the photos, regardless of whether or not they were under/overexposed. I can watch it going through them one by one and reducing the exposure of each photo in that batch. So far I don't think that it's lost any information (crushed the blacks beyond repair) but it's annoying that now I have to go back and bring all the photos back up a stop of two to return them to a correct exposure. The same behaviour is not present when I open the DNG files in the Pentax photo editor (Silky-Pix).
Is there some sort of auto-behaviour that is doing this? I've looked through all the options / preferences that I can find and haven't come across anything that seems to be related. Asside from this I've been very happy with X4 and I think it's a great value for what it does, but I'm holding off on editing my latest batch of pics until I figure this out.
I can not figure out how to maintain the original file size of my photos when I open them in Paintshop For example, the original file might be 3.78 MB but once it opens in Paintshop it is only 706 KB. Do I need to change settings somewhere?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased this computer. It works great. Want to take it on our RV trips. problem is I installed my Paintshop X3. Went in w/o a hitch. Now if I clickon a desktop icon ,which replaces a stock folder,The X3 will open up. Also if I open any of my picture folders it will do the same thing. I do not have this problem on my 32 bit desktop. One other point. I uninstalled (Complete), reinstalled>> Then uninstalled , and installed the X2 Same results . I have looked at all of the preferance settings, sure there must be one to solve this problem
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had PSP X5 since shortly after it came out. I rarely use it because it is very confusing after working in v9 for many years. I have finally decide I just need to jump in with both feet & do this. I have 2 questions.
My first is why is X5 so slow in opening up. I have never had any version of PSP to be so slow opening. The second is I make new customized tool bars that work for me & save the workspace, however when I open it up the new tool bars are there but not in the position I saved the.
I somehow managed to change the settings so that now when I open a file, I can't see the picture I want to edit. I get a black box with vertical colored lines through it. How do I get rid of this, or get back to the system defaults?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have changed all the settings on my computer and in PSP X5 to make it the default program that opens any picture/graphic file except files with the psp and pspimage extension because they aren't even an option. When I try to do it, it reverts back to X4. When I try to make the changes within the program itself, those 2 file extensions aren't even in the list!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to W7 and a new computer and now find that when I drag in directly from a folder or open from within X4 the images that are saved as PSD file (originally created in Photo Shop by a friend for me), opens all layers individually rather than one image with all the layers contained to edit. Before the update to W7 I had Vista and the image went in to X4 as expected, contained as one image with editable layers.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive was failing and had to be replaced. Fortunately I was able to retrieve most of my images and documents. However, that got complicated. Burning CD's and DVD's wasn't working so I had to transfer files to a flash drive, then to my laptop from the PC, and only then could I burn the stuff to a DVD.
So .. now a new hard drive .. programs and images are re-installed. In only one folder of images am I finding this problem ... When trying to open a file (cartoon-type image, smalll file size of 2 MB or less) I get the message "Not a valid Paint Shop Pro X2 Image file". When double-checking by right clicking and then clicking on "properties" it most certainly IS a PSP X2 image file. In this folder of 192 files I can only open a couple dozen.
When I wish to open MP4 files in programs other than PSPX3 a dialog box always pops up

There is a process bar which moves very slowly, and a Cancel button.
If i hit Cancel the dialog box goes away and my file loads right away in what ever program I'm using.
My request is: How do i get this stupid box to pop up all the time, when i'm not even wanting to use PSPX3?
(using PSP-X3 ) I cannot find anyway to set the default of FIT TO WINDOW when opening a file.
All files seem to come in very large and I then have to do a "Window > Fit To Window" to get it right.
When I try to use PSPx5 to open .psp images created with older versions of PSP, I get the message that they can't be opened.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I work in Edit mode all the time I can open as many pictures as I like from the Organizer and have them all open at the same time. If I return to the Organizer and open another image, the ones already open are not affected. However if I go to the Manager tab (which only seems to be the Organizer on a separate page) to select an image I have to close any and all items already open in the editor. Surely this cannot be intended behaviour. In X3 it was possible to open images in the Organizer which was on a separate page and then return to it and open others without the original ones closing so why can't we do this in X4? The Manager does allow multiple images to be selected and opened at the same time but these are still closed if at any time you return to the Manager.
Update: I have now read a few posts about this problem and indeed it is not possible to switch between Edit and Manage modes without closing any images you have open for editing. The general feeling seems to be that this is not a problem as the Organizer (File manager) is available in Edit mode anyway so there is no need to go to the Manage tab. However I would disagree with this as some of my folders contain large numbers of images and it is much easier to browse through them using Manager in thumbnail mode as you can see far more images at once than with the Organizer in Edit mode. Also I find that Organizer gets in the way in Edit mode and would much prefer to switch back and forth to the Manager as was possible in X3.
Even if this problem does not affect everyone it is still difficult to understand why Corel would insist that images in the Editor are closed before switching to Manage mode. I cannot personally think of one reason why this would be preferable. Additionally the Organizer in Edit mode does not appear to have any way of resizing the thumbnails to optimize the number viewable at any one time.

I understand you cant tag Raw Files . But tags have been put on some raw files on one particular date, the tags are incorrect tags but when i try and remve tags it says the software doesnt support it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn a seemingly random way, files occasionally just show up corrupted (thumbnail is white with an X in the center) and no longer open. Image info still shows up but the image is corrupted or lost. I do not have the Preserve feature (or whatever it's called) active, as it didn't seem to have an option to select where the preserved files are stored, and I don't want hundreds of MBs of image files to be stored by default on my small SSD C: drive, where my operating system is installed. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why these files disappear. I can not professionally trust a program that exhibits this behavior. Must I now store duplicate file sets, to be drawn from should X4 decide to corrupt my working files at random?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have paint Shop Pro X but for the files I am working on I have to use PSP 9 on XP (SP1). Trust me, after weeks writing back and forth to Corel and them testing our files it is the only way to open them. Our images are converted to .fpx using TrueSpectra which is now a relic from the past. PSP never had a problem with the .fpx files until XP service pack 2 was released and it then stopped opening them.
We have over 200,000 web images that are currently saved as fpx files (archaic I know and many of you won't have even heard of them let alone used them) that we are converting to a more adaptable and flexible pTIFF format (Pyramid TIFF). The pTIFF will allow us to include a path that can be used by Scene7 for various web functionality (movable transparent images).
, the real problem... What I am finding is that when I open some of the fpx files in Paint Shop Pro the products that are normally shown on white backgrounds are showing on black. It turns out that someone has managed to include transparency in the fpx file. I am unable to find a path, a channel mask or layers in the fpx file when opened in Paint Shop Pro. So how is what I always thought to be a flat image creating the selection that is filling with black?. Obviously, when the conversion to TIFF takes place it's rendering the image on a black background which is a problem.
I have tried un-checking "Render Transparency" under File format preferences (PostScript tab) but it made no difference.
If nothing else, is there was a way to make the black background fill in white instead. That would be fine.
I cannot edit .EMF files generated from PowerPoint 2007. I always obtain a blank image after introducing any resolution values at the input field. The same occurs with .WMF format. I need to import vectorial graphics from .PPT files with a specific resolution, and I do not see any other way to do that.
I have PaintShop Photo Pro X3 v.13.2.1.20 with last available patches and updates installed.
I downloaded PSPX4 from the Corel site where I bought it. It is in my Downloads folder instead of Program Files. Then I copied it to program files and it still isn't even in a folder called Corel. How do I get it where it should be? And, I cannot find all the folders then go with it, like tubes, brushes folders etc.

Paint shop pro 4. Patches up to date. I am unable to save files my files as .jpgs. I can save them as .psp files however. I was able to save them last week, so something has changed in my settings, but where to look. 10 years using PSP and I have to say...dislike all versions after PSP XI.

a) I have postscript (.ps) files for my company's logo which are in process color (CMYK).
b) These files open fine in PSP, and the colors are displayed properly. However, I understand that the files were actually converted to sRGB space, that is, I can't actually make changes in CMYK space, only in sRGB.
c) I need to make some changes to the logo, so I figured I would make the changes, then save a TIF file, using the CMYK space. My printer requires a CMYK file only.
d) Therefore, I simply saved the file opened in b) as a TIF file with a CMYK color space.
d) When I do the Save As in PSP, the file looks exactly like it did when first opened in PSP. (Update - if I close the TIF file in PSP, then reopen it, it does look different - greenish tinge, but not as bad as other viewers) But when I look at the file in other programs (IrfanView, MS Publisher, etc) the image is overly green, for example, my olive green logo components are almost bright green, and almost everything else seems to have a slightly greenish tint.
e) By comparison, if I open the postscript file in Irfanview, it renders correctly.
I thought Irfanview would input CMYK files (and apparently it does for .ps files) but my colors are wrong. Is this a TIF output issue with PSP? Or do I need to find another viewer to properly see the TIF file.

Sometimes after editing jpeg files in PaintShop Pro X5, attempting to save them raises an error and they can only be saved to a different file name. After closing out of PSP, the original file cannot be deleted in Windows Explorer. Shift-Delete removes the file from the list momentarily, but a refresh brings it back. Normal delete (to Recycle Bin) raises an error that admin authority is required, but clicking to proceed fails. Starting Windows Explorer as administrator does not resolve the problem. Process Explorer doesn't show PSP or any component of it that I recognize still running (and perhaps having exclusive control of the file). After a reboot, the file can be deleted. I have observed this problem on both machines where the software is loaded and registered. Both machines are malware-free. Both are running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Could very well be a Windows problem, but I don't have a similar problem with files that are created or modified with any other application.

The raster layers from the PSD file come through fine.
As part of my new year plans I'm busy sorting through shots I took last year on my Canon EOS 550D.
I took many shots in both JPEG and RAW format (same shot in each).
The JPEG images display and can be edited perfectly well in X3 but not the RAW files.
In the Organiser all shots (JPEG and RAW) look fine along the bottom strip.
But when I select a RAW file it displays momentarily in the main view as a slightly fuzzy image and then jumps to an elongated, vivid red & black image. Looking more closely X3 is cropping and NOT displaying three quarters of the right hand side of the shot. I just get a thin strip from the left hand side of the original shot.
A double click in Organiser takes me to the Camera RAW Lab where I get the same thin strip, red & black image.
