Why is a dwg opening with layers looking all white on one pc but open up with colored layers on another pc?
Whenever i open certain drawings on my laptop the layers show normal colors, but when a client opens up the same drawing, they only see the graphics in white.
Trouble with embedded OLE DWG objects in word 2010 not opening with AutoCAD 2012
We have a user that can't open some OLE DWG files from within a word document. He had 2010 AutoCAD LT on his machine for a while then was upgraded to 2012 AutoCAD (non LT) once that was there LT 2010 was unistalled. since then he has not been able to open certain embedded OLE files within Word. Other users that have other ever had AutoCAD 2012 have no issue opening this embedded DWG files.
i found this thread (URL....) which sounds exactly what is going on with my enduser. But the fix provided is for AutoCad 2000-2012 not the LT versions.
We use AutoCad to name our dxf files for our Burn Table and whenever we get a new part it is a repetitive task to input layers and common text. So what I am curious is can AutoCAD input the layers and text automatically using a Macro?
I want the Macro to put in 6 layers and choose the layer color and title then input text boxes with word in 3 different layers. There will be about a total of 10 different text boxes with text already put in the boxes by the Macro.
I am currently updating and coming up with a better system for are plant layout file for AutoCAD. When this project is complete, it will be set up so if someone needs to make a change they can just make a copy of the X-Ref file for the area they will be updating and hand it back in when there done. I will review the updated X-Ref then switch out the old X-Ref file for the updated one.
Problem: the problem I am having is when I am in the master drawing that contains all the X-Ref files, the layers list becomes enormous. There are about 30 to 40 different X-Ref files with 15 layers each. Those 15 layers contain the exact same information but you have to edit them individually.
Question: Is there a way to make the 15 layers in the master effect the corresponding layer in all the X-ref files? For instance, you hide the “Machines” layer in the master and it hides the “Machines” layer in all the X-ref.
Side Note: If you were going to make the suggestion “use Xbind” I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work well because “Xbind” creates a new layer you have to assign to things instead of making the layers relate to one another.
I've recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2012 and CADS RC 2012 and a really annoying thing has starting happening! Every time I open a new drawing or an existing one, all the layers are automatically set to 'no plot' so print previews come up completely blank every time! I then need to manually go through all the layers setting them to plot or no plot as required!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI don't have this problem on all my files, only a select few. When i save a file and reopen, all the viewports in which I have frozen layers are all reset. All layers are turned back on and I have to go through every viewport and refreeze layers. This problem has persisted long enough that I unfortunately know when I close a file I will have to reorganize the layers next time I open the file. Is this a setting issue or this a bug in the file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got this weird error on Civil 2012, I have been working with Civil products for a few years now and have never had this happen till today. Other co-workers have had the same problem which only started to occur yesterday.
The Error; Was working on a drawing with multiple layers, surfaces, alignments, assemblies, corridors, and of course point groups. The screen froze for about 2 seconds when I was attempting to hatch an object, after the quick freeze all my layers (each assigned different colors) turned on (visible) and changed color to white. Everything on the drawing became inactive except for the save button and the close button. So I saved it and closed the drawing, I had other drawings open at the same time and these were never affected (still had color and could work on them). Since the save button was still working I never lost any work that I had completed but it is still annoying having to close and open the drawing since larger drawings can take a few min to open.
Is this an Autocad issue or is it something with our machines/network?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just built a new PC and re-installed my Adobe CS4 Master Collection. When I first opened Photoshop, the default white background was a Yellow colour. Eventually I worked out that it was to do with colour profiles and selected a profile associated with my monitor (Samsung Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM). This turned the Yellow back to white and all was good. Now I am trying to edit some product photography sent by a supplier and though the images look fine in the windows thumbnail, when I load it into PS, the white background of the image is yellow. On closer inspection, if I preview the original files in Windows, I see the Yellow backgrounds. The Yellow background also stays if I save the file and then will show on the thumbnail as yellow.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been given a new lap top plus the updated AutoCAD rev. 2012.Supposedly it is superior to my old laptop but... it runs slower, the mouse action is awful, it's like stirring cold porridge.
Anyway, I have spent the first week battling with various bits, trying to get it to look & feel like my previous laptop using 2010.
The big issue I have is upon start up. Rather than loading the standard AutoCAD "drawing 1" regardless, I want to have the browser open up so I can select the' previous drawings loaded on my last session or select a new drawing or browse folders to find the drawing I want.
how I managed to switch this on, back when I managed it on 2010 version.I have given up on running up & down the menus.

Not sure what info you may need I'm running windows 7 with autocad 2010. I also have autocad 2005 loaded on the same machine and this box does not appear when opening drawings with it.
We are running LT 2010. I have one drawing that crashes Autocad while the drawing is trying to open. The drawing is about 13 Meg. The crash occurs when it gets to the regen step. The program does not continue and it is necessary to go to the Task Manager. Autocad shows as not responding. Performance shows 50 - 100% CPU usage. The task must be ended. CPU usage drops to < 10%. The recovery utilities say that everything is OK and make no difference. It is doing the same thing on another PC. About 10 Meg of the file is one block. I can open that block separately without a problem.

I have AutoCAD Civil 2013 and AutoCAD 2010 installed on my Windows 7 system.
Whenever I double click on a *.dwg file Windows starts up Civil instead of AutoCAD 2010 to open the file. Even if I already have AutoCAD 2010 running.
I went into the Control Panel Associations and attempted to Associate a file type with a specific program. When I pcik the *.dwg file extension the only option that Windows gives me is "AutoCAD Application". I even browsed to the AutoCAD 2010 directory and manually chose acad.exe but Windows just defaulted back to "AutoCAD Application".
Rscently upgraded from xp to win 8, re installed autocad 2011.
Now when I try to open a drawing from within autocad my system crashes, I get a flash of horizontal lines then two blank screens.
Tried running narrator but just get static through the speakers, I have to hit the re start button to get back in.
I can open a drawing from explorer if autocad is not allready running, autocad starts and the drawing opens with no problems. but if I try to open another drawing we crash.

I cannot open AutoCAD 2010 because there is an "Export in Progress". A window pops up that says, "The license for this product is currently being exported. You may not use a product whose license has been or is being exported. To use this product, import the license back to this computer when the export has completed."
After talking to my technical department at the office, I confirmed that no one was trying to export the license on my laptop. I'm not sure how this has happened. Did I or someone mistakenly hit export on my computer? I have never seen this before.
With this, is there a way to stop the license export process? It appears that I can resume work if the process is cancelled. Please note that I do not have admin privileges.
I am looking for creating a button that will open a PDF file (Manual). The purpose would be to have our users open our draftig procedures manual by clicking this button without the need to close autocad.

This only happens using AutoCAD, no other program has done this as of yet. I have no service packs installed and I haven't seen another post that refers to this problem. When I click on "Check for solution", nothing comes up.

Every time I start and end the Mtext command, as the dialog box opens and closes, the screen "shudders", or "jumps" a little. It is hard on my eyes.
