Sep 25, 2012i can't accurately reposition lines at 1000% zoom. even in preview mode. I tried it in cs5 and it works fine. installed an update in cs6 but still the same.

Feb 17, 2014I have a map and I;m trying to scale it accurately on an A1 sheet. I know Illustrator scales according to papper units or how the image appears on the paper. I know for instance that on A1 one line will be 8 mm long, but how to I scale the whole image according to that?

Apr 5, 2013If I draw a box in illustrator and fill it with pms 180 it's bright orange. When I do the same thing in photoshop it's red (which is much closer to the actual color). I've synched all of my color settings in bridge but that doesn't make any difference. When I copy the image from illustrator and paste it into photoshop it's still orange. And when I save it as a pdf or export it as a jpeg, it's still orange. I can make it look red in illustrator by switching to overprint preview, but that doesn't do my any good. When I send this file to my client.

Jul 10, 2013I have a document with a single layer and a single group (GroupItem) in that layer.
Unfortunately, I didn't create the .ai file, so I don't know exactly what is in the group; however, there appears to be a bunch of complex clipping masks and gradient effects, etc. deeply nested within it.
I've successfully scripted a few tasks like resizing the group with no ill effect... in other words, this works as expected:
app.activeDocument.activeLayer.pathItems[0].resize(50,50);
However, as soon as I try to move/translate/reposition the group, all the effects/masks seem to go wonky, I've tried all of the below with no success (200 is just arbitrary as a test):
app.activeDocument.activeLayer.pathItems[0].left = 200;
app.activeDocument.activeLayer.pathItems[0].translate(200,0);
I have no problem moving the group around on the document with my mouse... all the effects/masks are still nice and clean, so I'm confused as to why I can't do the same thing via JavaScript.
Illustrator :: CS5 Cannot Accurately Re-interpret Newer Version Files?
Mar 6, 2014A client has sent me files created in a version newer than CS5. When I import them and the PDF objects are re-interpreted I get an error message that, during "An unknown imaging construct was encountered." The resulting images have gradients that are extremely bandedb - though I do not know if this is atributable to the error.
The client insists that he is a highly-experienced Illustrator guru, his files are perfect and he will not change them in any way. He has also delcared that it is quite impossible (for him) to convert his artwork to TIFF files. I am able to do this with the files he has provided quite easily, and do not understand what his issue(s) might be.
Assuming that I am the weak link in the chain, what can I do to improve the quality of his images with the software - CS5 - I have?

Aug 24, 2012I'd like to scale, rotate, and/or reposition a pattern-filled Live Paint cell, without cuting the cell from the Live Paint object. Can I do that? I routinely do this in normal objects, using the "~" key trick, but this only seems to work globally, on a Live Paint object (scales all pattern fills, not just one cell).
I'm still using CS5, but am interested to know if it can be done in CS6 as well.

Photoshop :: Accurately Zooming
Mar 23, 2008Can I zoom more precisely than just by clicking with the zoom tool?
I have photographs of a medical patient. I want to accurately measure certain medical features, to see if they are getting larger or smaller over time. I figure that I can use guide lines to measure - but that would require me to have each photo starting out as the same scale, and that's why I need to be able to accurately zoom.
I suppose I could resize, but that would seem to take a very large amount of trail and error. If I can zoom arbitrarily, I believe I can use layers with top-layer alpha = 50% or so, and match any two photos to each other.
Or is there a better way altogether? It's not feasible for me to have each photo be natively as the same size/distance as every other, so I have to adjust the photos themselves.

May 16, 2012I installed CS 6 yesterday. My system runs 64 bit Win 7. In Preferences > Interface, as I did in CS 5, I unchecked both Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window. However, unlike CS 5, in CS 6 images 'insist' on positioning themselves in the upper left corner of CS 6 and will cover both the options bar and the tool bar. For example, this will happen after opening an image if I try to move it or if I enlarge the image window (CTRL-0). If I open two images and try to move one so I can see both at the same time, the one I try to move will not stay where I put it but instead will reposition itself to the upper left, and cover the options bar and menu bar.
this makes working in CS 6 difficult and inconvenient. I assume this is a bug, and wonder if there are any workarounds or other solutions. To this point, I have not yet uninstalled and re-installed CS 6.

3ds Max :: Best Way To Accurately Gauge Scene Before Rendering
Mar 12, 2012I am trying to use film of actors to match the lips for the characters. I am struggling because rendering is taking a few hours (1050 frames in scene 1) and when I get the final product I am seeing things that I need to go back and change. Scrubbing the timeline does not seem to be very accurate..... and this brings me to question 2. I am using film, brought into 3ds max as an image sequence and put as a material onto a plane in the background (then I hide it for rendering).
I am using scanline renderer, but I would have thought that quicksilver or iray would have been faster, they seem to be taking forever...
There are two characters, both have bitmap skin images and are wearing shirts using a bitmap image. The background is Alpha and that is it, there is one spotlight (I would like more but I have read that lights take lots of rendering time)
So, Question 1- Is there a better way to preview a scene - I am trying to get natural looking movement for characters and failing (I only have film of faces for lips)
Question 2- Can I improve my rendering speed?
Question 3 - Am I using reference film correctly?
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: Reposition Tile Markings?
Sep 12, 2011I have an oversized drawing that needs to print in several pages. I use the tile option and have also check the tile markings so I have a way of aligning the drawing after it's printed on a "non-commercial" printer. Trouble is, the tile markings are printing in the non-printable area of the page and I have no accurate way of taping the tiled pages together. Secondly, the original drawings aren't always printing original sizes when I create a PDF.
I'm not sure where to start looking for solutions to this issue. (I do have "none" set in my printer dialog box for its print sizing so it maintains the original settings).
Is there a way to reposition the tile markings? Is there a better way of establishing a registration for assembling the tiled pages after printing?

Sep 25, 2012I use a simple If/ElseIf code to suppress / uns uppress & reposition holes on a plate to ensure the desired number of fixing hole pairs.
The hole positions will change and suppress/unsuppress depending on the value of the Tie Rod Pitch (vertical) and the O/A length of this plate (and pressure inside the radiator but this is sorted in Excel).
For example PitchMax = 500mm, BP_2ndS= 1600mm (plate length)
If (3 * TieRodPitch_MAX_2ndS ) < BP_2ndS < (4 * TieRodPitch_MAX_2ndS) Then
...
For some reason some times the parameters don’t update in the hole and pattern features after running the rule thus they are in the wrong position or not suppressed/unsuppressed. When I rearrange the If/ElseIf codes it may work. All I change is just replace ElseIfs with If-End Ifs or the other way around...
Which does not make any sense to me, since I change nothing in the parameters or conditions. Is this code structured poorly?
p.s. this is an engine radiator and the number of tie rod pairs depend on the height of the block, pressure inside, width, etc.

Sep 24, 2013When I use the measure tool on a block I have (3rd party file) of a carpet, it measures 187.5 x 444 (units are cm).
However, we know that's not the real measurement! On our printed sets it measures differently.
When I copy-and-paste the block and EXPLODE it a bunch of times, only THEN does it measure accurately (187.5 x 360).
How can I get it to measure accurately from the beginning?

Dec 15, 2011I'm printing to an Epson 9900 using Lightroom 3.6.
I want to print an array of 4 x 6 images. The prints come out 3.5 x 5.25. Attempting to print a 5 x 7 produces and image reduced by the same scaling.
I also tried with Photoshop CS5, printing just a single 4 x 6 and that also came out strangely.
This is on a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Photoshop :: Making A Selection Using CTRL+Click Layer Accurately
Feb 27, 2012For some reason when I make a selection using CTRL+Click it never fully matches the cutout of the layer I am mimicking. There is always trim. I've posted a picture to best describe what is happening.

I've made a cutout using the background eraser. Because of this you can see how the cutout appears to be somewhat transparent around the edge.

When placed on 50% gray the hair trim is as detailed as I wanted. It's a satisfying result.

I now make a selected of this semi transparent cutout by cimply CTRL+Clicking the layer.

I now duplicate the original (not cutout) and use this selection to cutout again (don't ask why) but the cutout doesn't match 100%. It's close, but it simply doesn't match. I've also tried using this selection to make a mask on the non cutout image and the edge is exactly the same.
I thought some auto anti-alias may be turned on but I can't seem to find anything. I really need a duplicate of this cutout to match precisely.
