CorelDRAW X4 :: Break Apart Outline Design Into Individual Pieces?
Dec 9, 2011I need to be able to take a design that is in outline format such as this for an example:

Converting it to an outline is really easy and I have no problems with that. However, I need each individual piece of the design to be separated out as an individual object as certain pieces would get cut out of different materials.
What is the easiest way to convert this design from one big outline design, to individual components?

I have a vector art file of puzzle pieces (connected as though the puzzle has been assembled) that I would like to use with an image file. If I wanted the entire image to appear finished, I would simply place this vector layer above the image layer and voila...finished puzzle. However, I would like to use the 3D effects in Illustrator to make it appear that some of the pieces are not yet seated into place. I know how to do this with the puzzle vector art, but how do I attach or clip the image layer to it so that it rotates, bevels, etc. with the individual puzzle pieces I want to treat in this manner?

Aug 2, 2013I've got a large file that is about 72x54. I want to cut it up into pieces that are about 24x18 and print it pieces that I will tile together as a whole image after I print them. Is there a way to save out my file as 24x18 pieces?

Oct 11, 2012I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 in Windows 7. I'm trying to type-set a file and some of the lines of text aren't regularly editable. When selecting a letter it's chopped up in to a bunch of smaller images, thus rendering it impossible to change the font. The customer wants the title on their business card to be un-bolded and I am unable to edit the title. How can I release the type back to an editable form?

Changing te macro for break ^C^C_break to the macro for break at point ^C^C_break \_f @ doesn't work.
To do it manualy at the command prompt takes to much keyboard entries and mouse clicking.

Jun 13, 2012I am working in Illustrator CS4, and finished a 2-sided mailer/postcard for a client in cmyk. After emailing the final PDF to the client, the client responded back to me with their print provider's request for— "native file, with black and PMS broken out".
First—the file was set up as CMYK, so I am assuming it was partly a lazy response/request? (not realizing it was set up as CMYK).
Second—I typically I send files to commercial print providers as a PDF (Press Quality or PDF/X:1a)—is this not sufficient for them—and why?
Lastly, I would specifically like to know what steps I should take to prepare CMYK colors "broken out".
Illustrator :: Fast Way To Break ALL Kinks In FXG File?
Sep 24, 2012I sometimes need to export artwork from Flash, then edit it in Illustrator or simply save it as an .ai file for other people to use. I used to simply export an .eps file from Flash which worked perfectly asided from sometimes needed to readjust transparencies. However in CS5 I only have the FXG option - this makes editing artwork a long drawn out process of selecting movie clips and clicking "break link" then doing the same for the contents of that movie clip. Using "select all" on the artboard will not give me the break link option if anything other than a movie clip is selected.

Illustrator :: Any Way For A Symbol To Break Into Group And Not Sublayer?
May 31, 2013In cs6 when I break a link to a symbol, the symbol group becomes a sublayer and the layers panel gets expanded showing all the objects in that layer. I then have to collapse the menu. every time I select any object that was part of the symbol, my layers panel expands. this is very frustrating. so avoided it, when I break a symbol, I have to select the objects from the menu panel and move them out of the sublayer. this is not very fun to do when I have a lot of symbols to deal with.
so is this a new behavior in cs6, is there a way for a symbol to break into a group and not a sublayer (ithink that's what's happening not sure)?

1) That is, how do I use Javascript to break the link between a SymbolItem and the Symbol it represents? (i.e. without deleting the Symbol?)
2) Once the link is broken, how do I locate the Layer that was created when the link was broken? That is, once the link is broken, it is no longer a SymbolItem; it becomes a Layer instead. How do I locate that Layer?
3) How do I convert the Layer to a GroupItem?
Illustrator :: Why Does Eraser Break Calligraphic Strokes
Dec 30, 2012When creating strokes with the calligraphic brush (using an Intuos5), I noticed that the eraser tool breaks the stroke thickness when apllied to the calligraphic stroke. The entire stroke defaults to an undesired,uniform thickness.

So why does this happen? Is there some way to prevent the eraser from destroying the stroke thickness?

Oct 3, 2012I want to add some textures to the backgrounds of some artwork and make them fade out over the distance of a shape.
1. First, are patterns that ship with AI considered textures? Like the one I'm using in the attached example?
2. How can I take any pattern/texture and make it fade out over part of the image like in the example image? I did this in Fireworks using the Auto vector tool but I want to be able to do it in AI.

May 24, 2013I'm relatively new to using illustrator and im trying to change the dpi of a drawing. One of my frinds made a T-shirt design in a non adobe software program, forget it know, and accidentally draw it at a 100 dpi file and looks blured when changed to a 185x185 pixel size. Can I take that file and change it to 300 dpi?

Document Raster Effects>
and select dpi quality
I've already done that and it doesn't look like it did anything. Does it need to be redrawn?

Dec 15, 2013I have a problem with drawing small circles in Illustrator, because when I export them they are not "smooth". The edges seem like truncated. Have a look here with "Pixel preview" turned on:
And now, setting an offset of +0.5px for X and Y, the circle is how I want it to be:
Why? Is there a way to "smooth" the circle?
Illustrator :: CS6 Lagging With Many Small Objects
Jul 6, 2013I am running Illustrator CS6, and I have found that Illustrator lags a lot when I have multiple objects that are very small. For example, for my school project I am creating four seasons, and I have multiple leaves on the trees, but since they are very small and I have multiple copies it slows Illustrator down siginificantly. What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to reduce the quality of the artwork, so that It can run fast when I need it to. Below is a link to download the file, so you can see what I mean. Right now it lags when you zoom In/Out or if you try and move the object. Also, my computer Specs are listed below

Illustrator :: CS6 - Opens In Window Too Small?
Nov 26, 2012Anytime I double-click on an Illustrator file to open it, the Illustrator CS6 window opens up too small to view the file. It comes up with an error message that says "Can't open the illustration. There is not enough room for the window; increase document area and try again."
If I then click on the box to expand the Illustrator window to full-size, then I can open the file. It's just frustrating that everytime I try to open an AI file by double-clicking on it, I get this error message.

Oct 23, 2012I created a logo in ai cs5 that is the size of 7w x 4h. But I wanted to be able to create a larger jpg. Since the vector format allows for the image to be scaled, is there a way to scale it larger, then create a jpg at this larger size? Or, is there a way to scale it to 500% and then save it as a new file with this enlarged size being 100%? I'm fairly new to AI, but have used PS for quite some time.

Feb 19, 2013removal of small objects in a drawing. I made with ArcGIS a map of the Netherlands. Because it is a detailed map, it also becomes heavy and my computer slows down. I merged some smll elements together with the pathfinder-unite command, but it is still to heavy. So I have to delete some other elements. The problem is that I want to get rid of all the small objects, but I dont know how to select them. It is a topograpic map with for example houses, lamp post et cetera, but I actuallly need only the build areas.

I want to try just putting a small stroke that goes around the outside of the drawing, however when I do select all and apply the stroke, it obviously strokes the inner parts of the drawing (for instance the mouth, eyes, dimples, etc). I've tried merging all of the layers, but it doesn't work.

Mar 23, 2012I am having a very unusual problem when saving from Illustrator CS5.5 to our SBS2011 server. All other components of Design Standard are unaffected.
Suppose that I am working on Version 10 of file and go to SAVE AS > Version 11. Illustrator will often return the error “The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder” even though I have permission to write to that directory.
When I check the directory the file Version 11 has been created but contains 0kb of data. If I then attempt to over-write Version 11 via SAVE AS it works perfectly, everytime.
This behavior is also present on another - identical – workstation using the same software. The systems affected are both running Windows 7 64bit.

Feb 23, 2014I have created a basic document in illstrator CC, and when I try to 'Save for Web' the image opens in the save for web panel extremely small, although says it is 100%, and it is pixellated. I'm using a brand new MacBook pro.
