Illustrator :: Printing To Epsom Inkjet - Color Image Converting To Greyscale
Aug 6, 2013
I'm trying to print colour to my epsom inkjet but for some reason Illustrator keeps converting my colour image to greyscale.
Now I've been using Illustrator for years and this is a new problem I've not come across before. Is there something I can do to stop it doing it - maybe there's a setting that has accidentally switched on that converts all to greyscale.
If not then I suppose I'll have to revert to "turning it on and off again"!

Will Illustrator CS5 files print on a standard inkjet printer or is some sort of RIP software required? I'm considering an Epson WF-7520.

So... what I want to do is give every player a yellow-red shirt. What I did with the palyer on the right: I just re-brushed the red and yellow on a new layer above the shirt and set the layer-style on "color" and the opacity around 80%. So far so good...
Then I wanted to do the same for the other players... But I just can't get it right. Ofcourse the problem is that the greyscale-values behind the color-layer are different every time.

I have a problem printing bitmap images on CorelDRAW documents in my work computer (Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit). I have a HP 3535 inkjet printer, and It was prinitng normally for some time, but one day the printer suddenly stopped printing images from the CorelDRAW documents and only prints text and vector images. The same happens in Photo-Paint, it simply prints in blank.
I Tried to restore the program to default settings using the F8 command with no luck. This really annoying and I need to print bitmaps for my work. This happens in all my documents...

Sometimes when I have an object selected and I go to select a fill color for it, the object turns a corresponding shade of grey, even though I'm selecting a color from the color picker.
Other objects on the artboard have color, so it doesn't seem to be a global setting....

Is there a way to export a document @ a different resolution than 72DPI? I know I can set the horizontal/vertical scale to save it at a larger dimension at 72DPI, but I need the file to be actual size and 300DPI.
This is part of a larger process, and I'd prefer to do the entire process from Illustrator, and not have to open the files in Photoshop to change the size/resolution.
Also, is it possible to change the color mode to CMYK or Greyscale for the exported Jpeg?

Every time I convert an image/psd/tif to greyscale inside photoshop or in ACR my levels sliders and curves are inverted such that whites are on the left and blacks are on the right and everything is upside down (raising the curve on the black side lowers the blacks, lowering curve on white side raises the whites etc). This never happened to me before but happens every time now, I'm not sure what button I've hit to make photoshop do this.

Whenever I use this to convert a colour image (or even a black and white one) to greyscale, the image takes a leap in brightness (gamma?), despite the Preview showing otherwise. I've used the default (set at 15% dot gain), even taken the sliders down to -200%, it makes no difference. How do I maintain the brightness when converting?

I've been printing out a lot of black and white photos on photopaper on a HP Photosmart 7510e.
The printouts are very dark so I've had to boost the brightness levelsin GIMP prior to printing. The problem is that this takes extra timeand I also don't want to save these levels in the XCF file. I would say that (going by the Gamma Display Filter) the printouts are around40% of the brightness they ought to be.

I have multiple files that I am converting to PDF files to print and all of them converted fine except one. When I convert it to a PDF half of the color changes to black. I can't figure it out and I feel like I've tried everything! And this is what it looks like when I convert it to a PDF.

I'm attempting to convert the following Image to vector using Illustrator CS6: URL.....
I've been messing around with Live trace for a few days, but every time I try to convert it to Vector, it destroys my gradient, and converts my Pantone to CMYK.
URLs.....What I need to do, is convert to vector while keeping the gradient, and pantone colors in the graphic to prepare for screen printing. Before anyone says "you don't need to use vector for screen printing". We run Corel X4 on our transparency machine, so I need to convert to vector, and keep the halftones fine, as well as keep the pantone color book.It doesn't need to be a "quick" way to do it...it just needs to be done.

I have a picture, and I want it to move smoothly from full color to full grey scale.
When I combine to pictures, I add a layer mask, and use a gradient to make the opacity move smootly from 100% to 0%
Can I use the same technique, with a gradient, to smoothly remove color from one side of a picture?

I'm having trouble getting an image successfully into my vinyl cutting program. I open a black and white image into illustrator, I trace it, I paint a few more black lines that I need and then save it into svg or pdf. Once I import the image into my software it show all the brush strokes that I painted making it impossible to cut. Is there a way to make the image in illustrator all one image once painting it and making it decal cuttable?

new to illustrator and im trying to convert a digitally generated pdf. into a vector format/file without the pixel data. I have drawn up a logo/font (in autocad as thats what i know) and made a pdf from it to send to a printing company that only deals in vector format. i can import the image and get a trace of it but the frames add radii to corners and im having trouble isolating the vector/trace result to make a seperate file from (to send off)
so, its there an easier way to get a vector file from my pdf image

I've created a logo, and I'd like to use it in some PDF documents. I've tried several different methods for converting it into an image, but the image quality really degrades when I do. Maybe I'm expecting too much - since the vector image is essentially perfect - but it seems like there should be a way to come up with a decent looking image. Is there a "best practice" for this process?

I am having trouble colorizing a greyscale image. I actually did manage to do it earlier but can't remember how I did it. See attached the greyscale original image and the colorized pink image that I had created earlier. I tried inverting and colorizing but I can't seem to find the right setting. I also tried to create a pink layer and change the blend mode to color.

When I print RGB documents from AI CS6 (and earlier ai versions as well) to an Epson Photo 2200, the color is wrong. In order to print decent color, I must copy the ai files to Photoshop (at 300+ dpi) and print from there. Only then is the color good (as expected). I am using Adobe RGB (1998) as my document color space, and being very careful to allow ai/ps to manage color, matching the driver with the proper print speed, stock, etc, using Epson's paper-specific ICC profiles for each print.
What is it about the way ai sends color to a printer that is so "wrong?"

I have a group of several objects – text box; rule line and some colored rectangles that act as jigs for someone to develop a layout. I do not want the jigs to print. Is there a way to suppress printing for just certain objects or make certain colors non-printing? Note: Non-printing layers will not work because the grouped objects puts everything on the same layer and I need the text and rule lines to print.

I own a textile screen printing business. Sometimes I vectorise photos or images into greyscale. This gives nice halftone images, once I output to my printer through my RIP, (I use Accurip). This allows us to reproduce some great images with 1 ink colour. The great thing is that we can output the greyscale image, then use any ink colour we choose on the printing press to actually print the image. If we output greyscale, we can use scarlet ink to give us all shades of scarlets and pinks if we print onto a white shirt, for example. No problem there.
However, greyscale is essentially based on a black ink, with variable transparency. When I want to do a mockup for the customer of what the image would look like with a different base/ink colour other than black, (and the variable opacities of black that form the swatch pallette), I'd like to show the image using the actual base pantone spot colour we will use. That way, the customer can see how the variences in ink transparency will look on any shirt base colour that we choose to put in a layer behind the image. Right now, we can only show what it looks like if we choose black ink.
So..... once I have a vector in greyscale, how can I recolourise all the various opacities (of black), to various opacities of...say, Red?
If I try any kind of overlay or hue / saturation changes in photoshop, the base black colour is still present, and doesn't accurately represent what would print on a white shirt.

Is it possible to set the grayslide color picking slider to go to full black? The reason I would like to do this is because:
1. The slider (or another workflow) should offer a fast way to select a grayscale color.
2. In CS6 there is no other fast way to select an arbitrary grayscale color. The other other way to select an arbitrary desaturated color is to create a color swatch by selecting it through the Photoshop-style color picking dialog accessible by double clicking the color display in the Tools window.
3. It is not possible to slide across a selection of gray scale values in the RGB color picker in the Color Window. Which would be preferable in general as this would unify and retain the workflow of selecting an arbitrary grayscale value within the RGB selection of the Color Window.

I'm trying to apply an along stroke gradient to a stroke made with an artistic watercolor brush that comes with the program. Whenever I try to do this the gradient comes out greyscale. In the gradient window it will show as the colors I've chosen (ex. white -> orange), but when I draw the stroke it comes out greyscale regardless. If I draw the stroke with a different brush, like a regular round brush, it works perfectly fine. It seems to be doing this with all "artistic" brushes.
Is there a link there between artistic brushes and greyscale? Am I just doing something very wrong?
I'm running the trail version, does it have something to do with that?
