Are there any tutorials (a video, or with images) or any good book or readings on how to create a package design (packaging) with illustrator from start to finish? (From the beginning creating the dielines to the end product of a finished package, mockup examples.)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a designer that created this beautiful (but complicated) design in illustrator and now we're trying to get it exported to html. The thing is, most of the images that are in tds we want to be background images so that we can put stuff on top of it. So we need the exported html to generate the image size correctly. For example, I don't want
<img src="someimage.jpg" width="100" height="100"...
but
<img src="someimage.jpg">
The problem is that illustrator for whatever reason is generating the images slightly too small (I guess to make the image size smaller?), then is stretching them using width and height attributes. As I'm sure you guys are aware of, the background attribute has no way of specifying a width and height.
Illustrator does not have file>package on my MacBook Pro. Running from the cloud on a New 30 inch iMac and the latest 13 inch MacBook Pro. It has it on the iMac? Both are up to date.
View 11 Replies View Relatedi purchased a symbol package online and it came with these instructions URL... that i followed to a T. the problem.,. well the symbols and the brushes do not show in library for me to use. the package name showed in the library.. but when i click on it, the list is empty. how can i get them to show in the library permanently.
by the way, when i open the downloaded package using Ai, the symbols are there and i am able to open them no problem. but i can't get them to populate in the brushes, symbols library.
How do I package a finished project to a client. She insisted on having three name logotypes with different effects and three monogram logotypes with different effects. The finished name logotypes are on one artboard/file, and the finished monogram logotypes are on another artboard/file.

View 17 Replies View RelatedTrying to make an internal gear with design generator. I fill in appropriate info, click the 'internal' check box and when I generate I still get an external gear (using component).
Tried creating a part with the proper bore (root) diameter first and use feature...it wipes out my part and creates and external gear with virtually no bore.
How can I make sure the annotated surface labels spot elevations from my 3d design drawing which is being xrefed into a new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet plots screened?
The Label Style which I created for the annotated surface label spot elevations has all its properties set to be ByLayer for example its color and lineweight. The Layer I assigned the Label Style was assigned to a layer with a color and plot style that should plot any object screened. Color 8 and Plot Style Screened.
What other steps am I missing to assure myself that this Label Style will plot screened in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet?
I also made sure that the xref drawing in which this Surface spot elevation has the correct colors and lineweights and Plot Styles in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet.

I want to make a block to automate the design of typical cross-bracing connection plates relative to the angle of the x-brace. Since the angle varies from one structure to another, I need a quick way to draw these.
Make a dynamic block that would locate to the intersection of the beam and the x-brace. Then I'd adjust a "rotating reference line" from the block to align with the x-brace and then offset the plate edge to mate with the beam web. Sounds easy, but...
The parts that I need dynamic are:
1) the edge of the plate that mates to the beam web (since different beams have differing web thicknesses - this needs to be adjustable).
2) the edge of the beam flange (to make the line type hidden below the beam flange)
3) the rotation of the reference line to align with the cross brace line (so the holes are properly aligned)
I was originally trying to achieve this with a rotate parameter, but had no luck. So I just thought of replacing the rotate parameter with a polar stretch parameter and it's the closest I've been to resolving the problem, but there's still a funny quirk. When I align the reference line in the block to the cross brace angle, the two other adjustments (web and flange locators) rotate too and become skewed. How can I keep those other two beam adjustments horizontal?
I am going to designig outlines icons for web design purposes in Illustrator. Struggling with shape. I need perfect racatngle rounded egdes shape (4 edges) I am using guides to make it perfect but pen tool I use for it is not snaping to these guides, how to snap it? I tried:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to Illustrator, although since I'm pretty good at Photoshop (I have used it exclusively for graphic design for 10 years) I have been picking up Illustrator fairly quickly. I created a design but would like to put a white stroke on everything so that it will look good on both dark and light colored shirts, but I can't figure out how to do this. It's SO simple in Photoshop, but I need the vector capabilities of Illustrator more and more these days so I really need to learn how in Illustrator.
All of my objects are in separate layers so I have tried to combine them and merge them to create a new stroke around them but all this does is group them and still create new strokes on each individual object. How do I literally MERGE them as they are (front object stays in front, back object stays in back, and they retain their coloring) so that I can put a white stroke around them?
I'm having an issue with the save feature in Illustrator CS5.5 (15.1.0 for mac). Typically when making changes to design files, we will save the Illustrator file first, then save as a PDF proof to send to the client. Our issue is that the file appears to save correctly, but when opening the Illustrator document a few days later, we find that only SOME of the changes were saved. Now keep in mind that I've only saved the document once, why would only a few changes save from one single save point?
On top of this, our PDFs come out without any problems, and all changes save just fine.
This is a major issue for us, as we need to be able to trust that ALL previous changes save, as we use the Illustrator document to create subsequent versions. We don't have the time to check through every minute detail to make sure that the file saved properly. This should be a very basic function of the program, yet it is creating big time headaches for us.
Could it be that we are saving as PDF first, then as AI? Would that somehow affect the ability of Illustrator to save properly?
When using a DVD/CD template to do a design to print onto a DVD/CD even though the template shows the circular shapes of both the outer circumfrance and the central hole etc if I paste a square design onto the circular template the design is not restricted to the printable area of the DVD. How do I achive a design that is just printed onto the printable are of the disk?

Then in Inventor I create a 2D sketch and click the ACAD button to import it. It works, but not in the way that I want. Only the outline shows up. I want a solid face that I can extrude and work with.

I need to design a dvd label for a client and they want to be able to make edits to it after I design it. Is there a way I can design it in illustrator.. save as an interactive pdf and then they can edit it with acrobat? I know with acrobat you can make edits to type but can you make edits to colors, photos, etc? Any other application that they would be able to use without having adobe?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI worked on a design saving it about every 10 minites and also saving a copy every hour. Later, when I try to open any of the copies of this file, Illustrator gives me this error:
the file opens but most of the objects are gone. I managed to open the file with Adobe Accrobat and saved it as eps then open it in Illustrator but the paths are mess and all effects converted to embeded images.I also placed the file but if I try to edit the link it gives me the same error and when I embedded the link it was a little bit better but similar mess like the eps saved from Acrobat..I'm using Illustrator CS5 Design file Windows 7.
I recently upgraded my Mac OS to 10.7.5 from 10.7.4. I also upgraded Java from SE6 to 7. Now my cs4 design suite will not open. I click on the Illustrator alias but nothing happens. I get the Rainbow Pinwheel that spins for 2 seconds and then stops. This also happens when I try using Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver. I've also tried opening using the .app file in the applications folder, but the same thing happens.
A side note: I tried to revert back to Java 6 with no luck. and I do not have a back up of my OS to revert back to 10.7.4. Everything was working great prior to the upgrades.
I am designing a business card in illustrator cs4.
I want to put a jpg image in a business card design. Do I need to live trace the image if I am not going to enlarge it.
On the contrary I am going to need to scale it down to fit the 3.5 x 2 in business card size.
I work on Mac and would like to print a design over multiple pages. The recurring problem however is that the printed sheets have a thin unprinted, blank border. I've tried various options in the print dialogue box, including all the borderless page setup options. This 2mm border keeps appearing in my prints. This is for silkscreening, so even though its only a 2mm border, this gap prevents me from putting all the printed sheets together as one design. The design, via the print dialogue box, is being saved as a PostScript file due to doing colour separations.

I've tried several different methods for converting it into an image, but the image quality really degrades when I do. Maybe I'm expecting too much - since the vector image is essentially perfect - but it seems like there should be a way to come up with a decent looking image. Is there a "best practice" for this process?
