Illustrator :: How To Create A Map That Has Proportional Curves
Jul 8, 2013
I need to create a map, connecting different parts of the world, with curved lines that have a specific thickness when compared to each other, similar to this print screen: [URL] ....
How should I go about doing it? I am completely new to Adobe Illustrator, and I am using the mac Version.

Am I the only one who has edited a stroke with the stroke width tool, then outlined the stroke only to find a countless number of points and noticeably unsmooth edges? Is there a setting or certain way to ensure that the stroke width tool won't corrupt the smoothness of my shapes? The stroke width tool is the most handy new feature I can imagine, but this problem makes it almost entirely useless, unless designing something where precision and smoothness are not important.

Draw a box. Draw a Guideline. Have all snaps on. Including "smart Guides".
Â
Drag proportionally (by holding down SHIFT) the size of the box... and it won't snap to the Guides.Â
Â
How can proportional scaling be down by dragging, and have Guides and other nodes, vertices, anchors, "smart Guides" etc actually functional as Snap positions?
Â
Or Adobe figure there's no need for accuracy when proportionaly scaling?

This may look like a simple effect to the pros, but im no sure how to achieve it in PS. Im designing a web page and i like designs with flowing curves ( I think it looks cool & modern looking) but Im not sure how to make these effects in PS. To give you an example of what i like, look at these example of sites (especially the first 2 pages)
How can I make beautiful curves with nice colours like these?

I want to create a node on the intersection of two curves (eg bezier curves). Of course I can zoom in and try to be as near as possible, but it won't be exactly. Is it possible to exactly find the intersection?

After doing everything i can find to optimize my hardware/software for doing 3D animation in Ps Ext CS6. I still cannot render an animation to video using the Ray Traced Final setting. (Ray Traced Draft, no problem.) The last time I tried (after repairing disk permissions), at least Ps did not crash and give me the same old crash report (Exception Type:Â EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000007a0020000). This time I just got an error msg that my request could not be completed. (Progress?) Checking Activity Monitor, I could see that my available RAM, which was 13 GB when I started the render was now less than 1 GB (761 MB).
Â
So, I have come to the conclusion that my 16 GB of RAM and 300 GB available for virtual memory on my HD is not enough for rendering the type of 3D animation I am trying to do. Would you agree? Also, I have read it is not good to use the same HD your program is installed on for a scratch disk, so I am considering getting an external solid state drive to use as a scratch disk.

I created a 2D planar sketch, now I need to create a 3D sketch and Helical curves, but as I enter into the 3D sketch mode, I cannot perform any functions, all my tool bar options are grayed out?
I am running 2014 Pro Design Suite.

I want to create a 3d ployline from a 2d polyline with curves. When I use the convert 2d polyline to 3d polyline command it places a bunch of vertices along the curve so when I go to place elevations on the vertices it takes too long. I want to be able to give an elevation at the pc and pt and have it place elevations along the curve from this info like it does on the stright lines.

i have been using the drivenTime node to create walkcycles that follow motion path curves where the out time is connected to some attribute via a unitToTimeCOnversion node.in previous version of Maya.
When i try to connect anything to the Out Time of new drivenTime node the connection never works, not even keyframes?
is there a fix or workaround for this?

I am preparing a batch of images for test submission, for a stock photo library.Recently a person working for one of the visual effects studios in London happened to tell me that these strict agencies use some set of layers that can separate tonality and color values to check for banding, dirtiness, noise and all those technical flaws that the human eye can't notice on a monitor. He said they perhaps have an action for it so that they can review faster.
He said that it is known as 'Craze Curves' or 'Visibility Curves' technique. He further added that all the studios use it before giving the final files to clients so that there is no issue in printing afterwards. It is sort of a quality control check and has been used by digital and advertising agencies all over the world.
But now his email seems to have changed and I can't get in touch with him to know how to use the technique.

The ruler scale isn't proportional on my screen for the height and width. The canvas size is only 3 x 5, so I don't think it's because the file is too big. The file looks great on screen, but when I print it out the image proportions I see on the screen aren't the same as the print out. When I look at the ruler, an inch is much longer on the height than it is on the width. I'm viewing in Print Mode, but have also tried fit on screen and actual pixels (which makes it too big to see, of course). I tried resetting all tools, but no luck.

In digital scrapping, you usually create an inner and outer mat for a photo. I select the photo layer, then edit>transform and click the lock button and set the option to 105%. After I create both inner and outer mats, the heighth and width proportion does not seem like it is exactly 105% on all edges.
I did not apply any drop shadows because I thought perhaps that was fooling the eye.

A customer of mine runs PS CS4 and when they free transform proportionally (holding down Shift while resizing a corner of an image), the image does not snap to any cyan guide lines. If they just drag a side of the image, however, it snaps to the guide with no problem.

I'm work ing illustrator CS6. My bezier curves are displaying jaggedly. My document raster settings are set to 300. Pixel preview is not on, and overprint preview doesn't change it.
Â
This image is a screenshot of how it displays in illustrator. and here is the same file with a gray background as a high quality PDF.

when using my own brushes in Illustrator (which aren't very complictated, just "pressure-sensitive" as you can see in the example)...Illustrator fills the curves automatically.
Not, when I'm drawing large format, but once in a while I have to draw small vignettes or want to reduce the size. Small means: about a centimeter.
Â
First I thought it might be a problem with the wacom tablet I got, but the support convinced me, that it had to be a problem with the software... I had the same problem already with CS3 and 4, now again with CS6.

My question is this, how do i or can i make four separate proportional images of the one big one for print of on A4, so it would be four quarters re assembled as the one big original?

when I draw an object (let's say a line that's 10 inches long) and paste it into corel the size varies based on how much I'm zoomed in.
fwiw I'm using 'paste special' and using picture (metafile) this way I can keep the points. if I just paste as autocad I loose the points, and an arc might become a rectangle as far as points go...
I tried DWG and DXF and it's the same problem. metafile lets me keep the edges and such for nodes at least. I'm having the issue primarily with DesignCAD and AutoCAD

I need to resize the canvas for some custom work. All I can accomplish is to resize the canvas and then do a crop and paste to the correct size. Why is the canvas resize locked into proportional sizing only?
Is there another setting I could change? The added steps of cropping and pasting to get to the right canvas size is a hassle.

Having just entered the world of illustrator (cs6) I'm finding trying to get smooth curves to do what you want is a highly confusing operation.Being a fairly competant user of Photoshop the same task can be acheived relatively easily by way drawing paths with the pen tool and simply adding anchor points to drag out the desired shape. This buisness of dragging out handles in order to create curves in illustrator is crazy, I just can't seem to get the curves to behave how I want them to, I've watched probably 20 tutorials on this now and all demonstrate the same technique for creating curves, is there a more straight forward, simple way to achieve precise smooth curves similar to PS?

Embedding substitutes fonts with OK button on prompt at best. Flattener forces a rasterize when trying to keep proper colors. Don't see many options beyond importing twice with both methods, then removing elements that don't work from each.

I created the pepper with the mesh tool and also rendered it with the gradient mesh, now my instructor says that I need to have really smooth curves but I have way too many anchor points so I don't know how to fix the curves.

I'm trying to take a shape from illustrator and have the iOS graphics engine draw it without having to import the file. In order to do this, I need to somehow get a text break down of all the bezier paths / curves / points that comprise the shape so I can tell the iOS graphics engine the points that need to be drawn. Is there anyway to get a list of these points from illustrator?
