View 4 RepliesSo when I create a triangle by using the star shape tool and only giving it three points. When I have my triangle, I duplicate it and make it smaller. I center them both up on the canvas, but they don't look centered. As you can see in the picture provided, the bottom has more of a width that the others. I've tried using the alignment tool and the smart guides. I do resize the triangle using shift so it doesn't mess up the shape too.

Am I the only one who has edited a stroke with the stroke width tool, then outlined the stroke only to find a countless number of points and noticeably unsmooth edges? Is there a setting or certain way to ensure that the stroke width tool won't corrupt the smoothness of my shapes? The stroke width tool is the most handy new feature I can imagine, but this problem makes it almost entirely useless, unless designing something where precision and smoothness are not important.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a pattern that I have created in previous itterations of Illustrator. In CC when I create a triangle (either via Star, Poly, or Pen tool) and then try to rotate it via Transform Each > Transform again, the rotation point moves according to what the bounding box would be if I reset it, rather than staying in one (original) spot relative to the actual bounding box and triangle. I cannot find any settings that would be affecting the rotate point in this way. I am pretty confident that I am using the same procedure now that I did in older versions of Illustrator. Perhaps I am using the wrong procedure.
Naturally, if you are rotating something around its center you should expect that it would end up create a circular pattern. It is more of a square with concave sides. The red is a perfect circle that I grouped to the triangle to demonstrate the rotate points movement. It is located in the exact center according to the align tools.

I do not want the center of the bounding box. I need the center of the shape. I once had this thread bookmarked for later reference but the link no longer exist.

I'm interested in what generalized method you would use to create a circumcircle for any type of triangle; the first thing that comes to mind is: how would you find the circumcenter?
Right now I am constructing two perpendicular bisectors using this method:
• Select the triangle.
• Menu) Object → Path → Add Anchor Points
• Lock that layer and create a new one.
• Draw a line from one of the added anchor points to a corner anchor point.
• With the rotate tool: Alt+click on the added anchor point and rotate the line 90 degrees.
• Then repeat all of that to make another side's perpendicular bisector.
I want to create a right-angled triangle (just the three sides, no fill) where each side is a different color (say red, blue, and green). For generality, let's assume it's a scalene (rather than isosceles) right triangle. I want the weight of each line to be about 3pt. (But I guess that's not a crucial number. Let's say I'd like the sides to be 20 or 30 pts thick, for the thrill of it.) I know how to draw the three lines of specified width, make them different colors, and arrange them into a triangle. My problem is how to make the vertices (corners) look miter-joined rather than have them overlapping each other, which obviously looks terrible and like something an infant drew in Microsoft Paint. ;-) If I join the 3 paths into a single shape, they all become the same color, so I'm thinking I have to keep it as 3 separate lines (paths). The only solution I can think of is: Instead of drawing three lines of 3pt weight, draw three extremely thin rectangle shapes (about 3pt wide), one of each color, and rotate/position them so that they form the sides of a right-angled triangle. Then go in and do some visual surgery at the vertices to make the vertices look miter-joined.

I want to create a node on the intersection of two curves (eg bezier curves). Of course I can zoom in and try to be as near as possible, but it won't be exactly. Is it possible to exactly find the intersection?

After doing everything i can find to optimize my hardware/software for doing 3D animation in Ps Ext CS6. I still cannot render an animation to video using the Ray Traced Final setting. (Ray Traced Draft, no problem.) The last time I tried (after repairing disk permissions), at least Ps did not crash and give me the same old crash report (Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000007a0020000). This time I just got an error msg that my request could not be completed. (Progress?) Checking Activity Monitor, I could see that my available RAM, which was 13 GB when I started the render was now less than 1 GB (761 MB).
So, I have come to the conclusion that my 16 GB of RAM and 300 GB available for virtual memory on my HD is not enough for rendering the type of 3D animation I am trying to do. Would you agree? Also, I have read it is not good to use the same HD your program is installed on for a scratch disk, so I am considering getting an external solid state drive to use as a scratch disk.

I want to create a 3d ployline from a 2d polyline with curves. When I use the convert 2d polyline to 3d polyline command it places a bunch of vertices along the curve so when I go to place elevations on the vertices it takes too long. I want to be able to give an elevation at the pc and pt and have it place elevations along the curve from this info like it does on the stright lines.

I am preparing a batch of images for test submission, for a stock photo library.Recently a person working for one of the visual effects studios in London happened to tell me that these strict agencies use some set of layers that can separate tonality and color values to check for banding, dirtiness, noise and all those technical flaws that the human eye can't notice on a monitor. He said they perhaps have an action for it so that they can review faster.
He said that it is known as 'Craze Curves' or 'Visibility Curves' technique. He further added that all the studios use it before giving the final files to clients so that there is no issue in printing afterwards. It is sort of a quality control check and has been used by digital and advertising agencies all over the world.
But now his email seems to have changed and I can't get in touch with him to know how to use the technique.

when using my own brushes in Illustrator (which aren't very complictated, just "pressure-sensitive" as you can see in the example)...Illustrator fills the curves automatically.
Not, when I'm drawing large format, but once in a while I have to draw small vignettes or want to reduce the size. Small means: about a centimeter.
First I thought it might be a problem with the wacom tablet I got, but the support convinced me, that it had to be a problem with the software... I had the same problem already with CS3 and 4, now again with CS6.
Having just entered the world of illustrator (cs6) I'm finding trying to get smooth curves to do what you want is a highly confusing operation.Being a fairly competant user of Photoshop the same task can be acheived relatively easily by way drawing paths with the pen tool and simply adding anchor points to drag out the desired shape. This buisness of dragging out handles in order to create curves in illustrator is crazy, I just can't seem to get the curves to behave how I want them to, I've watched probably 20 tutorials on this now and all demonstrate the same technique for creating curves, is there a more straight forward, simple way to achieve precise smooth curves similar to PS?
