In AI, smart guides indicated "intersection" when I am drawing a path or moving an object to align to the intersection of two guides, when I release the mouse, the object I am moving/drawings jumps slightly off the intended alignment intersection. If I continue to try to move it to align, it jumps to the other side or back to where it was but will mot match the intersection.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is possible at all in Illustrator, but I want to align objects to text paths. Look at the following example.
I start with something like a circular hierarchy, that I get as an output from another program. These are only lines and text. Now I want to add a flag behind the text. This flag should have the same orientation as the text path.
As this hierarchy is actually pretty big (this is only a snippet), I don't want to rotate all the flags manually. I tried to do it manually with the below example, but it still doesn't looks right...
Is this a proper method to rotate the flags according to the orientation of the text paths in Illustrator?
When I have made a logo and there's mutiple parts and I want to center it, it messes all the parts up. How do I center it while keeping the shape without combining it all? Example in photo: [URL]
View 12 Replies View RelatedI currently have grid setup, and I am unable to put guides specificly where I want, they will either be a few pixels to the left/right of where I actually want. It seems like my guides or rectangles that I make only snap to the grid, and I do not want this to happen since some of my shapes do not fit a grid specifically. Lets say I want my rectangle to be 4.5 Grid blocks (each block being 25 px), so 112.5, it only allows me to do 4 blocks or 5 blocks. Is there a preference that can be changed so I can make free shapes without having them direct on the grid?
Attached an example. I'm trying to make the red box the same width and in the same position as the black and it does not let me.
I guess I found my solution, under the transform fly out menu when "align to pixel grid" is unchecked it fixes this.. Is there a better way to do this though?
I need access to AI guides in AfterEffects shift+alt+ctrl double click doesn't always work.
Is there a script to convert all guides to paths?
I was working on a project and using Smart Guides, but suddenly, they disappeared. I don't know what I did, the Smart Guide box is still checked in the View panel, and if I open a new document, they work just fine again. what other settings I should check?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble with smart guides in Ai CS6. They are on. However, when my cursor intersects a guide path, words like 'intersect' and 'guide' do not appear, as I have seen them do for others. Also, the 'heads-up' information display that shows the width and height, e.g. when using the grid tool, does not appear either.
The guides are working to some extent, it seems, since I do get green lines here and there.
I am trying to remove a circular shape from a rectangle in illustrator, the retangles width is 10px and the diameter of the circle is 13px, I centre the circle ontop of the rectangle ( or I appear to) but when I use the Shape mode tool minus front, the circle is no longer centred ( see images).
I have tried switching off smart guides and snap to grid and am still having the same problem.
In the above image you can see once I have divided the 13px circle from the rectangle it has moved off to one side.
Also when I am trying to manually place the circle ( rather than using the centre guides ) I can only move it by a large degree it alway moves further than I move the mouse, could this be because of a pixel grid? I do not think I am using this. ( can see in the above image where I am trying to place the circle and when I let go of the mouse, the grey circle is where it lands.
From the 2 images below you can see that there is a 1px difference on either side of the extracted circle I was trying to get centered.
I should mention that the 'Align to pixel grid' in the transform menu is inactive when I am trying to do this, as I initially thought that this may be the cause of my problems, but it made no difference.
Here's a screen shot to show what I mean. I tried to create this smaller box off of the anchor point of the larger box.
Currently usuing AI CS6 on a mac running osx 10.6.8
I have done a completely clean install of Creative Cloud CS6 on my mac on Mountain Lion. First time opening Illustrator, and I cannot center two vector objects on each other. Rather, when I click to center them (vertically or horizontally) it actually pushes them further apart! It also appears to be arbitrarily selecting another object on my art board when I select these two (there is no grouping overlap, it makes no sense). I've looked around before, and have 'align to selection' checked, and 'snap to grid/snap to point' unchecked in the 'view' dropdown. Going to try to trash my preferences, but this is literally the first time I've opened it, so I can't see how that would be an issue!
I use this tool CONSTANTLY in what I do, so this is really troubling.
I have just become aware of the smart guides in CS4. They seem to show up momentarilyin vicinity of certain points e.g. the center of page or the pupil of human eye.I have found very little about them in the help section -

View 8 Replies View RelatedSay I have a group that consists solely of five triangles. Is it possible to use simultaneously align or distribute functions on while selecting just those five triangles? It seems like I can align up to four triangles at a time within the group, but when I select all five Illustrator interprets that I'm trying to align the entire group with another object outside of that group. Key objects don't seem to be supported in this situation.

The only thing I comeup with is save a copy of the current design, clear the layers and use it as a template.
But then I lose some flexability if I had to change a smart guide and want to update existing designs.
how can I align a group of objects to the center of the artboard or elsewhere. Rt now it aligns each object in the group to the center, but I need the group as a whole to be centered.

I am duplicating this grouped object, and trying to design a press wall with the logo repeated multiple times. I duplicate the logo multiple times and place them on the page, but when I try to use the "distribute objects" tool, it breaks up my logo(s) into their consituent objects and distibutes the pieces on the page, which is very annoying... how do I keep my logo together AND be able to distribute it evenly across my banner?

But I have found that most effective way for me is to export a flat file to photoshop then copy the individual layers from ilustrator into photoshop as smart objects effectively rebuilding the structure of the ai file in photoshop.

When I select two anchor points on opposite side of each other to split the object it just adds a line in the middle with the object as a whole still in tact.

View 15 Replies View RelatedWhen we import something from illustrator or indesign as a smart object, for some reason the objects width and height will not keep their dimensions in proportion.
When the asset is first imported as a smart object it says the width and height are exactly 100%. However after that if you try to change the dimensions they will be out of proportion, usually the width will be 100% but the height will be out by about 1% to begin with. When you scale up, the percentages fall further and further apart. See image attached.
This has become a real problem for our workflow as the creative director insists we must correct every layer which has this issue by typing in the sizes manually, but then this doesnt always fix the problem either depending on which version of photoshop you are using.
Just installed the new CS6. I'm experimenting with Illustrator. I feel a little dumb asking this, but ALL of my newly drawn paths, brush strokes, objects etc. keep automatically shifting to the bottom of the layer instead of like usual, appearing at the top. Is there a way to turn this off? Revert back to normal?

All the file associations in Bridge are correctly set. Is there a way to change the file associations for smart objects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter placing an Illustrator file in Photoshop as a Smart Object, then double-clicking the object in Photoshop to edit it, the only swatches that remain in the Swatches panel are global ones. All the other swatches have been removed. (This is with the embedded file that opens; the original is unaffected.)
I assume this is by design, but any way of preventing it from happening, other than tediously changing every swatch to global before doing the embedding? And yes, I can always re-load the swatches afterwards, but that's also an extra step I'd like to avoid.
This is all CS6 in Windows 8.1.
