how can I align a group of objects to the center of the artboard or elsewhere. Rt now it aligns each object in the group to the center, but I need the group as a whole to be centered.

I'm sure this is mind-numbingly obvious and I am overlooking it, but when I go to use the rotate tool, the center point of the rotation is defaulting to the center of the artboard, not the selected group of objects. How do I change that to default to rotating on the selection center by default?
PS. This is Illustrator CC (17.0.2) on a Mac running 10.9, if that is relevant.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSay I have a group that consists solely of five triangles. Is it possible to use simultaneously align or distribute functions on while selecting just those five triangles? It seems like I can align up to four triangles at a time within the group, but when I select all five Illustrator interprets that I'm trying to align the entire group with another object outside of that group. Key objects don't seem to be supported in this situation.

Is there a way to change this behaviour?
I make a compound object, then when I resize it, it moves anchors around. Note the corners on the 3rd "8" -- they're pinched together. This is happening on a lot of different object

If I group the objects to align them to the artboard, then they move to one layer, and do not move back to their original layers when ungrouped. I don't want that.

I want to center align horizontally, but it places the object near the right edge of the artboard. Same things vertically: instead of centered it places it near the top of the page. Now my object is in the top right corner of the artboard. When I try it again, it moves it farther into the corner, incermentally less. What obscure preference did i accidentally activate?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been using CS6 for about a month now, and all of sudden I started having an issue with alignment (and sometimes with distribute evenly command). Basically, anytime I try to use align center or edge (horizontally or vertically) with any object(s) and guideline, objects as well as guideline that I selected disappear from the artboard (white space) -- so I zoom out to get the entire workspace (gray area) view, I find objects ending up somewhere way beyond the white space and the guideline at the very top of the workspace if I used align center horizontally, or the guideline being at the very left of the workspace if I used align center vertically. I made sure that align to: selection is selected, but it appears that it yields same results whether I choose align to artboad, or align to key objects. I use CS6 on my computer at home, but I haven't had any issue with this yet.

2. I want to use the guide to create a balanced design for a poster by making sure that I place my focal image on the center of guide to ensure that half of it displays on either side of the guide. How important is it to strive for complete balance? how do I center my current selection to the artboard? just like hitting the "horizontal align-center" and "vertical align-center" buttons. I've been searching for the last two hours and before my head hits the keyboard.
What I'm struggling with: in my init function i create a new document and then copy all layers from the previous document step by step to the new document and then save it as SVG.

my problem is that holderDoc = app.documents.add(); always creates a document that is not the same size as my initial document where the layers get copied from.

which from what I've read on the web means that illustrator doesnt know what document to pick. but i have called it directly. I do not want to fit the artboard to the images/layer. the artboard should always have a certain size. (for me 128px by 128px)

i now added a new artboard to the new document with the same size as the artboard on the initial document.i remove the predefined artboard on the new doc and set the new artboard as active the artboard is now not centered into the window. which lets illustrator place my image with ctrl+c -> ctrl+v somewhere outside the artboard.
i now need to align my selection to the center of the artboard. but i cant find any reference on how to center a selection to the artboard.
When increasing the width of a stroke around a shape the stroke is not centered... WHY DOES IT DO THIS??? Even if I use the controls in the stroke window to change this it sill plays up.

1) Giving a path offset effect.
I played with this, but didn't got me any result. I mean by giving the offset different values, I didn't saw the stroke moving to one side.
2) Creating a new brush for this.
3) Something by using an invisible rectangle.
At this moment, not one method have worked for me
What I basically want is to create those 'lineal' lines in the wing below. I already made an outline of the ribs and control of alignment of strokes gives me more options and flexibility to draw this.
When creating patterns with for example very easy dimensions like the artboard 400 x 400 px etc, and everything right placed, as you can see on the print screens, after having created the pattern, it never aligns center-aligned like I would like it too.

I have done a completely clean install of Creative Cloud CS6 on my mac on Mountain Lion. First time opening Illustrator, and I cannot center two vector objects on each other. Rather, when I click to center them (vertically or horizontally) it actually pushes them further apart! It also appears to be arbitrarily selecting another object on my art board when I select these two (there is no grouping overlap, it makes no sense). I've looked around before, and have 'align to selection' checked, and 'snap to grid/snap to point' unchecked in the 'view' dropdown. Going to try to trash my preferences, but this is literally the first time I've opened it, so I can't see how that would be an issue!
I use this tool CONSTANTLY in what I do, so this is really troubling.
I was using a custom size of artboard in illustrator, but I now I want to change it to A4 size for printing. However, when I change it to a A4 size artboard, the size of objects on that artboard remain unchange. As a result these objects do not fit the new size of artboard. Are there any way that I can change both the size of artboard and objects at once?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i copy an artboard, sometimes the objects on both the original and the duplicate artboard have slightly moved. See sreenshots below what i mean (you have to look closely).
The right artboard was copied to the left by alt-dragging the artboard. This happens to me a lot, but not all the time, i can't really predict when it happens... At first i thought it came by an accidental mouse click or something, but the strange thing is that after the copy the objects slightly moved on both artboards.
I don't know if this is possible at all in Illustrator, but I want to align objects to text paths. Look at the following example.
I start with something like a circular hierarchy, that I get as an output from another program. These are only lines and text. Now I want to add a flag behind the text. This flag should have the same orientation as the text path.
As this hierarchy is actually pretty big (this is only a snippet), I don't want to rotate all the flags manually. I tried to do it manually with the below example, but it still doesn't looks right...
Is this a proper method to rotate the flags according to the orientation of the text paths in Illustrator?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is a recent phenomonom, the shade of objects changes depending on their vertical position on the artboard. If I move an object from the top of the artboard to the bottom it becomes lighter, and these changes remain even after it is saved as a png- this is driving me crazy!!! it is very slight, but still enough to cause a headache. If you look at this image you can see that the top blue box is slightly darker than the blue box at the bottom, event though this is the exact same box copied and pasted down the artboard.

I am duplicating this grouped object, and trying to design a press wall with the logo repeated multiple times. I duplicate the logo multiple times and place them on the page, but when I try to use the "distribute objects" tool, it breaks up my logo(s) into their consituent objects and distibutes the pieces on the page, which is very annoying... how do I keep my logo together AND be able to distribute it evenly across my banner?
