Illustrator :: Align And Distribute All Objects Within A Group?
Oct 23, 2012Say I have a group that consists solely of five triangles. Is it possible to use simultaneously align or distribute functions on while selecting just those five triangles? It seems like I can align up to four triangles at a time within the group, but when I select all five Illustrator interprets that I'm trying to align the entire group with another object outside of that group. Key objects don't seem to be supported in this situation.

Jan 22, 2011usually if i want to align shapes side-by-side so that they have no gap between them, or 0px, i do it by cloning the shape and moving it along the direction its going and then zooming in on the gap. this is a 'by-eye', i'm sure theres a more definitive way to do it.
for example, if i am joining two square shapes together, to make a rectangle, how can i make sure the join is seamless and perfect?

In the last day, one of our users has lost his ability to Group. Whether he selects objects and then pulls down "Group" from the tools menu or vice versa, the objects do not group. The command line text doesn't give any errors or other indication of what is happening.

May 10, 2012Trying to do something as simple as y=x^3 (Explicit Mode). Set xmin = 10, xmax = 20 then tried y(x) = :
1in *(x^3) -- no good
(x^3)/1 in -- no good
(x/1 in)^3 -- no good
Error is that "Equation y(x) contains errors. Expected units are length".
The point here is: Why should typing in such a simple equation as y=x^3 be so difficult??? Can't even do (x*x*x)/1 in & make it work.
Illustrator :: Gradient Tool Won't Fully Function Inside Live Paint Group - CS4
Jun 5, 2009I've noticed that the Gradient Tool won't show up when inside a Live Paint group, which makes it difficult to edit gradients. Is it supposed to be like this?
It is still possible to edit the gradient using the Gradient Panel, but I prefer to use the Gradient Tool instead because of it's direct approach.
Also, when selecting multiple areas within a Live Paint group to fill with a gradient, I don't seem to be able to Alt+Drag with the Gradient Tool in order to fill each selection with it's own gradient. It always ends up with one gradient being applied across all of the selections.

As I remember somewhere read that there is some way of it without ungrouping, however now reading the Designer Pro help it seems that is needed
To add more objects to a group
Select the group.
Ungroup ("Ctrl + U")
Select the extra objects.
Group again ("Ctrl + G")
Basically this group is a repeating object on several pages so maybe would not touch that with ungrouping, but of course if there will be no other choice
Illustrator :: Cannot Align Two Objects On Each Other
May 30, 2013I have done a completely clean install of Creative Cloud CS6 on my mac on Mountain Lion. First time opening Illustrator, and I cannot center two vector objects on each other. Rather, when I click to center them (vertically or horizontally) it actually pushes them further apart! It also appears to be arbitrarily selecting another object on my art board when I select these two (there is no grouping overlap, it makes no sense). I've looked around before, and have 'align to selection' checked, and 'snap to grid/snap to point' unchecked in the 'view' dropdown. Going to try to trash my preferences, but this is literally the first time I've opened it, so I can't see how that would be an issue!
I use this tool CONSTANTLY in what I do, so this is really troubling.
Xara :: Editing Group Content
May 28, 2011If I have some items that are grouped. In XDP6, I used to be able to double-click on one part of it and edit the colors etc. If text was grouped, then you could double-click on the text and edit that.
Well, in XDP7, if you double-click on a part of grouped objects, you are now taken to another page called 'Edit Inside...'
I don't want to be taken to another page because the things I wanted to be able to see at the same time are on the original page.
Is there a way of stopping this annoying 'Edit Inside..' page opening up?
Xara :: How To Create Lines Around A Group
Jul 9, 2011Is there an easy way that I am missing to create lines around a group? For example, when I want a rectangle with rounded corners on only one side, I usually just make 2 separate rectangles, one with rounded corners, one square, then group them together. However, when you put a line around it it also makes a lines where the two meet each other. I have always worked around it by adding another square rectangle between the 2 with no lines, to cover up the lines. Am I missing something obvious?

Oct 14, 2012Basically I want to duplicate an object along a spline. Sure there's the spacing tool, but listen what the problem is. I want to keep it parametric so that I can pick the path, duplicate the object along it, tweak the distance between the clones, vary the size of the clones, and possibly animate them.
Workaround I've tried:
1- pFlow, not handy / not the actual solution I'm looking for.
2 - Railclone: the lite version works fine, but it works only with flat splines (i.e. moving the points on the z doesn't affect the duplication).
3 - Path Constraint: it's ok, but to make it work I had first to constraint the single mesh, then array it. After the last step there's no other control over the cloned meshes.
4 - Path Deform: it's the closest solution, unfortunately the mesh can get annoying distortions, haven't found a way to avoid them.

Jun 7, 2013Why can't I align a single layer that is inside a layer group? The align tool would always select the top most layer group as the 'boundary' for alignment, thus automatically selecting the whole layers inside of it and align them as a group.
Is this a bug or just GIMP's weakness? It definitely reduces the layer group's usefulness.

Oct 4, 2011Right-click drag on an object is a neat way of quickly cloning an object.
If you do this on an object that is part of a group (by using CTRL click to select inside first) then you see the clone of the object as you drag it but it disappears the moment you let go of the mouse button.

I mean something that can change contrast, brightness and saturation of all colors in the group at once.
For now I use the bitmap filter "Enhance" but sadly the outlines become jaggy by this.

Feb 2, 2014Is there a way to align more than 2 objects either horizontally or vertically? I've used the ALIGN command and I can't get it to work. I get a message that says something like: "all 3 destination points are colinear".
I can get it to work if I'm just aligning two objects.
For instance, say you have four boxes, scattered around model space, and you want to align the left edge of three of them to the left edge of the fourth box, without moving them vertically. In other words, can you "left justify" all four boxes?

Nov 26, 2012I don't know if this is possible at all in Illustrator, but I want to align objects to text paths. Look at the following example.
I start with something like a circular hierarchy, that I get as an output from another program. These are only lines and text. Now I want to add a flag behind the text. This flag should have the same orientation as the text path.
As this hierarchy is actually pretty big (this is only a snippet), I don't want to rotate all the flags manually. I tried to do it manually with the below example, but it still doesn't looks right...
Is this a proper method to rotate the flags according to the orientation of the text paths in Illustrator?

Beside I have drawn a circle, and so selecting the blend, with shift click also the circle, I would like with Blend Tool apply the Rotate along curve function.
But somehow that is not active, only the Fit Blend to curve, but would need rather the rotate.
