I'm using GIMP 2.8.2
I'd like to take a rectangular image (a photo) and stretch/distort it along a curved path. I've tried searching for how to do this but all I'm finding is how to curve text along a path, which, while also useful, is not what I'm trying to do.
Is there a way to do this? I'm a novice with GIMP.
I'd like to create custom effects using paths. Is it possible to distort a (rectangle) area along a given path? Let's suppose for instance I have a gradient in a rectangle area and I drew an open path manually with a few nodes forming waves, loops; I'd like to have the rectangle area "follow" the path and be distorted accordingly. Mathematically that would suppose:the rectangle area would be stretched to fit the path length andthe rectangle area could be "bent" using its gravity centre as a reference point. That'd be useful for creating smoke effects for instance. Can Gimp 2.6 do this or is there a plugin?

I am trying to distort/shape a photo to fit into another shape, in the shape of a shield. Its something that would be reused on other pictures.

the other, is there any way to create like a rubber stamp or a cutting tool, that once I have the shape I want created, I can use that to copy/cut/paste that image shape from other images also ?
I am looking for a method to stretch an image in a non homogeneous way. I am starting with a rectangular image that I want to stretch horizontaly to finally obtain a trapeze in the way that the bottom pixel line does'nt change, and the top one is three times bigger. In a certain way, I want to do a perspective but without the vertical rescaling.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI am trying to have a dynamic block that will show the profile of a steel plate, detailing the angle of a bevel. Including the plate thickness, the land, gap and the actual angle of the bevel. I've gotten most of it figured out, but having a grip to SET the angle at a specific number, while maintaining the drawing's integrity is proving difficult. I have attached the block I have created so far (minus the previous attempts to rotate the beveled angle).

The base point of the rotate parameter should be at the junction of the bevel & land. I need it to stay connected to the end point of the top-most flat line as it rotates, which means the lines need to stretch to match the changing angle. It will either rotate that line along with it, or if I apply a stretch tool, it gets all disconnected and just plain wrong.
One of the things I am liking about my current set up is I can grab a grip, and then type the number I need and it will pop on into place. Was hoping for the same effect if I typed in the angle, it would be exactly that, while also adjusting the drawing.
I got a file from a client, which, when I attempt to rotate it 90 degrees, it distorts elongated. And no, it doesn't matter whether I use PS, Illustrator, or InDesign.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBut I only have (can only afford) the Photo Net free Version 3.3x, 3.5.I have a photo, say 2000 x 1500 px. But it is distorted. It looks like the two people in it have 25-inch legs. So I need to select the bottom half (rectangle select)
- and "stretch" that selection (not the whole image) from 1000 x 1500 px to 1250 x 1500 px!
The revised image with therefore be 2250 x 1500 px.
- but it will no longer be distorted
- and will include all the data in the opriginal photo.
All Serif PhotoPlus does is:-
- stretches the selected rectangle
- but keeps the same 2000 x 1500 dimensions
- simply by cropping off the bottom 200 or so pixels. This is not what I want. instead, whether or not Photo Net Version 3.3x, 3.5 is capable of resizing / changing the dimensions of a selected part of an image, i.e. stretching it along one axis?
It will really get me out of a hole that could never have been envisaged for such a simple, routine photographic requirement.
there's nothing in that dropdown menu for you to select your source image/layer in the Move Path plugin.I am using an XCF (Gimp) file, with many layers. I selected a particular layer, then I opened the Move Path plugin.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI photographed a framed painting that, despite my best efforts, came out as a trapezoid rather than the rectangle I intended. The image has a slight taper in the sides going from top to bottom. The top of the image is 100% of the canvas width while the bottom of the image is perhaps 95% of the canvas width, so it is close to a true rectangle but not exact. What that means is that the bottom of the photo needs to be stretched by about 5%, the middle needs to be strecthed by about 2.5%, and the top is OK as is. Naturally, the amount of stretch required becomes progresively greater when going from the top to the bottom of the image. I'm new to Photoshop. Is it possible to perform such an image manipulation?

(in my case, the space between the path and the text is about 3 times the height of the currently used font!). I have created a dynamic block. Herein I placed stretch actions parameter set to strecht parts including anotative text.
Now the block seems to work fine.
- When I am in modelspace and I change the annotation scale the text is changed correct
- When I am in modelspace and I change the stretch value of the dynamic block everything goes fine.
But when I am in modelspace and I change the stretch value in one of the annotiaton scales and then switch to another scale my text is changed annotativly (this is what I want) but the stretch value is set back to default (which should be at the changed value).
When i creates a new path with Shift+Click by path tool no new path created in path dialog.Why?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made a little video commercial, where I show album covers, with intermittent quick videos of me in- between. Since I changed locations where I DJ now, I took the original video, and just tweaked it a little with the new internet address, etc. The album covers I used were all originally 300x300, and I have them all centered in the overlay screen.
The problem is, when I play the video within VSx3, everything looks fine- but as I'm encoding into a .flv file to upload on youtube, it's distorting all the perfect "squares", and "rectangulizing" them the long way.
i'm doing a CD layout and want to use an image that stretches across all three of the front panels for the cover. the image in question, in it's original form is: 300dpi and roughly 5.75in x 3.8in. i need the image to be able to fit a 14.5in x 5in area (i realize the photo will need to be cropped).
so, how does one make the file larger while retaining the detail of it 300dpi? i've already imported the photo into InDesign and exported it as a PDF, opened the PDF in PS at 800dpi, then resized it with the RESAMPLE IMAGE box UNCHECKED and the pic is ultra grainy.
I have a vertical (rectangular) photo that I have pasted into a square canvas. I am looking to expand the photo to the edges of the canvas in a specific way: I want to stretch the edges of the photo (not the whole photo) such that the closer the photo edge is to the edge of the canvas the more stretched it is.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that using "Stretch Contrast" gives a much more contrasty image than using the "White Balance" option. Isn't it supposed to be the other way round based on the description?
I'm using the GIMP 2.8.0 for Windows.
Also "Stretch Contrast" is very close to "Normalize" and "Normalize" does seem to shift color in exactly the same way as the "Stretch Contrast" option, although based on the description, it shouldn't.
I want to stretch my video clip but the normal double clicking on the image and stretching it out, isnt working. I also cant use my effects and I cant seem to find the effect controls panel.

In PSP8 I opened my target, 1615 x 1066 px:
Then, following the instructions, I opened this circular mask, 450 x 450 px:
But after completing the procedure my result looks like this, with an elliptical 'see through' area instead of a circle:
If this is by design, how would I get the circular effect I want? There are simpler ways of doing it for an all black/white mask.
Wonder if can Can Image stretch from left or right or top or bottom side instead of diagonal ?

I'm trying to place text to a "curvy" path. I took some screen shots to show you want I'm talking about.
I created a simple curvy path 1 point on each end. (I noticed I drew in a node in the middle of the curve as well. But that actually doesn't exist in the path. I created the text a reasonable size and clicked "Text Along Path". As you can see, it never starts at the beginning of the path. Ever. I have sized the font up, and it gets a little closer to the beginning, but obviously the end of the address flies off the path. I've sized down the text and it will start even further to the middle of the path.
I have no problem getting my text along a path but I am having trouble getting the text and the path to align so that the center of the text element is centered on the path.
Is this possible or do I have to figure out someway to make my path of a certain length so it ends up that the text fits to it perfectly??
Here is a screenshot of my current problem. You can see that the text and the image below it are centered. I then placed some guide lines to make sure my path was also centered. When I placed that text along the path though, it left justified the text when I want it to be centered instead..
I have got a logo that is 451 x197. It has a resolution of 72 px. I am trying to increase the resolution so that I can use the image for business cards and letterhead.
I need for the image to have a width of about 2500 pixels. If I scale the image to 2500 pixels the edges look pixelized or blurry.
My question is: Is there a way that I can make the 471 px logo stretch to 2500 px and still have sharp edges?
I'm working on a graphic in which I wish to have some text around a circle. I know, I know, use "Text to Path" ... except that will not work in this case because the text I want to have go around the circle is not from a font, but drawn by me (my other other project; find a program for creating font files that I can afford to make a proper font so "Text to Path" would work).
So, I have a selection (and a path from that selection) that is basically the outline of the text I want to manipulate. I have another selection for the circle the text is supposed to go around. What is the (probably obvious) thing that I'm missing to get the text selection path to be drawn on the circle?
Is it possible to drag/move a point in an image so that all imaginary lines emanating from that point remain emanating from that point? Something like what's shown in the attachment.
