GIMP :: Text Along Path And Aligning Center Of Text With Path?
May 23, 2013
I have no problem getting my text along a path but I am having trouble getting the text and the path to align so that the center of the text element is centered on the path.
Is this possible or do I have to figure out someway to make my path of a certain length so it ends up that the text fits to it perfectly??
Here is a screenshot of my current problem. You can see that the text and the image below it are centered. I then placed some guide lines to make sure my path was also centered. When I placed that text along the path though, it left justified the text when I want it to be centered instead..
I'm trying to place text to a "curvy" path. I took some screen shots to show you want I'm talking about.
I created a simple curvy path 1 point on each end. (I noticed I drew in a node in the middle of the curve as well. But that actually doesn't exist in the path. I created the text a reasonable size and clicked "Text Along Path". As you can see, it never starts at the beginning of the path. Ever. I have sized the font up, and it gets a little closer to the beginning, but obviously the end of the address flies off the path. I've sized down the text and it will start even further to the middle of the path.
I have a variable number of text lines I would like to arrange along the path of half a circle. I would like the text to look like each text-string is radiating from the circle (the path I have as half a circle).
I would like to do this in adobe illustrator
I would like the text to be evenly spaced along the path dependent on how many lines of text I have.
I have seen other discussions suggesting either the blend-tool or the brush-tool. But no luck. The blend-tool would make distorted shapes in between, and would twist and distort the text. The brush tool would make each text a little bit 'cone-shaped', and I would prefer having the text without such a 'cone-shape'.
I am attaching a picture that halfway shows my intentions. In this diagram I have started rotating the first 4-5 text-lines. I have more text-strings (just above the half-circle) that I also would like to include along the path the half-circle is indicating.
The final goal is to get each of these locality-names raditing from the tips in the little red tree.
Is it possible in illustrator to align the text along a path like this? It is almost similar to the normal align objects and distribute objects.
I am working on a Mac OSX 10.5 Adobe Illustrator CS3.
Why the "Text along path" feature hovers the text so far above the currently active path? (in my case, the space between the path and the text is about 3 times the height of the currently used font!). I've been told that the letters should lie on top of or at least closer to the path instead. How can I move the text closer to the path?
I'm trying to create an effect of small text following the outline of very large bold block text (see picture). The idea I had was to first create the 'ME' in very large font as text. Then convert that text to an object / path using "Object -> Flatten Transparency... -> "Convert all text to outline"". Then, select that path and use the "Type along path" tool.
However, when I use that process, the resulting path is a compound path that therefore the Type Along Path tool doesn't work. Any pointers on how to achieve this? The image below I just used the pencil to trace the letters (quick and dirty) but the result is choppy, etc.
I am trying to do text to path and I finally got it to work, but it is not bringing the text color that I assigned. Instead the text becomes a black outline of the real text. I uploaded this to the application I wanted to use it in, and the text was gone.
want some text along a circular path and the result of "text to path" is ALWAYS text is truncated at the 19th character.GIMP 2.8.2 on Ubuntu 12.11
Process1. create a new background 2. make a circular selection 3. issue "select / to path" command 4. issue "select / none" command 5. create my text, 35 characters long on one line6. issue "text / along path" command
The text ALWAYS starts at the 12 o'clock position and is ALWAYS cut off at the 19th character! On the original circle the text cuts off at the 4 o'clock position. If I make the circle larger the text is still cut off at the 19th character but: - It starts at 12 o'clock and is cut off at 2 o'clock
If I make the circle smaller the text is still cut off at the 19th character but: - It starts at 12 o'clock and is cut off at 6 o'clock..All the circles are large enough for all the text to print around their circumference.
I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one. I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status. I'm running OS X 10.7.5.
I accidentally converted a path to a text path. I searched the forum for how to convert it back to a regular path. The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.
I am a bit skilled in basic gimp use but I am looking to do text along a path in gimp 2.8. I under stand about creating a path making it visible etc but i cant use the add selection tool nor does my text options include the button to text along path i read a post on a video some one mentioned a plugin i tried to find the plugin and could not getting extremely upset . Is there a plugin i need if so where can i dl it and how do i install it .
I've been struggling to get some text to go along a circular path. I've finally done it, but it's going along the wrong part of the circle - I want it to go along the top and it's part way round - and I can't seem to find a way to move it along. I've tried several times but it does the same thing each time.
Also the text isn't showing in the right font, although it is in the text box. Am I missing something?
I just downloaded GIMP 2.8 for Max Snow Leopard. I like a lot of the new features, particularly being able to use the one window feature.
I'm having some challenges with Text along path. I found it under the context menu okay. However, when I use it, only part of the words I'm trying to put on the selected path show up. I was using three words that amount to a total of 20 letters. The last half of the last word is getting cut off. I've tried several different things to no avail.
Is there documentation on using the 'text along a path' command for gimp 2.8?
The documentation that exists ... [URL] ....shows the path tool in the tool box but I dont have this button. Is this documentaion out of date?
I found somewhere saying that 'text along a path' has been moved to the text context menu but I cant figure out what this context menu is supposed to be.
When I try to use Text to path it only transfers 15-16 characters, ignoring the rest of the text. Why does this happen? E.g "I have a problem with gimp" will return "I have a proble".
I have tried several times with different texts and to different paths.
Text Along Path tool. I create a path then select the text tool and type some text. I click on the Text along Path button and an outline of my text shows up along my path. That's as far as I can go. How do I make the text stick there? How do I complete this process. I know the solution is simple but I can't figure it out and I don't see it in the GIMP manual.
I'm an occasional Gimp user and am having a problem tryingto create some CD/DVD labels. I want to put text on a curved path but haven't beenable to get a persistent path.
I've followed instructions in the help manual and from the "Beginning GIMP" bookabout creating a path but the path won't display after switching to a differenttool.
These screenshot links show:1) Using brush selected for path
[URL].... Using line selected for path [URL]...Resulting path (same for both types) [URL]....
As soon as I select the text tool, the path disappears. Obviously I'm missing somestep that would make the path persistent or I'm misunderstanding how paths work.Shouldn't the path remain visible?
The Gimp version is 2.6.12 on a KDE desktop under openSuSE 12.1 & 12.2.
I have been using it to create graphics for the pin-back buttons I make. I have been using the Photoshop 1" button template located on this page:[URL]
The template has the words "perimeter text" that follows the inside of a path on the template. In the video demo on the same page in which the user used photoshop to demonstrate, she just hovers over the text with the mouse after selecting the text tool and is able to click on it and just change the exsisting text. I have not found this to be the case using Gimp. Is there a way I can easily edit this text, or do I have to create my own text along the path? If I have to create my own text along the path, how do I make it so the text follws in inside edge of the path?
I am trying to place my text along a path. I have followed the guides but gimp only places half the text along the path. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have selected the path, text is on dynamic. It's a curve path but the text only goes up one side and it it not the full text. I have change size of text font everything I can think off.
I finally managed to create some text along a curved path. That took a while. Now how do I A) fill it with some colour (it looks like it's just outlined text right now), and B) make it actually part of the image (exporting the image to jpeg, it doesn't seem to show up )
I created some text, and then immediately clicked text along path. it created some weird little pink pixely shape. if i keep clicking it it makes more. And i can't get rid of it.
It's above every layer, and it's not actually on a layer. If i hide, or even remove, every single layer it is still there. How can i delete these weird shapes that i erroneously made with the text along path tool?
[URL] it's that weird spot about mid screen, and the text in the bottom left. i just can't figure out how to remove that stuff
I've been using gimp occasionally here and there but never anything complicated. Now I want to make a text string appear along a path. I thought it would be easy, but after googling some how-to's I found a source of infinite frustration.
The thing is that the paths of string letters are almost never the way I want them to be. Although I tried a rather time consuming workaround for my task, it really bugs me that I was not able to use a built in feature.
Troubleshooting info: tried both gimp 2.8.2 and latest i could get 2.8.6 for windows, running win 7 x64
steps: 1. select path tool and create some path 2. select text tool and add some text 3. select the path created earlier from the Paths tab 4. Layer -> Text along path
and this is what I get (made the original path (red) and string's path (blue) visible):
I am trying to create a little logo, I write some text. When I put the text along a path, however long, the end of the text is missing. From my initial enquiry, the bigger the space I add in between letters, the more letters are missing at the end. However at times even without spacing the text is not complete. I have checked my layers, they are all to the image size, and I took a huge canevas to make sure!
space my letters in my text and yet have them all appeared along my path or at least get the full text on my path...
How would I get text letters to run along a path evenly spaced when the path begins at a fixed point in the middle of the screen?
I've read about: 1) Starting later letters on later frames 2) Incorporating subsequent delay times in the layer names 3) Manipulating the From and To points in the path setup.
I just could not seem to modify the instruction from the "FOLLOW" tut to my situation. See attachments. The jumbled up letters on the first attachment are circled in red.

Whenever I save my image I lose my text along path. It doesn't matter whether I save as xcf or export, the text path disappears. How do I save with the text along path in view? I'm using 2.8.
Today I found out that my Gimp 2.8 haven´t a "text along path" button in the text tool dialog. I must make it via the context menu of the text layer. Why is missing that button there?
I'm creating text along a path and then stroking the outline and adding a gradient fill - this is all fine. The problem comes when I want to move it, as once the text is added along the path, it often doesn't follow the path until the end so I'd like to centre it on the page, or maybe move it vertically a bit to fit around other stuff as I add to the image.
Yesterday I installed the newest GIMP 2.8 version for map making. I want to make a great map of USA/Mexico.Everything works fine except the most important thing for me, which is wrapping the text along the path.
The text is usually distorted and away from the path. This is how I do it:
Tools -> Paths -> make the path on map by right clicking left click on just made path -> Tools -> Text right click on text -> click on Text Along Path
I have been working on a project in which I need to curve text. I know how to curve the text via creating a path, path to text, etc. This issue that I am having is that the bottom of the text is distorted. By distorted, I mean the bottom of the text becomes thin and it looks bad.
Here is an example of the issue that I am dealing with (if it shows up).
I have recently installed Gimp 2.8.2, then reinstalled 2.8.4 because the Text Along Path option was missing from the Text Editor options. I was using this tool just fine in an older version so I knew the in's and out's of it then.
As you can see from the attachment, I believe I have all the necessary items in place. In other words, I have a path, which shows in the path dialog. I have text that was created after the path. In the picture, the Text Editor is currently selected while the path is showing in the dialog but the Text Along Path option is missing.
