View 1 RepliesFor a large project our organization is busy with, we are going to need to work with several sizes of icons, and the icons' names will need to be generated programatically by the back-end of our our system.
The icons are going to be in these sizes:
512 x 512256 x 256128 x 12864 x 6432 x 3224 x 2416 x 16
I want to create a resize action will generate icons in the proper size with unique names.
For example:
images/icon-512-size-king.png
images/icon-256-size-king.png
images/icon-128-size-king.png
images/icon-64-size-king.png
images/icon-32-size-king.png
images/icon-24-size-king.png
images/icon-16-size-king.png
The resizing part is simple - it's the naming that I'm not sure about!
I'm looking to change the way Gimp names the layers I create. I primarily use the application for 2D animation and would like to have the layer names be structured so that I don't have to change every one for each animation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of creating 3D points (as an overlay) on some laser scanned data (using RiScan, it's just 3d dimensional data, with a northing, easting and RL) and unfortunately the only export option is to export to .dxf... Which is fine but when I export, the information has the point ID as the layer name.
I am aiming at getting this data into another program to analyse and it needs the point ID or name to be my annotation, as opposed to the layer.
So what I need is a way of converting the names of each individual points layer, to the point ID.
It's a common practice when building layers to duplicate existing layers as a start. Additionally, it is good practice that layer names be meaningful.
Suppose I start with the following layer: layer 1
If I duplicate that layer, it seems reasonable I'd get: layer 2. Instead I get: layer 1 copy
Then if I duplicate again I get: layer 1 copy#1, even though this is copy #2.
I propose the following: An option be available whereby user is queried for name of any layer which is to be generated. This is easier than having to edit automatically generated layer names. If automatic layer names are to be generated, code first checks if previous layer name ends in a sequence of digits. If yes, then these digits are incremented as an integer until a unique layer name is generatedIf the layer name does not end in a sequence of digits, then "#1" is appended to the layer name, and the "1" incremented until a unique name is generated.
So with this algorithm:layer 1 would become layer 2 for a first copy, then layer 3 for a second copy, etc.background would become background#2 for a first copy, then background#3 for a second copy, etc.
The problem with using "copy" in the layer name is that it is probably only in the substantial minority of cases that the newly generated layer is destined to be a true copy, so the automatically generated layer name is very likely inappropriate. Better is to use a simpler, shorter name which applies in a greater fraction of the applications.
Downloaded GIMP 2.8 this morning (twice) and after installation there were no icon to access the program.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I use a tool (Eraser, Crop, Move, etc.) in GIMP, there is a little semi-transparent icon that shows near the bottom right of the cursor representing the tool I am currently using. Is there any way to disable this? I have been doing a lot of precision erasing and this really gets in my way.

How to avoid that white background, am i doing a correct method?
I am now seeing more and more of this effect and would like to know if there is a guide how to achieve similar results.
The effect I am talking about is the following:
The icon seems to be pressed in the background, like having depth. Not sure what this effect is called.
I was wondering is it possible to apply this effect to any image/icon? example the other icon I attached ...
When I was running GIMP 2+ under Win XP all icons of *.xcf displayed the image in the icon.
Under Win 7, only the GIMP icon is displaed. Is there a CODEC or other method to have the *.xcf image to display properly as an icon?
making my desktop icons. I stated out with either a jpg or png image. Using gimpshop I get the image resized and it looks fine. However, after exporting as an ico the image is very recognizable but shorter and fatter. I use to use photoshop so with gimpshop I look for something that said retain aspect ratio but as of now I haven't found it. It seems to adjust both width and height when I scale it but something happens during the export.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Gimp for a while and have never had this happen. When I open Gimp, it does not show the usual Gimp, File, Help Menu at the top. I am unable to open a file in Gimp. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still this tab is missing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to find a "play" arrow/button (like on a media player), just a right arrow/button, somewhere and make it semi-transparent, and then place it on top of an existing image.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've opened a gif file (web icon) which has shades of green. I want to use this on another site of ours which is similar but has shades of orange.
I use the dropper to select the color from a gif on the orange site - so the color is there in the color section box.
When I try to draw / fill on the green gif it ignores the orange color selected and uses a green from green gif. A lighter orange gives a lighter green.
On this one particular gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1 for icon use. Somehow whenever I choose that color and use the bucket tool to fill in the background I instead have the background become doe8a0 (the things that look like o's are zeros). I have no clue why it gives me such a different color.
Here's the gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1.
I've installed GIMP-2.6.10-p1-Snow-Leopard on my Mac OS X 10.6.3 .
When I start to paint , I found that the tool icon can not follow up with the mouse.
How to change the color of an icon (ex: from black to grey). My problem is that the end result is sometimes an icon that is partially transparent.
Here is what I am doing:
1) I open the image of which I want to change the color (black icon over transparent background)
2) Create a new layer and color this in white.
3) Merge the two layers
4) Create a new layer and color this with the color I want for my icon
5) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
6) Select the current color of the icon
7) Click Ok - Now icon color is the wanted color over a white background
8) Create a new layer and leave this transparent
9) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
10) Select the white color (current background color).
11) Click Ok - Now icon background is transparent, but icon color is also partially transparent.
Is there a way how I can change the color of an icon without getting the icon color transparent.
I created a email icon:
layer 5 stamp text
layer 4 rectangle (stamp)
layer 3 text
layer 2 rectangle (envelope)
layer 1 background
When I tried to work on the background layer, I realized I couldn't paint/draw on any of the layers except layer 4, but changes only appear inside the stamp's rectangular area.
I haven't don't anything clever here, I simply made a layer, drew a simple shape, stroked path, and added a new layer until I was done.
How do I undo this layer fixation?
I have some text icons on my phone size 48x48.. i am trying to get them chrome / metallic . Is there an easy way 9well easy for me way ) to do it . i have followed this
[URL]........ and all the other ones are the same but am stuck i just cant seem to do it .
I am on SUSE 12.2 kde, gimp-2.8.0
The icon spacing in the toolbox randomly changes its inter iconspacing, see [URL] .........
The only way I can get it back to normal seems to be to close gimp downand restart it
Maybe it has been corrected in 2.8.4 but SUSE haven't offered this intheir repositories.
Is there another setting that I can tweak to restore the inter iconspacing.
What is the best way to remove the text from this image (an RPG menu) so I can make my own game menu out of something completely different? I would also want to remove the character icon... + all current text.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using CorelDRAW X5. When I used version 12 and earlier versions, the color palette displayed on the right side of the screen showed color names. (I think you only saw the name when you selected a color.) Now instead I see only numerical values.
Is there a way to restore color names here? It seems this should be a simple option, like display color values or color names.
Several of our files are taking forever to print. I noticed that the color names are Pantone 464 PC. I'm not sure what the PC extension is, but when I looked at separations there were literally 100's of unnamed colors. I looked at the color styles docker and it was empty. If I change the color to a Pantone 464 C the file prints just fine.
So, my questions is, where did the PC color come from? I checked all the workstations and they are all using Pantone Coated C color docker.
I have a drawing with loads of images on it. All I want to do is print the image name so instead of a picture showing it should say "banana.jpg" or whatever the image name is.
I've tried unloading the images and plotting, but nothing happens.
