GIMP :: Email Icon - Can Only Paint / Draw On One Of Five Layers

I created a email icon:
layer 5 stamp text
layer 4 rectangle (stamp)
layer 3 text
layer 2 rectangle (envelope)
layer 1 background
When I tried to work on the background layer, I realized I couldn't paint/draw on any of the layers except layer 4, but changes only appear inside the stamp's rectangular area.
I haven't don't anything clever here, I simply made a layer, drew a simple shape, stroked path, and added a new layer until I was done.
How do I undo this layer fixation?

I created a text using the "chip away" filter and really liked the way it looked. Then I wanted to glowing hot filter to add some cracks into the text, to make it look like lava was coming out of it, but every time .
I try this the background turns completely white, or the text just becomes "glowing hot" and the "chip away" filter disappears.

I do not have a default email program associated with this progam,and to set one up....how do I set up a default email program for this corel paint shop pro? then it says if i do have an email default to use that as a default...everytime i try to send it, my windows live email comes up, but it wont allow me to send it...jsut says fails and its keeps saying aol failed..., which is not the default....

Trying to send photo by email attachment or photo email.
Had previously done the verification code thing and got the code and have been sending pics by photo email.Have got PS10 loaded to my Desk Top - main system and also my laptop .When trying now to send pics on my DeskTop I can get to the (maybe second) screen where you choose the size of the phots and then I get the Verification Code screen - which tells me that an 'initial verification code' will be emailed to the chosen email - but when I say continue, I go to the next screen of the Photo email and then when trying to send the phto email it locks up and says an unexpected error has taken place ...
I have sent some photos via the laptop but it seems to be very hit and miss at the moment.Also I have some problems opening PSE10 - When I click on the icon - I get the initial "organise or edit" screen where I choose organise - but then all that happens is this screen closes and the Organiser does not open. Most of the time I'm left with maybe shutting down my whole computer and starting up again and it works again.

Is it possible to email photos as attachments (jpg), not embededed within email? Mac users report when they receive the email, photo is only embedded, there is no attachment so they cannot download.

I'm running PSPP X3 under Windows 7 x64.
I select some jpegs in the Organizer and click the "Share as E-mail" button... and what does it do? It puts up an alert saying There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

When I use the layer isolate to isolate layers and then use the unisolate icon many layers are turned OFF which were not turned off before before using the isolate function. I have to go into layer manager, select all and turn them back on. Is this a Autocad glitch or am I doing something wrong. I am in an office with multi-users and they all seem to have this problem at times?

I only have one layer in the document - it is not locked. I have already tried locking it, unlocking it, creating new layers, locking/unlocking those.I am not able to access Object>Unlock All.
I have done Hide All Layers/Show All Layers - so there is nothing hidden..I have even opened a previous project, and it has the same symbol on it and none of these methods of correcting it works either. It printed fine on Friday.
When I create an entirely new document, the icon is still there.

The eraser and brush tools have no affect on the layers. It's weird, because they were working yesterday on the same image.

New and just started using Paint.NET about a month ago. I am loving every minute of the features in Paint.NET.
I am seeking to use a picture of a PC folder as a template shape for icons. I would like to drop the picture on top of the template and have everything of the picture that isn't over the folder disappear. Put another way, if I add a 100x100 pic over the picture of the folder, which is 100x100 and consists only of the folder on a 100% transparent background, how can I end up with a 100x100 icon that is the shape of the folder and contains the portion of the added image that was over the folder?
Is this possible or is there a plug-in for Paint.NET that makes this possible?

Is there are tool somewhere where you can make the draw order layer specific. I.e so we have a layer with a certain number of items on it that always appear above another layer with other types of items.
We tend to use leaders a fair bit and they often drop below some of our design elements, ideally we want them to be at the front & have to spend time bringing to front / sending to back etc.

When I use a tool (Eraser, Crop, Move, etc.) in GIMP, there is a little semi-transparent icon that shows near the bottom right of the cursor representing the tool I am currently using. Is there any way to disable this? I have been doing a lot of precision erasing and this really gets in my way.

I wanted to create transparent icon.i created it and i can see black&ash rectangles around the image, this confirm that as a transparent image.But after exporting it to jpg or png White color background is coming when i see it in photo viewer.

When I was running GIMP 2+ under Win XP all icons of *.xcf displayed the image in the icon.
Under Win 7, only the GIMP icon is displaed. Is there a CODEC or other method to have the *.xcf image to display properly as an icon?

I just downloaded a student version of Autocad for a uni assignment.upload a drawing/template I could use as a template.
I just need appropriate layers to draw some columns / beams and slab with basic reo in Metric format (model will be drawn in mm's). A simple A3 layout with title block would also be nice
I have tried googling for template downloads but all I got was a bunch of sites telling me how to make my own (rather not waste my time) and that Autocad should have come with some available (none had more than 2 layers).

making my desktop icons. I stated out with either a jpg or png image. Using gimpshop I get the image resized and it looks fine. However, after exporting as an ico the image is very recognizable but shorter and fatter. I use to use photoshop so with gimpshop I look for something that said retain aspect ratio but as of now I haven't found it. It seems to adjust both width and height when I scale it but something happens during the export.

I have been using Gimp for a while and have never had this happen. When I open Gimp, it does not show the usual Gimp, File, Help Menu at the top. I am unable to open a file in Gimp. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still this tab is missing.

I've opened a gif file (web icon) which has shades of green. I want to use this on another site of ours which is similar but has shades of orange.
I use the dropper to select the color from a gif on the orange site - so the color is there in the color section box.
When I try to draw / fill on the green gif it ignores the orange color selected and uses a green from green gif. A lighter orange gives a lighter green.

On this one particular gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1 for icon use. Somehow whenever I choose that color and use the bucket tool to fill in the background I instead have the background become doe8a0 (the things that look like o's are zeros). I have no clue why it gives me such a different color.
