I'm trying to create an icon with a transparent background, but I keep getting a coloured haze around the edge of the icon (see picture), is there anything obvious that I'm doing wrong?
View 3 RepliesI wanted to create transparent icon.i created it and i can see black&ash rectangles around the image, this confirm that as a transparent image.But after exporting it to jpg or png White color background is coming when i see it in photo viewer.
How to avoid that white background, am i doing a correct method?
I'm trying to make the attached icons have a transparent background. Tried just selecting the white space but this causes the edges to look awful on dark backgrounds.
I've also tried the Grim Color Reaper but cannot find a setting that keeps the icon as it is, only making the edge semi transparent.
I have this icon and I'd like to use it on a website but with interchangeable colors.So, what I'd like to do is create a png file with solid colors simulating the background.And, where the actual icon colors are, use transparency. That way I can specify any color I want in the background and it will filter through!
how I could extract the different alpha transparency information to make the result similar to the pic shown above.I know it's possible as I've followed some tuts but the result isn't exactly the same.
I'd like to find a "play" arrow/button (like on a media player), just a right arrow/button, somewhere and make it semi-transparent, and then place it on top of an existing image.

I need to strip my current image of its background color so that the background color on my website goes thru my image. In other words I need a transparent background for my image.
I have create a new layer that is transparent, but the background color on my website does not go thru it. The background color of this image appears to be grayish not transparent.
How to change the color of an icon (ex: from black to grey). My problem is that the end result is sometimes an icon that is partially transparent.
Here is what I am doing:
1) I open the image of which I want to change the color (black icon over transparent background)
2) Create a new layer and color this in white.
3) Merge the two layers
4) Create a new layer and color this with the color I want for my icon
5) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
6) Select the current color of the icon
7) Click Ok - Now icon color is the wanted color over a white background
8) Create a new layer and leave this transparent
9) Go to Colors -> Color to Alpha
10) Select the white color (current background color).
11) Click Ok - Now icon background is transparent, but icon color is also partially transparent.
Is there a way how I can change the color of an icon without getting the icon color transparent.
On this one particular gif I'm trying to change the background to b1b1b1 for icon use. Somehow whenever I choose that color and use the bucket tool to fill in the background I instead have the background become doe8a0 (the things that look like o's are zeros). I have no clue why it gives me such a different color.

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?
I've been working on a traditional/digital painting, and in my earlier ignorance about computer art programs, I accidentally left a background on it that I would dearly love to remove. Here is the partially-finished painting

creating a signature only seen (signed in black ink,) with a transparent background. I'm a small business owner with employee ID cards. The card background has lines and a few images that I would like the signature to go over with the background being seen as is. When I try importing or copy & paste a gif signature from one of my employee’s onto the business card, the white background still shows. I am using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4.

When I go to import my new image to PrintMaster it gives me a warning that the transparency may turn black. It does darken the transparency and has a noticable rectangle around the image that should have a transparent background. I have tried exporting the image in every form possible and nothing seems to work.

For those times when the background is other shading/pattern, say a 'grayscale' looking shading/pattern...I want to 'adapt' the background of the signature.png to that of the pdf.
So in practice open the pdf, select an area that has different shading/pattern up to the clipboard, and make the background of the signature the same as that in clipboard; with hopes the background will 'blend' into the pdf.
I got an irregular shaped image and I wish to get rid of the white canvas background underneath it.
I used lasso to outline the image.
However, when I right click, the lasso will not disappear.

I have spent some time trying, in PaintShop Pro 7, to create an image with a transparent background to use as a layer over an underlying jpg.
I have now done it in Gimp, and tried it over another image in Gimp - it works. But when I export the image either as a GIF or as a JPG there is no transparency when I paste it over another image in PaintShop Pro.
Perhaps it would be easier to do the whole thing in Gimp, but it would be convenient to be able to do it in PSP too.
i have been trying to import an image (png) with a transparent background into blender as a plane. all gos well until i unselect the plane then there is a blackish gradded border around the image. the image works fine in all other applications just not with blender. i have fooled with all the settings i can with gimp but i'm stuck.

It's originally a JPG image with a white background that I am pasting into GIMP.
I attempted to magic wand what I wanted to keep and then to copy/paste it to a new document, but the image is too intense to highlight it, it is much easier to just highlight the whitespace surrounding it.
I need to make the background transparent, so as usual, I used the fuzzy tool and then, tried to cut the background out, but it actually cuts out more parts then I need it to(it cuts out other parts with similar colours), so is there a way that I can pick a colour specifically and then cut the part with that colour out?

I've set it to combine the layers in the "Save As" pop-up, dithered the image (positioned,) and enabled dithering of transparent while converting to index. Looks fine in Gimp, but after I save it, the alpha layer saves as solid black instead of staying transparent to show the first layer's background. I would like to stay positioned indexed instead of automatically as it keeps the integrity of the image better. Is there a step I missed in keeping the layer's transparent after saving?
