GIMP :: How To Curve Overlay

Oct 2, 2011

I have a perspective image of a tube station. I want to replace an image of a poster with a different one. So I need to apply perspective (I can do this) and make the resultant image curved, to fit the curved wall.

GIMP :: How To Color Overlay Of A Car

Oct 24, 2012

I have a new kitcarn (picture attached) that I want to change the color of but I want to overlay a few different colors on the car first so I can get a feel for how it might look, I just don't know how to go about selecting just the body of the car as this is all I want to change... is it just a matter of creating a duplicate layer and then carefully and slowly using a select tool go around the sections that I want to color and color them in?

I don't know which color I want the car yet so would like to know how to do it myself?

GIMP :: Gradient Overlay Not Working?

I've got a real problem here with the Script-fu Gradient Overlay. Every time I try to use it and click on any of the buttons - see screenshot for full list - it shuts Gimp down. There's no warnings, Gimp just suddenly vanishes and if anything is being worked on then all the changes are lost.

GIMP :: Applying Gradient Overlay To Selection?

Oct 6, 2012

I'm in the process of making a collage which consists of several layers with elements cut out from photographs (=these elements make up the composition). All elements have their separate layer.

My question is how can I apply a gradient overlay to a selection or 1 element(=on seperate layers).

I found how I can apply a gradient overlay but this is for the whole image instead of 1 specific element in the composition.

GIMP :: How To Achieve Color Overlay Effect For Image

Nov 24, 2013

Take a look at the following site:

[URL]

For the background image halfway down, there's a totem pole sort of "merged" in with the color. But it's not simply an overlay blend mode or opacity change. It has essentially seemed to adopt an entire palette based on the background color itself.

I think I recall a way to create this effect in Photoshop, but in GIMP I'm stuck. How would one go about making that "color overlay", given any regular picture and a colored background? I'm doing this for a website, by the way.

GIMP :: Extract Semi-transparent Overlay From Image?

Sep 18, 2012

I am attempting to create screenshots from an old video game and one part of the game includes a semi-transparent overlay layer that I would like to extract into its own image. I am able to render each layer separately in the emulator I'm using, but the screenshot tool is only able to export the final rendered image, so the transparent layer, when rendered alone, still results in a screenshot where it has been merged with the game palette's background color. I have managed to get 2 different copies of the overlay image using 2 different background colors, but I don't know the transparency percentage on the overlay. Is it possible to extract the original semi-transparent overlay with its original colors and transparency levels knowing the original background color? I can get more screenshots with different background colors if that would work. Also, the overlay only has a 5-color palette, so it's not a terribly complex image. I'm attaching the images I have with the background colors included as separate layers in each.

GIMP :: Showing Masks As Overlay And Command To See Layer Underneath Current One?

May 20, 2012

1. Is there a "show quick mask" feature for showing masks?

I know Gimp has a "*Show quick mask*" feature which shows what you have(and haven't) selected by displaying a red overlay over your image, allowing you to add to or subtract from a selection by using the paintbrush, but I haven't found a similar feature for showing masks.

Photoshop has this feature (it's called 'reveal mask' I think) and it basically just shows a red overlay of your mask on your image so that, similar to the quick mask feature in Gimp, you can see where you have and haven't masked through.

(I don't own Photoshop so I'm not sure if the red overlay shows the opacity with which you've masked through or whether or not you can edit the mask when it's being shown as a red overlay.)

2. Is there a command for showing the layer underneath the current layer I'm working on?

This is another feature that I've seen Photoshop has that is useful for blending multiple exposures (and lots of things, really).

Basically it's just a keyboard shortcut for showing the layer underneath your current when you hold down a certain keyboard command (it's not something you toggle since it's meant for quickly viewing what's on the layer underneath your current one).

I know I can press space bar to show or hide the layer I'm currently working on, but I can't do that unless I focus into the layers dialogue first. It'd be nice if I could activate that functionality from anywhere, regardless of whether I'm focused on the layers dialogue.

Do either of these features exist in Gimp?

GIMP :: Transparent Background - How To Overlay Gritty Texture Layer On Shaped Image Only

Mar 27, 2013

With Gimp 2.8 (Mac) I have made a 3D text with a YouTube tutorial. It looks like the Pulp Fiction logo. [URL]...........

How do I overlay a grungy texture, so the letters look 'older'?I tried making the texture image the top layer in the list on the right and then this: right click -> layer -> transparency -> color to alpha. But then, the 'see-through' texture covers the entire square transparent background! Not just the letters...So, how do I add a transparent texture layer over a shaped image that has a transparent background?

GIMP :: Getting Smoother Curve From A Path

Nov 2, 2011

I am attempting to create a curve with the path tool and it seems like if I have a deep curve the curve becomes smooth but if I have a shallow curve (which is what I want), the curve is jagged and not very smooth - see attached thumbnail.

I've tried to convert the path to a selection then sharpen the selection and also add a feather to the selection to try and smooth it out but I have not been successful. How can I get this shallow curve I want but also get the curve nice and smooth?

GIMP :: Warp Logo Around Curve

Aug 31, 2011

I've been using the Gimp for a year or so. I have a project where I'm trying out a logo design on a football helmet. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to use the perspective tool to 'wrap' the logo realistically. The helmet photo is shot at an angle.

I've seen 'morph' plugins that essentially let you set points around an object that correspond to the same points after the pic is 'morphed'. What I'm looking for is a plugin that would allow me to map the straight-on view of the new logo with the points corresponding to the existing 'wrapped' logo to produce a realistic logo.

GIMP :: Path Tool Won't Curve

Sep 24, 2013

I had actually just used it to render something, and went to create a new path to continue my picture. However, the path tool decided it doesn't like to curve anymore so when I click on the line it simply moves the object. I didn't change any settings between finishing my first path and starting the second. It is still in design mode.

I've also wanted to ask if it is possible to link two anchors together when one of the anchors in question is in a complete path. Like, say I have three lines and anchors forming a triangle, shouldn't I be able to link a new anchor to one of the existing ones? Because I sure as heck can't.

GIMP :: Calculate Points For Curve Bend?

Jan 20, 2013

I have a small company doing designs onto mugs, steins, pints, etc. I recently added the ability to do custom photo designs, so now I'm trying to perfect the image curvature for my pint glasses and coming up against a problem.

So - with a pint glass, in order to put a design on it you actually have to curve the image. I'm following this tutorial here - [URL] where he shows how to use GIMP to curve a photo to insert into a tumbler.

I am doing the same process except my dimensions/numbers are different. I need to be able to create the appropriate .points file for my pint glasses but if I use the one he created, my image will be off since the pints don't have the same dimensions as the tumbler he did the tutorial for.

SO - all this to say - how the heck do I calculate what values to put in the points file? For example, on this particular project I need to make an image to be curved up 5/8" on the bottom and 3/4" on the top. He used .25" and .3125" so if I use his file, my designs won't be right.

GIMP :: Curve A White To Black Gradient

Mar 27, 2013

What I'm trying to do is curve a white to black gradient along a windscreen wiper smear for a rail engine cab window I need to texture. I'm building the cab for an engine in RailWorks and to get the wiper to clear raindrops from the screen in time with the wiper motion the texture needs a gradient applied to it from the wiper rest position to full up position.

In the picture the actual wiper smear is all black. What I need to do is have it all white from the vertical part of the smear or the wiper rest position, to all black at the maximum part of its stroke. This means the gradient will be a lot shallower on the outer edge of the arc and a lot steeper at the inner edge of the arc.

GIMP :: How To Create A Curve With Particular Long Brush

Mar 24, 2012

I just got a bunch of new brushes and one of them is a series of 4 stitches that are oriented horizontally and look just like this - - - - . How can i run this in curves so that it still looks like stitches? When I stroke a path it creates a black mess(while using brush). When I drag and draw freehand the results are not much better. Is there anyway to make it so this can follow some sort of curved path? As if you are rolling the brush along a line like a paint roller and keeping the integrity of the brush? I'm using Gimp 2.6.10.

GIMP :: Overlay Portion Of Image With Faded Map With Non-transparent Part Of Second Image

Apr 4, 2012

I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.

I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).

Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.

So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).

I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).

And then my problem:

I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).

Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.

Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.
