GIMP :: How To Transform Text To Curve / Grow
Feb 21, 2013I'm looking to transform the text to curve/grow like the word "Legend" shown in the picture below.

View 3 RepliesI have a edu version of Adobe creative suite CS2. I tried to learn some text effects in online turtorial but I found that feather, modify, grow, similar, transform selection submenu are disabled in the select main menu. I would like to know why and how to make them enable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter GROWing a letter in a word by one or more pixels, I tried to STROKE the action and it didn't seem to work properly. I would like the letter to be totally filled with its solid color... but instead, it just seemed to outline the letter, leaving white space between the new GROW line and the actual letter.
how to end up with a "fatter" letter that's completely filled?
I have been working on a project in which I need to curve text. I know how to curve the text via creating a path, path to text, etc. This issue that I am having is that the bottom of the text is distorted. By distorted, I mean the bottom of the text becomes thin and it looks bad.
Here is an example of the issue that I am dealing with (if it shows up).
I have received details that have been blocked that I need to edit. When I expode or burst them, the dims text and arrows grow larger than is required for the block and I cannot find any adjustment in the properties to bring them back to the correct size for the detail. Also the leaders lose their point and association with their text and become just a line.
Is there a command that will allow me to edit the block without loosing the current sizing and associations?
Say I have a square or a polygon. I want to transform one of the sides from straight to a smooth curve. Is there a way to do this?
I have the pen tool and I'm tracing an object. I want to create one curved side then continue on with straight edges. However the tool insists on creating 2 or 3 curves at a time.
Is there a way to create a single isolated or part of a shape curve thats adjustable with both endpoints. It seems that curves I create often are missing adjustment levers at one of their endpoints making it harder to get the shape I want.
I have checked the road map for GIMP and I have seen that the Unified transform tool can be expected in version 3.8. (ugh)
Now what I would like to ask is there any tool or plugin for GIMP that can transform my selections? Or is there any open source image editor that can do it.
I'm not an artist and just for this I have to use Photoshop. For me PS is an overkill for just cutting up an image.
I was trying to rotate an image, and after successfully doing so, now I can't exit out of the rotate tool. The layer keeps saying (Transformation). How do I get out of this mode? I want to start duplicating this image and rotating them to different positions, but I need to learn how to get out of this mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a project with two layers: (1) a photograph, and (2) a line drawing. The line drawing provides the accurate shape, and I need to stretch the photograph to fit the line drawing fairly precisely. The line drawing is the top layer, and I've already added an alpha layer to it so that I can see the photograph through it. Now I need to rotate, scale, and stretch the photograph to fit. Two questions:
--Does Gimp have a tool akin to P$hop's "free transform," which allows you to rotate, scale, and stretch in a single tool before committing the changes?
--Whenever I start using the rotate or perspective tools, the photograph appears on top (even though it's the bottom layer) and I can no longer see the line drawing. Obviously, this makes it nigh impossible to get an accurate fit. Is there a way of preventing this from happening, so that I can see the transparent top layer even while I'm working on the bottom layer?
how to curve text within a shape, as paragraph text, not artistic text? (See my attached image.)
I have drawn the shape, inserted the text as paragraph text, but the text always wants to sit straight. I am so frustrated as I can find a workaround in either Corel or Adobe CS products. I have tried using artistic text in Corel, but have to do it line by line - and this brings other problems, such as I cant justify each line with each other, and sometimes a character jumps up relative to the other characters and the entire paragraph does not taper in...so this is not a solution, apart from the fact it will take me FOREVER to insert line by line....I would like to treat the text as a multiple line paragraph, and follow the shape.
Using: Xara Photo & Graphic Design 6
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3.10 GHz
2.00GB (1.75 GB usable) RAM
64-bit OS
I follow the tutorial in the Xara Help, but cannot get the results shown. I draw the circle, compose the text, and set it to the middle Select both circle and text Arrange/Fit Text to Curve....the text appears around the lower, right side of the cirle After all this I am unable to manipulate the text (It's a piece of cake to do this in Publisher 2010, but it has some minor problems in appearance)
I'm new here, as well as to script-fu, although I've looked into Scheme and Lisp and know how to program. I'm using Gimp 2.6.12 (the latest version on Linux - Ubuntu 12.04.2)
So, an overview of what I'm trying to do: create a simple clock face (black) with 12 solid white rectangles at the hour marks.
I have a single layer, (black background, white foreground colours), I select a circle, invert the selection and bucket fill.
Then I select a rectangle, fill it, rotate the layer (which cuts out the rectangle, creates a floating selection with it, and rotates that) anchor the flt-sel (and then repeat 12 times).
> (gimp-rect-select image 570 396 25 8 2 0 0) ; select rectangle
(#t)
> (gimp-bucket-fill layer 0 0 100 0 0 0 0) ; fills the selection (stays selected)
(#t)
> (gimp-drawable-transform-rotate layer (/ PI 2) 0 400 400 0 2 0 3 0) ; creates a flt-sel, but returns layer instead of the flt-sel(!?) ...
(4) ; (also deactivates selection)
> (set! fs (car (gimp-image-get-floating-sel image))) ; ... so have to get the flt-sel explicitly
26
> (gimp-floating-sel-anchor fs)
(#t)
This kinda works, but doesn't feel like the optimal way to do it . What I was expecting to do is something like copying the selection, 12 x (rotate and add), bucket-fill.
how can I transform a picture, like a landscape, into a curtain? I mean, if I have my picture I want to "blend" it also with shadows, etc... like this effect: URL.... not red, but as on it there is my picture...
maybe it will be difficult, but how can i do it??
How can I move (rotate or otherwise transform) a Selection.
1. Suppose I have a single Layer, on which I draw an image.
2. Now I activate a Selection Tool (Rectangular, Elliptical, Lasso, etc.) and make a Selection.
3. Then I activate the Move Tool and click on the "Move Selection" option, not the "Move Layer" option. [Oddly, when the "Move Selection" option is activated, there are two greyed out (unavailable) sub-options, both indication "Move Selection".]
4. With the Move Tool, I am able to move the Selection, but not the contents of that Selection.
The Gimp Documentation guide says:"If you click-and-drag the selection without handles, you create a new selection! To move the selection contents, you have to hold down Ctrl+Alt keys and click-and-drag the selection. This makes the original place empty. A floating selection is created. The required key commands may differ on your system, look in the status bar to see if another combination is specified; for example, Shift+Ctrl+Alt."
I have tried every combination of Shift, Ctrl and Alt (Shift+Ctrl, Ctrl+Alt and Shift+Alt). None of these allow me to move the contents of the selection. Further, there are no "handles" on the Selection. I suppose the key is to get the handles to appear, but I have not been able to discover the secret combination of keys to make that happen.
I am running Windows XP Pro.
I want to make some 3D screenshots like Windows Aero or this:
Is it possible to change the images on the individual windows after applying perspective, shadows/etc?
I want to make the overall appearance first, then decide what content to put in the windows.
I need to transform a rectangle part of my picture to a triangle, linearly, only with horizontal distortion, keeping vertical positions in place. (a rectangle to a triangle standing on its side, by moving the top corners to one point).
I tried the Cage Transform: the top of the picture seems good, but it also distorts the bottom line in this case. Other tools seem not suitable at all.
Please see at the problem:

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf one can select multiple layers to modify i.e. scale, rotate, transform... or is it only possible one layer at a time?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a 2010 iMac.
I open a blank file and type "ABC" in any font at at size (but for sake of ease lets say 72 pts in Myriad Pro). I then do a free transform (while holding shift to keep the size correctly scaled) and either enlarg or shrink the text. At that point if I try and change the text point size through the Character panel back to 72 points it sizes to the original size I set the free transform too, or lets say I try to increse the size to 100 pts, it gives me some random size that is not 100 pts. So regarless if I enter the size to 72 points, hit enter, the text will no longer be 72 points.
I run into this issue often because I like to eyeball my text sizes when I'm doing a project and Free Transform is perfect for this. But if I have several text blocks of the same size and I change the size of one and need to match the others to the new size, this issue make matching them very difficult and frustrating.
I know I can fix it by clicking "Character Reset" via the Character panel and then choose my desired font size but that takes time and I don't understand why photoshop wouldn't just give me the font size I choose regarless of free transform or not. Is there a way around this? Is this some setting of Photoshop that I can simply bypas, or is it a glitch with the new CS6 (I do not remember having this issue with CS5)?
Most people that I work with don't use autocad map, they use the regular Autocad. So they can not access the table data of my vectors. Is it possible to transform the table data that I choose and place it as text in the appropriate place ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a older graphics program called Picture Publisher. I used this for years until I eventually moved over to PS. The grow / shrink mask tool in PP is easy to use but I cannot figure out how to do this in PS. Take the letter B in the upper left corner. I can use the mask tool on the B and shrink it, leaving me with the outline of the B. I can shrink or grow the mask by indicating how many pixols to shrink or grow. For the life of me I can't seem to do this in PS. Presently I do it in PP then open the graphic in PS wher I can then use it. Is there a way to accomplish this in PS?

And I wanted to put a picture on the right hand side of the book, to look as though it was part of the book, how would I make the curve of the layer(or picture) to mimic that of the book?
I am attempting to create a curve with the path tool and it seems like if I have a deep curve the curve becomes smooth but if I have a shallow curve (which is what I want), the curve is jagged and not very smooth - see attached thumbnail.
I've tried to convert the path to a selection then sharpen the selection and also add a feather to the selection to try and smooth it out but I have not been successful. How can I get this shallow curve I want but also get the curve nice and smooth?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using the Gimp for a year or so. I have a project where I'm trying out a logo design on a football helmet. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to use the perspective tool to 'wrap' the logo realistically. The helmet photo is shot at an angle.
I've seen 'morph' plugins that essentially let you set points around an object that correspond to the same points after the pic is 'morphed'. What I'm looking for is a plugin that would allow me to map the straight-on view of the new logo with the points corresponding to the existing 'wrapped' logo to produce a realistic logo.
I had actually just used it to render something, and went to create a new path to continue my picture. However, the path tool decided it doesn't like to curve anymore so when I click on the line it simply moves the object. I didn't change any settings between finishing my first path and starting the second. It is still in design mode.
I've also wanted to ask if it is possible to link two anchors together when one of the anchors in question is in a complete path. Like, say I have three lines and anchors forming a triangle, shouldn't I be able to link a new anchor to one of the existing ones? Because I sure as heck can't.
I just installed Illustrator CS6 trial. I have been on Illustrator 9 for years. I am used to clicking on the type tool, then clicking on the artboard and typing a single word. I am not using actual text boxes. When I do that in CS6 I cannot get a bounding box to show me how to resize it using the transform tool (arrow tool). I've gone to view>show bounding box, but it does not do anything.
