View 5 RepliesRecently Photoshop CS6 crashes when I attempt to use the Free Transform Tool through the shortcut (Ctrl+T).
Â
It also crashes very often when using any of the free transform/transform tools via the menu as well, though not as often as the previous listed situation.
I'm animating a picture, have the limbs on different layers, so I can just simply use the free transform tool to rotate them into the good position.
Although it's a pain to always reset the pivot point from the center. Is there a way to make Photoshop remember where I want the pivot point to be?
When I free transform and warp a layer to lie flat, sometimes I'll get this harsh pixellation at one end of the layer. It doesn't appear while I'm doing the warp, just suddenly coming up when I hit enter to apply the transformation.
Â
So for example, Ill be transforming this grid, which is originally about 9x this big.So when I''m running the transformation/warp, it looks like this Not great, but at least most of the lines are still intact on the left and back (the right side is basically fine looking) But once I hit enter, I get this And now like, half the lines I did have are gone, and what's left is super pixelated.
Â
Is there an interpolation setting I could be using? Is it something unavoidable from how distorted I make the layer?
I'm experiencing strange behaviour of the Free Transform Tool.
Free Transform determines the size of the shape including the points handles. Tested the same in Photoshop CS6 but it works normal there. Check the screenshot please:
When you try to allign the shape to other one, this is how Smart Guides works:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Photoshop CC
2. Draw a random shape with Pen Tool.
3. Get the Move tool and hit Free Transform (Ctrl+T).
4. Enjoy!

I am just starting out with the Photoshop CS5 trial. I am trying to apply a triangular pattern to a thin rectangular shape. I used the custom shape tool>triangle, then defined the pattern successfully. However, when I apply the pattern it partially repeats it along the vertical as well as the horizontal axis. Please see attached screenshot:
Â
I only want it to repeat horizontally, what am I doing wrong?
Â
Also, I am Fireworks CS5 user and am really missing the properties inspector panel which allows you to quickly and esily edit sizes of objects, is there a Photoshop equivalent of this?........at the moment the only way I can find to edit objects is through Edit>Free Transform.
From GIMP:
"Revision $Revision: 2435 $2007-12-22P.P
....
When you release the mouse button, the selection is closed by connecting the current pointer location to the start location with a straight line."
I remember this used to be the behavior, but for a long time it only closes for me if I move the pointer very close to the start point, otherwise it just holds on and keeps selecting more every time I click. VERY annoying! At times, if I click very close to the starting point several times, but not close enough, the entire selection changes shape, destroying the selection I just drew.
This is GIMP 2.6.10 on Debian stable.
I have checked the road map for GIMP and I have seen that the Unified transform tool can be expected in version 3.8. (ugh)
Now what I would like to ask is there any tool or plugin for GIMP that can transform my selections? Or is there any open source image editor that can do it.
I'm not an artist and just for this I have to use Photoshop. For me PS is an overkill for just cutting up an image.
Is there a trick/tip to making a straight line with Free Select Tool?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt first I thought it was a touchpad problem, but I discovered that three different optical mice have the same issue + a 4th optical mouse on a different computer also experiences this issue...
particularly when I am using the free select tool, the mouse movements start to get VERY jerky when I am going around corner after corner when my image is zoomed to 100% or greater on a 2500px or larger image, it lots of times causes me to mess up because it jerks around a lot... no other program has this issue, not even other programs where I need to get into tight corners with a mouse!!! this ONLY happens in Gimp!!! other tools have this jerky mouse movement problem to but is experienced mostly using free select!!! How do I fix this Gimp jerky mouse movement issue??? Gimp seems to be the only program with this issue!!!
I choose the Free Select Tool and painstakingly click around the border of something to remove the background. Typically it's a car and I do hundreds of tiny free select points tracing around the car's outline. I make my way around the entire car and double-click to connect the last point with the first one. Then all the selection points disappear, I have no selection around the car, and I'm unhappy.
Here's what happened. Before I started working I inadvertently had done a "Select All". The Free Select Tool was inadvertently left in "Add" mode. GIMP did what it was supposed to do, it added the car outline selection to the "Select All" selection - with the result equal to "Select All" - and there goes all my selection points around the car.
You can end up in the same bad place when "Select None" has been done and you inadvertently left the Free Select Tool in "subtract" mode.
I am having an issue when trying to use the Free Transform function in Photoshop CS5.1. After pressing command+T, the bounding box appears, but when I attempt to resize, the program becomes unresponsive. After a minute or two I can cancel the Free Transform and the program become responsive once again. Seems to be more of an issue when trying to transform more than one layer at once.
Â
I am on a 1 year old MacBook Pro with 16GB, I have 10 GB of free space. I am on OS X 10.7.5 (recently installed this upgrade and this may be part of the issue.)
Â
I am in 64-bit mode. My memory usage set at 70%. The cache tile size is set to 1024K . I have reset my settings, ran all available updates.
Â
My card specs are:
Video Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Video Card Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 6750M OpenGL Engine
Â
After visiting the AMD site, found that they do not have an update for 10.7.5 and do not have the HD6750 listed for Mac.
Â
Edit: Also, cannot move the image once I press command+T. (Or at least it make the program unresponsive for a while)
Â
Update: Uninstalled entire design suite and re-installed. Still having the same issue.
I try to free transform an image whether it be rotating, enlarging, scewing or whatever, after I deselect, photoshop or imageready will automatically try and blur the image around so it seems smoother.
This is fine most of the time, but it produces some transparent pixels, and gifs have problems with these. Is there a way to stop PS and IR from doing this on a free transform so it just leaves the image as it is before deselecting?
i'm trying to stretch some text (but only the top right corner and the top left corner)
some of my transform functions are greyed out (this might have something to do with the problem?)
I can only seem to make the overall text larger/smaller/rotete ect....
Is there any way to use Ctrl + Alt + Z in Free Transform?

I have used this program for years to edit photos before uploading them to my web-site. I have always used the "Free Transform" option to change photo sizing, until today.

Today I went to edit a photo, and the "Free Transform" option (under the "edit" pull down menu) is GONE!

The option is not grayed out (meaning that it is not usable). It is simply gone from the pull down down menu.

I don't know if I accidentally changed an important setting, or if I'm doing something wrong, or if the software has a glitch.

If anyone is knowledgeable or experienced with this matter,.net

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 problems: 1, the crop tool doesn't work, I get something that looks like a midget Free Transform. 2, I can't turn off the Free Transform Tool. In other words, I want to use the Lasso Tool or Rectangular Marquis (is that how you spell it?) with the Free Transform option, which interferes with movement of the selection. I've tried purging the system, shutting off the computer, everything. The crop is dead and the Free Transform is a vampire.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems that in CC the Free Transform tool does not snap to grid when resizing (for example) a rectangle. If I have "Snap to Grid" turned on, it only is taking effect with new objects getting drawn. Am I understanding this correctly? If I draw a rectangle, and want to reshape/resize it to fit the grid, how do I do this? It's a bit embarrassing asking this question, but CC seems to have changed some things from CS6.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 'Tool Options' Box has always been on the left of the screen - at the bottom of the 'Tool box'. I clicked on something yesterday while using the Tool Options Box and somehow moved it. There is now a message there that says 'You can drop dockable dialogs here'. I've tried various things but can't get the Tool Options box back. It's lurking underneath the main Tool Box. I can drag it out and use it, but afterwards it hides again. I know this has to be a dead simple problem but I just can't seem to correct it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI select a bunch of mixed layers like shapes, smart objects and text by dragging my selection marquee around them. I am able to move everything around the art-board but when I Ctrl+T and resize the selected objects, ONLY the shapes are transformed. Everything else remains untouched.
Â
There are too many bugs with CC...this program is quickly becoming unusable.
Â
This problem only seem to happen when I have the Text tool selected and I hold Ctrl and drag to select (it turns into the black arrow). HOWEVER if I press 'V' to select the move tool and drag that and then use Ctrl+T it works as it should. So the problem lies when the user has the Type Tool selected and uses Ctrl+drag to select objects.
First off I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a 2010 iMac.
Â
I open a blank file and type "ABC" in any font at at size (but for sake of ease lets say 72 pts in Myriad Pro). I then do a free transform (while holding shift to keep the size correctly scaled) and either enlarg or shrink the text. At that point if I try and change the text point size through the Character panel back to 72 points it sizes to the original size I set the free transform too, or lets say I try to increse the size to 100 pts, it gives me some random size that is not 100 pts. So regarless if I enter the size to 72 points, hit enter, the text will no longer be 72 points.
Â
I run into this issue often because I like to eyeball my text sizes when I'm doing a project and Free Transform is perfect for this. But if I have several text blocks of the same size and I change the size of one and need to match the others to the new size, this issue make matching them very difficult and frustrating.
Â
I know I can fix it by clicking "Character Reset" via the Character panel and then choose my desired font size but that takes time and I don't understand why photoshop wouldn't just give me the font size I choose regarless of free transform or not. Is there a way around this? Is this some setting of Photoshop that I can simply bypas, or is it a glitch with the new CS6 (I do not remember having this issue with CS5)?
When "show transform controls" is checked and I have a layer selected, a white border shows at the edges of the layer with small boxes at the corners and midpoints. Hovering above one of these boxes changes the cursor into the "scale arrow." Traditionally, clicking the border with that arrow and holding down the mouse button allows you to scale down the layer by dragging the mouse.
Â
In Photoshop CS5 (and perhaps other new versions), clicking the border and holding the mouse button has no effect. Dragging the mouse reverts the pointer into the "selection arrow" and drags the image across the screen instead of resizing it. This is because when you click on the border, it suddenly expands into a larger area. Only by clicking once and then letting go can you move your mouse cursor to the newly defined edge and then scale down the image. This is incredibly frustrating and adds a second, unneeded step in the process. Because I instinctively try to grab hold of the border as is, I usually wind up dragging the image by mistake.
is there a way to change the lock button (maintain aspect ratio... looks like a paper clip) when using the free transform tool. the default setting is NOT proportional (ie the height and width change together in proportion) .. I would like the button to always be in the proportional lock (maintain aspect ratio) since most of my transformations are proportional.... is there a way to make this change???
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is the Free Transform and Crop Crosshair used for?Whenever I transform an image or crop an image it shows up in the center of the image. Is this used as a reference to the center of your image or can you do more with it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used the free transform and/or transform scale many times, and have never had it leave a line. I must have changed something , but can't figure it out. Have played around with the refine edges, and can't seem to make it go away. I am using CS3, and make my selection, then go to stretch it. When I deselect, there is a thin line on the bottom of where the selection was. Why is this happening?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Photoshop CS1.
Often, when I right click and select "Free Transform" and start editing my transformation, Photoshop decides to duplicate the layer. This leaves a layer beneath the layer that I am working on and if I am trying to position the transformation over a layer below that, obviously this is impossible, as the layer is hidden.
