I have checked the road map for GIMP and I have seen that the Unified transform tool can be expected in version 3.8. (ugh)
Now what I would like to ask is there any tool or plugin for GIMP that can transform my selections? Or is there any open source image editor that can do it.
I'm not an artist and just for this I have to use Photoshop. For me PS is an overkill for just cutting up an image.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble pasting selections from GIMP into other programs. If my selection is not rectangular, a black background appears when I paste it that forces it to be a rectangle instead of the shape I actually selected. The program I specifically want to paste into is AutoREALM, but just to test I've tried pasting into MS Paint and MS Word, and the same problem occurs in all of them. Is there anything I can do in GIMP to prevent it from doing this?

I want to select a couple of small rectangles and put them on another page. Perhaps another possibility could be if I could save my selections as separate files (if this were possible) then I could use the "Open as Layers" method which is well described in this forum.
Can one make different (rectangular or otherwise) selections on different layers?
[e.g. I need to "fade" parts of an image in one layer, and need to "blur" different parts of the same image in a different layer... and want to save the different selections (each for "fade" and "blur" layers) for easier, future edit.]
I use the intelligent scissors quite a bit. In some instances, my picture is not a clear cut selection to where I can go around an place anchor points. For instance where the legs of animals cross over each other and pieces of the background show through the legs. Can multiple selections be made with the intelligent scissors? Or am I using the incorrect tool.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm scanning old photos from a photo album. There are a lot of these pages, so taking the pictures out and scanning them would be a huge hassle. The photos are too close on most pages for the scanning software to recognize them as separate images and save them as such.
I'd like to save them as individual pictures, both because that's neater and because some require color corrections.
I'd be able to open up the scanned image, select or outline the picture, and have some script save that selection as an individual file. Super ideally the name would be automatically generated, typing in "1" "2" "3" etc gets old, and I obviously don't want to overwrite. And if I could get automatic color correction before saving or in a batch, that would also be great.
Whenever I have a selection in an image, I can move it around all I want and wherever I want until I anchor it, but when I open that same image again after saving it and then select a part of the image, I can't get my selection to move. Rather the entire image moves and leaves transparent pixels. How do I move selections and not whole images without leaving transparent pixels?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a project with two layers: (1) a photograph, and (2) a line drawing. The line drawing provides the accurate shape, and I need to stretch the photograph to fit the line drawing fairly precisely. The line drawing is the top layer, and I've already added an alpha layer to it so that I can see the photograph through it. Now I need to rotate, scale, and stretch the photograph to fit. Two questions:
--Does Gimp have a tool akin to P$hop's "free transform," which allows you to rotate, scale, and stretch in a single tool before committing the changes?
--Whenever I start using the rotate or perspective tools, the photograph appears on top (even though it's the bottom layer) and I can no longer see the line drawing. Obviously, this makes it nigh impossible to get an accurate fit. Is there a way of preventing this from happening, so that I can see the transparent top layer even while I'm working on the bottom layer?
I'm new here, as well as to script-fu, although I've looked into Scheme and Lisp and know how to program. I'm using Gimp 2.6.12 (the latest version on Linux - Ubuntu 12.04.2)
So, an overview of what I'm trying to do: create a simple clock face (black) with 12 solid white rectangles at the hour marks.
I have a single layer, (black background, white foreground colours), I select a circle, invert the selection and bucket fill.
Then I select a rectangle, fill it, rotate the layer (which cuts out the rectangle, creates a floating selection with it, and rotates that) anchor the flt-sel (and then repeat 12 times).

This kinda works, but doesn't feel like the optimal way to do it . What I was expecting to do is something like copying the selection, 12 x (rotate and add), bucket-fill.
how can I transform a picture, like a landscape, into a curtain? I mean, if I have my picture I want to "blend" it also with shadows, etc... like this effect: URL.... not red, but as on it there is my picture...

1. Suppose I have a single Layer, on which I draw an image.
2. Now I activate a Selection Tool (Rectangular, Elliptical, Lasso, etc.) and make a Selection.
3. Then I activate the Move Tool and click on the "Move Selection" option, not the "Move Layer" option. [Oddly, when the "Move Selection" option is activated, there are two greyed out (unavailable) sub-options, both indication "Move Selection".]
4. With the Move Tool, I am able to move the Selection, but not the contents of that Selection.
The Gimp Documentation guide says:"If you click-and-drag the selection without handles, you create a new selection! To move the selection contents, you have to hold down Ctrl+Alt keys and click-and-drag the selection. This makes the original place empty. A floating selection is created. The required key commands may differ on your system, look in the status bar to see if another combination is specified; for example, Shift+Ctrl+Alt."
I have tried every combination of Shift, Ctrl and Alt (Shift+Ctrl, Ctrl+Alt and Shift+Alt). None of these allow me to move the contents of the selection. Further, there are no "handles" on the Selection. I suppose the key is to get the handles to appear, but I have not been able to discover the secret combination of keys to make that happen.

I need to transform a rectangle part of my picture to a triangle, linearly, only with horizontal distortion, keeping vertical positions in place. (a rectangle to a triangle standing on its side, by moving the top corners to one point).
I tried the Cage Transform: the top of the picture seems good, but it also distorts the bottom line in this case. Other tools seem not suitable at all.

I have about 350 images I am trying to turn into an animated GIF so I can stick them in Flash rather than importing 350 images. When I click "Optimize for GIF" it works, but strips the quality way down. I would rather use a PNG, so if there is a plugin, I would love to hear about it OR if you know a way for the animated GIF to be created without losing quality, that would be awesome.

I have installed the auto_rotate.scm plugin. Now I need to automate a few of the procedures I regularly use it for. After I have selected the Path Tool and marked the two endpoints for the path, I use the following procedure (which is the procedure that needs to be automated):
Select: Windows/Dockable Dialogue/Paths
Right click in the Paths dialogue box
Select: ToolsRotate by PathLanczosOK
Close the Paths dialogue box
I use this procedure a lot and I could really use for it to be automated. If possible, I'd like the activation to be as simple as pressing a hotkey.

I use gimp for image processing in my job as Forensic Questioned Document Examiner. One of the requirements when we elaborate an image is to be able to relate what modifications have been done to the image, in order to make the result reproducible.
So I was wondering: is there a feature or plugin that records all the modifications, filters, ... applied to an image (taking of course into account undos etc), and perhaps saves them into the resulting file (gimp format at least ) for later reference and inspection?
I just wrote a very specific python plugin for someone who uses Gimp on OSX. The plugin doesn't appear in her menus so the installation may not be correct.
1) are there accurate instructions to install python plugins somewhere (preferably in the user's Gimp profile)? Is there a need to set some "executable" flag on the file (and if so how)?
2) in case the plugin doesn't register properly due to some syntax error, is there a way to check that out? On Linux one would start Gimp form a terminal, on Windows I believe gimp-console does it, but hat is the equivalent on OSX?
3) can some knowledgeable OSX user test that my plugin works correctly (PM me a mail address where I can send the plugin)
I've been a GIMP user for a couple of years and have just encountered a new and unexpected problem with version 2.8.4. I'm attempting to export a file to JPEG format, and am receiving the message:
"Saving 'FILENAME' failed: JPEG image plug-in could not save image."
I ensured I had adequate disk space, tried saving to different locations (including other drives on our network), tried resizing the image, and nothing will work. The message just recurs each time, no matter what I try.
registry.gimp.org seems not to be working.

I put the plugin under "program files/gimp/share/gimp/2.0/script" and also tried, under "c:/users/gimp 2.8/ plugin" folder.I don't know if I am trying to put the plugin in the right folder to work? I am running windows 7, 64bit.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded/installed the PPA for Gimp 2.9.1. It worked great for the first half dozen 16-bit tiffs.I use a few RAW converters to create these tiff tiles, RawTherapee, UFRAW, and the Sony software supplied with my A700 DSLR, Image Data Converter running through Wine.
At any rate, most of the tiffs I create now cause Gimp to crash when opening new files. I get this message: Plug-in crashed: "file-tiff-load" and Opening '/home/caruso/Desktop/PHOTOS from IDC/DSC06219.tif' failed:
Files created previously continue to open as normal.
I was so thrilled to have succeeded in installing 2.9.1 on my system, but now may have to uninstall it and fall back to 2.8.x.I realize that 2.9.1 is experimental and unstable, but would like to know if this is something simple that can be fixed.
