View 3 RepliesAt first I thought it was a touchpad problem, but I discovered that three different optical mice have the same issue + a 4th optical mouse on a different computer also experiences this issue...
particularly when I am using the free select tool, the mouse movements start to get VERY jerky when I am going around corner after corner when my image is zoomed to 100% or greater on a 2500px or larger image, it lots of times causes me to mess up because it jerks around a lot... no other program has this issue, not even other programs where I need to get into tight corners with a mouse!!! this ONLY happens in Gimp!!! other tools have this jerky mouse movement problem to but is experienced mostly using free select!!! How do I fix this Gimp jerky mouse movement issue??? Gimp seems to be the only program with this issue!!!
I choose the Free Select Tool and painstakingly click around the border of something to remove the background. Typically it's a car and I do hundreds of tiny free select points tracing around the car's outline. I make my way around the entire car and double-click to connect the last point with the first one. Then all the selection points disappear, I have no selection around the car, and I'm unhappy.
Here's what happened. Before I started working I inadvertently had done a "Select All". The Free Select Tool was inadvertently left in "Add" mode. GIMP did what it was supposed to do, it added the car outline selection to the "Select All" selection - with the result equal to "Select All" - and there goes all my selection points around the car.
You can end up in the same bad place when "Select None" has been done and you inadvertently left the Free Select Tool in "subtract" mode.
How do I draw a perfectly straight line...?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just recently caught up to 2.8 (From 2.4 something or other believe it or not ) and amongst a couple of things I have to say I don't like is the fact that previously when setting a path, if I wanted it to be either perfectly horizontal or vertical I could see by the steps in the path preview line whether it was or not.
With the new version, initially at least, that's no longer the case. As I tend to work with straight lines a lot of the time it's proving to be a bit of a pain. Is there any way to set the path preview line to show the steps again to indicate a straight line.
I have a cheap mouse and quite frequently while using the free select tool, one click will result in Gimp automatically connecting the current points to the beginning of the path. my mouse is to blame and I experience mouse issues in other programs too... mainly one click will result in double click actions.
so I was wonder how/if I can turn off the feature where double clicking would connect the path of the free select because I kinda have to refrain from using the free select tool because I don't get very far before it connects itself to the beginning.
how to merge what I am doing with the Magic Wand (Fuzzy Tool) & Free Select (The Lasso)
I am needing to separate plane parts from one another where the yellow arrows are in the Alpha Channel and cannot figure out how to do that.
I decided to draw a long box, 2 pixels wide and fill it with the desired color. That was all fair and well until I tried reducing my image and then the nice looking spider web line that I drew turned into a horrible black and white block line that looks crap.
So, I decided to try and get rid of it, and here I am 45 minutes later still trying to get rid of it. I don't what layer it is on, there are many layers, whenever i find the layer it is and delete it it then turns up in another layer in a different color. I've tried copying and pasting over layers, it just keeps coming back, I don't know what is going on anymore, it wont go away....
How to draw a simple freaking straight line in GIMP by clicking on a point and then clicking on another point?
How do I draw a straight line in GIMP? I'm guessing all those tutorials are aimed at windows users. But I use Debian. Also tried ctrl, alt etc.
I have to wonder what kind of reasoning went into deciding not to have a line tool. It seems so simple to implement compared to all that advanced stuff. The only decent way to make a line currently that I can see is to make a square by filling a selection, shrinking, deleting, then delete all the sides of the square that i don't want. But this is so inefficient to do every time I need a line.
Is it possible to create a straight line by using coordinates instead of left clicking on a specific point(my hands are just to shaky when using a mouse to get the exact coordinate) then holding shift and then taking forever trying to get that perfect end point pixel location.

When you release the mouse button, the selection is closed by connecting the current pointer location to the start location with a straight line."
I remember this used to be the behavior, but for a long time it only closes for me if I move the pointer very close to the start point, otherwise it just holds on and keeps selecting more every time I click. VERY annoying! At times, if I click very close to the starting point several times, but not close enough, the entire selection changes shape, destroying the selection I just drew.
This is GIMP 2.6.10 on Debian stable.
I have around 20 differently sized layers that I am trying to arrange into a straight horizontal line. I want them next to each other so that one layer's right edge is the same as the next layer's left edge. I also want them all on the bottom edge of the image. I've tried the Align tool and the Align Visible Layers option under Image, and neither have worked.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI notice that when I hit shift to create a straight line, it seems to be straight in about 1° increments.
Is there anywhere that I can specify the increment angle? Mostly, I make 90° straight lines, so I'd like to up this increment so that there is a more noticeable space in between the increments.
I want to move a layer or a selection in a straight line.
for example: I have a layer and only want to move it horizontally and NOT vertically.
Is it possible in GIMP? If yes, how?
I'm pretty new and have a simple problem that for some reason I can't figure it out! And that is how to make a series of lines on the image that are all perfectly horizontal or perfectly verticle. This will be part of a chart and the lines will be dividers. So the chart will have basically 21 rectangles with 3 rectangles across and 7 rectangles down.
So, I KNOW how to use the straight line tool to make the vertical and horizontal lines but I don't know how to keep the lines perfectly vertical and horizontal and parallel with each other!

If I use the eraser tool to remove parts of a straight horizontal line, the resulting lines are not 180°.

Is there any keystroke combinations that will draw a perfectly straight vertical line?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the fuzzy select tool to select a contiguous region of white background (to make it transparent). The flower has some white areas and it selects a small area of the flower too.
I have another whitish flower and I have no problem with fuzzy selecting the white background.....except when I add contrast to the image (and the white areas are also selected). I haven't found a way to add contrast after fuzzy selecting/adding an alpha channel. Is there a way to do this?
I am trying to align some stuff and having a heckuva time. Its basically this..
word * wordyword * wordhere * wordwordword
the * are little blue dots centered horiz and vert.Everybody is on their own layer.I am trying to get everyone equidistant, the words aligned bottom and the dots aligne center vertical.
I select the align tool, then click on word. Next holding shift I drag everything else and it is all selected. K. I have trimmed all the layers so all that is there are the things I want to align.
I have tried clicking everything in the options box and the closest I get is with distribute horizontal centers with offset but that leaves me with odd spacing.. if I simply select the text it is better, but the spacing is still not right..
When I use my mouse to use select tools (like the lasso, the outline lines that appear (that show the selected area) show up fine. When I use my tablet, usually, they are not visible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get the distribute tool to distribute some text objects (for a website menu) evenly. however, using the distribute section of the alignment tool only enables me to set an offset that measure the distance between the left, center or right edge of each object. if the objects are different widths, they will have varying distances between their edges.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using GIMP 2.6.11. When I use the line tool and left click + shift to snap a line from point to point, there's no preview line that shows exactly where the line is going to be drawn. In former version(s) of GIMP, I could clearly see where the line was going to be placed because of this feature. I miss it because when doing technical drawings precision and exact angles are needed. Is this feature not included with GIMP 2.6.11? How I can get this tool to work like it used to?
