GIMP :: Pressure Sensitivity For Tablets?
Jun 9, 2013I have a Digipro tablet that I'm trying to use with GIMP on Mac OS X. I cannot get the pressure sensitivity to work. I've tried:
1) Setting the Quartz Pen in Input Devices to Screen Mode (also Quartz eraser) so that it will detect the pen.
2) Creating a new dynamic and adjusting pressure settings. The pen is detected but pressure settings aren't applied. Preset pressure dynamics don't work, either.
3) Making sure the pen pressure is working; it works fine in photoshop.
Does GIMP 2.8 not support Digipro?

Jun 4, 2011Is there a way to make the color select tool not only select a specific color but related shades as well. I have a graphic that is mainly shades of gray but with black outlines and divisions as well as other colors mixed in. I want to shift all the shades of gray to shades of dark yellow without have to select each shade individually.

Jun 21, 2011I am using the fuzzy select tool to select a contiguous region of white background (to make it transparent). The flower has some white areas and it selects a small area of the flower too.
I have another whitish flower and I have no problem with fuzzy selecting the white background.....except when I add contrast to the image (and the white areas are also selected). I haven't found a way to add contrast after fuzzy selecting/adding an alpha channel. Is there a way to do this?
GIMP :: Select Align Tool
Aug 8, 2013I am trying to align some stuff and having a heckuva time. Its basically this..
word * wordyword * wordhere * wordwordword
the * are little blue dots centered horiz and vert.Everybody is on their own layer.I am trying to get everyone equidistant, the words aligned bottom and the dots aligne center vertical.
I select the align tool, then click on word. Next holding shift I drag everything else and it is all selected. K. I have trimmed all the layers so all that is there are the things I want to align.
I have tried clicking everything in the options box and the closest I get is with distribute horizontal centers with offset but that leaves me with odd spacing.. if I simply select the text it is better, but the spacing is still not right..
GIMP :: Fuzzy Select Tool Selects WAY Too Much Even At Threshold Of 1 At 2
Jan 21, 2014i tried restarting gimp but it did not fix my problem. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, my fuzzy select tool selects WAY too much even at a threshold of 1. at 2 it just selects the whole picture.Re-installing did not fix.
i am creating black/white based icons. So it is a 48x48 image. i am mainly trying to fuzzy select black, white, and transparent selections. As you can guess, it has become impossible now and i don't know what i did.
EDIT: Okay so it actually isn't selecting "too much" per-say. i willt ry and explain the best i can here:
Black and white image with the exception of some shades inbetween.Select fuzzy select and put threshhold at 1. Click. Selects all the white (i actually think it misses some). i hit SHIFT and click on a pixel that is slightly not white. VERY SLIGHTLY. In fact, it may actually be white. It fuzzy selects EVERYTHING.
Another example on an image that is Black and Transparent (with shades inbetween) Slect black on threshold 1. It selects All the black AND all the shades inbetween. Eveything except flat out transparent. i hit CTRL and select a shad einbetween and it deselects everything.
EDIT 2: Doesnt matter the threshold apparently. It will do this on any.
EDIT 3: The solution, after all, was so save these problematic images as JPG and then open them as the JPG.
GIMP :: How To Select Portion Of Image Using Rectangle Tool
Nov 27, 2012I'm brand new to GIMP, I just downloaded it to get into some simple pixel art.
I was going fine, but I've run into a problem. I'm trying to select a portion of my image using the rectangle tool, and then move it to a different location using the move tool. However, when clicking and dragging the move tool it shifts the entire image, not just the portion I have selected. I read in the FAQ that you need to press "Enter" to finalise the selection before you move it, but even doing that doesn't work.
This was working fine for me earlier, I'm not sure what I've done to break it. I've tried resetting my tool preferences back to defaults but that has not worked.

Mar 28, 2012 I was using Paint.net but I've found it too limited. The GIMP has much more power and I can do a lot more with it, but I've found a few things I can't figure out how to do.
For example, when I use the Eyedropper tool () to choose a color, GIMP doesn't seem to include any transparency in the selection:
The Colorpicker just chooses the color at 100% opacity. Is there any way to change this so that my new foreground color includes the transparency level?
GIMP :: Select Tool Won't Allow To Drag And Drop Anymore
Jul 13, 2011I'm just getting back into image editing after a year of hiatus, and so I downloaded the newest version of gimp so I could get started. My select tool worked fine for a few minutes, then stopped letting me move pieces of my layer around. I was thinking maybe I accidentally changed a setting, so I fiddled with that, but no luck.
Select will still let me highlight and edit specific pieces of the layer, just not move them around. When I drag and drop, the piece of my layer appears as if I've selected nothing, and I'm only working on a single layer at the moment.
GIMP :: Select By Color Tool Won't Work Properly?
Jul 13, 2013I'm looking at tutorials on how to add strokes to text (I downloaded it today) and they say to use the color select tool. In their demonstration, when they select text, it has the normal dotted lines around it. For me, when I click it just has a thick border around it and it tells me to move my mouse to change the threshold. It won't select the text, just change the threshold when moving my mouse from left to right.

Apr 19, 2012When I copy a selection from one image to another, I can't select the feather tool to blend it in the new image (it's greyed out). I have to first anchor the layer, then use the paths tool to re-select the pasted portion again, then feather. Is there another way?
Update: Looks like I can feather before copying/pasting the selection.

Jul 16, 2012i'm basically making a shape with the pen tool, then i click the paint bucket, then the shape disappears. i've also done this with the rectangle tool and the exact same thing happens.
usually, it will work when i frst open the document, but after i start making new layers/text then i try to do this, the shape i make disappears.
how i can keep the shape so i can select the paint bucket tool?

Dec 31, 2012At first I thought it was a touchpad problem, but I discovered that three different optical mice have the same issue + a 4th optical mouse on a different computer also experiences this issue...
particularly when I am using the free select tool, the mouse movements start to get VERY jerky when I am going around corner after corner when my image is zoomed to 100% or greater on a 2500px or larger image, it lots of times causes me to mess up because it jerks around a lot... no other program has this issue, not even other programs where I need to get into tight corners with a mouse!!! this ONLY happens in Gimp!!! other tools have this jerky mouse movement problem to but is experienced mostly using free select!!! How do I fix this Gimp jerky mouse movement issue??? Gimp seems to be the only program with this issue!!!
GIMP :: 2.8 - Rectangle Select Tool / New Square Position At Cursor
May 17, 2012Recently upgraded to Gimp 2.8 for the single window mode (which worksbrilliantly in Ubuntu, especially with the HUD).
But the Rectangle Select Tool has a new - but odd - behaviour. When I drawa selection, and then add to that selection, a new "square" is position atmy cursor. (See attached screenshot.) This didn't happen in 2.6 and is abit irritating because it disorientates me slightly, especially if I'mworking quickly.
Is there a way to turn that off (or revert it to the 2.6 way)?
GIMP :: Free Select Tool - Selection Points Disappear
Dec 2, 2012I choose the Free Select Tool and painstakingly click around the border of something to remove the background. Typically it's a car and I do hundreds of tiny free select points tracing around the car's outline. I make my way around the entire car and double-click to connect the last point with the first one. Then all the selection points disappear, I have no selection around the car, and I'm unhappy.
Here's what happened. Before I started working I inadvertently had done a "Select All". The Free Select Tool was inadvertently left in "Add" mode. GIMP did what it was supposed to do, it added the car outline selection to the "Select All" selection - with the result equal to "Select All" - and there goes all my selection points around the car.
You can end up in the same bad place when "Select None" has been done and you inadvertently left the Free Select Tool in "subtract" mode.
Illustrator :: AI 5.5 / What Is Brown Select Rectangle Appearing When Click Select Tool
Oct 9, 2012When I click the select tool, a brown selection type of rectangle appears in a particular area of the illustration, even though I have not clicked on the illustration yet. I assume it is some type of warning indication, but don't know what. P.S. It is draggable and scaleable - I can move it off the artboard. An example:

Jun 18, 2013I know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
Photoshop :: Why Won't Quick Select Tool Select Transparent Canvas
Jul 15, 2013I remember being able to select anything on the canvas with my Quick Select tool in CS5.5 Photoshop Extended. Recently, making the switch to CC, the Quick Select tool will show my slection as I drag along the canvas, but once I release the mouse, the selection seems to be reduced to the visible pixels. I was intentionally trying to fill the transparent sections with my effects as well.
Mind you, the magic wand will select transparent pixels just fine, but it also adds unintentional sections which is irritating. I should probably also pint out that I already looked into the "lock transparence" option in the layers, but I did not activate anything of the sort.

Jul 25, 2005I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum, but it seems to apply to techniques, so...I'm looking at Wacom tablets and hoping to buy one soon. My primary use would be for digital painting in Photoshop and the 6x8 size seems to be about right. Can anyone make any suggestions about whether I should go with Intuos or Graphire? I'm leaning toward the Intuos3 6x8, but that can get a bit pricey, even with academic discounts.
So I guess I have two questions. a) Does the Graphire series have what it takes to allow high-quality digital painting? b) Is there some way to find tablets for a lower price (I qualify for most academic discounts)?
