Illustrator :: Can Use Transform Tool To Resize Individual Text?
Dec 11, 2012
I just installed Illustrator CS6 trial. I have been on Illustrator 9 for years. I am used to clicking on the type tool, then clicking on the artboard and typing a single word. I am not using actual text boxes. When I do that in CS6 I cannot get a bounding box to show me how to resize it using the transform tool (arrow tool). I've gone to view>show bounding box, but it does not do anything.
Whenever I try to resize a text box with the selection tool, it won't allow me to resize. I tried the text tool as well, but it didn't work. I don't want to resize the text, just show text that is hidden. I'm currently using CS4.
When I enter a value, such as 2.2, as the height in the Transform box, AI automatically changes the value (to 2.1944, in this case). Is there any way to fix this?
(I have deslected "Align New Objects to Pixel Grid" and have deleted the AIPrefs file. I am working with AI CC and Windows 7.)
At some point, several months ago, my sister and I were playing with transform (by phone, we are in different states) -- she had taken a Photoshop class and wanted to try to duplicate something.
I tried using my type tool yesterday, and couldn't see anything when I typed. (White background, black text, Arial, 14 pt, 100%). I've tried clearing type presets. I finally tried blowing it up to 500% and saw a small, gray font-like image where I was typing.
I held down Ctrl and played with the transform box: if I expanded the box, my text is there. I've tried clicking on everything at the top when in transform. How to get my type tool entering text in the regular way.
I thought I once knew how to change the leading of an individual letter in a text, but now I can't remember how to. Do you know the short cut? An example would be using the word Tooth and changing the T to have the top aligned with the cross of the other t in the word!
Using transform tool to rotate, often gradients do not rotate. In the example below only the "w" gradient did. Good news is the rotate tool works fine.
Appears this has something to do with compound paths, as this normally does not happen on a new single path. Releasing the compound also rotates the gradient unexpectedly.
I took photos with a DSLR some with a point and shoot, and a lot with my phone camera. DSLR photos are all good quality and when I export I want all of them to keep their original size, point and shoot photos should be reduced in size by about 20~40% depending on the crop I made and zoom when I shot. Phone pics need to be reduced by around 50% or more. One pixel size on export doesn't cut it since all photos are cropped and have various sizes but only some need reduced sizes due to phone camera taking bigger pictures than the quality keeps up with.I need some sort of 'export size for full sized jpeg' or something. (Without exporting each picture individually that is)
When resizing a vector group in Illustrator CS5 with a custom made symbol in the group I get distortion of the proportion of the shape.
Tried resizing with selection tool holding down shift or option Turning off align to pixel grid in the transform panel Turning off align to pixel grid in the symbol option Checking Enabled Guides for 9-slice scaling is turned on Checking Scale Stroke & Effects is turned off in preferences
Exactly how does one change the size of the text bounding box, without scaling the text or changing the font size?I have a method now, but it is very inconvenient. I am looking for something to improve workflow.
This used to be so simple: grab the corner of the text block with the Selection tool, and drag the corner around until my text block is the right size. In CS6, I grab the corner of the text block with the Selection tool, and all I can do is scoot the text block around the page without changing its size.
1. Lately I can't resize an object. The surrounding border of the object is with filled rectanglers and not with hollow rectangler. Thus, I can't resize objects - how can I fix it ?
2. When I try to mark text, it's mark it perfectly but I can't see the higlighting even though I choose it. How can I mark text and see the text marked (chosen text marked)
I have tried to reset my bounding box and also hidden and unhidden edges. It won't let me resize anything. Where there used to be an resize cursor, there is just a default cursor.
I have the following image. This is for schools as a fundraiser product/promo product.
What i have in green is the text box. I want it to adjust the text height and width itself depending on how much text is in the box while keeping a universal textbox size. Is there a way to do that?
I have switched my "mouse" over to the number keypad like it says to do for the touchpad computer. I go to tranform image size and the outline surrounding the photo only moves up/down or side-to-side. How do I get the outline to move at the corners so I can easily manipulate the size? Either way - FN, CTRL, Win or other buttons do nothing to enlarge photo to where I want to set it. How can I accomplish this - any experts on touchpad conversion to number keypads out there? This is Win8 with PSE11. I just want this computer to get up to par to do some photo editing.
I would like to be able to create a box around text that is able to resize when increasing/decreasing font.
My working solution is to create a text box with text then use direct selection tool to select the anchors and convert that into a shape, either a rectangle or rounded rectangle. This isn't bad since it allows an equal amount of space around the text but it does have problems. If the font size increases or decreases, the box remains the same. I have to use the Area Type Option to resize the box. Also, if I wanted to do this for lots of boxes then I have to select all of the individual anchors which will be time consuming.
I've read the manual on selecting colors for tools - like text, rectangle - but find nothing about saving a "preferred" color selection for various tools. Searched forum as well. Admittedly, this may be a bit below the general use of Pdn.
1) I gather there is no one - click "text box" tool / function. True? Where you select a region, it fills in a background color of choice, then you click in box & start typing - & text color is also saved from earlier choice.
2) Among other things, I'd like to at least be able to save / set a color that Pdn will use every time I draw a rectangle (unless I change it), & also set a different color for text tool. If I understand, the way you change colors as you select different tools is, must click the tool icon, then click the color you want - EACH time (if different than current primary color selection).
Is there no way to save a "default" color (say Red) that Pdn will use each time you select the text tool, and (say, yellow) each time you click rectangle tool? Many prgms save color selections made for each tool
I read the help section on working w/ palettes, but that doesn't assign / save specific colors to specific tools. Unless I missed something (quite likely), you have to continually select colors each time you use a new tool (if you want it to use a different color than currently showing in Primary Color box). This seems like a lot of unnecessary clicking, if you typically want (for example) to always use a specific color for rectangles & another for text. Seems like that should be default behavior, instead of clicking color selection every time you change tools?
In CS5 if I choose the either the Transform or Free Transform tools (having created a new layer for the image) I get an error message saying ‘could not transform because the initial bounding rectangle is empty’.
I’ve used the Transform tool successfully in the past and have checked through the Adobe instructions carefully (there isn’t much to them really) and I cannot see what’s wrong.
I created text on a curved path using the pen tool and the the type on a path tool. However, there are portions of the text that I want to taper. For example, my text begins horizontally, continues to the right, and gradually curves downward. As the text curves downward I would like it to taper smoothly into a narrower and narrower text.
I have one problem. I'm using transform tool to scale part of image, but it doesn't look good. Maybe I should use liqify tool but I really don't like it. Here is example of how it looks, at the top left corner of this site [URL]....
Recently Photoshop CS6 crashes when I attempt to use the Free Transform Tool through the shortcut (Ctrl+T).
It also crashes very often when using any of the free transform/transform tools via the menu as well, though not as often as the previous listed situation.
I just installed CS6 last night on my laptop and I was super excited to use it..As I was about to edit a picture, I pressed the Ctrl+T... next thing you know, photoshop cs6 just crashes. My OS is Windows 8, photoshop cs6 64-bit, it's the latest version too!.
What is happening is whenever I use any transform tool in Photoshop it will freeze, the window won't go white like frozen windows normally do in W7 but it'll just sit there being completely unresponsive to clicks. The only way to quit is to go into the task manager. The other notable thing is whenever this happens I can't just restart Photoshop, I have to restart Windows completely! it even screws over other Adobe software, Dreamweaver won't work either once this error has occured.
Not only that but OpenGL never works anymore either, I can use Photoshop for like thirty minutes before OpenGL stops working. This one's obviously less intrusive but I still enjoy having the OpenGL features on.
The only other symptom I can think of is that once the issues start happening (or just before they're about to happen) the cursor will dart very quickly all over the screen. The actual clicks themselves will still happen in the right location but the visual cursor itself will constantly be moving, like half of the time it'll be in its right spot, the other half it'll be in a random position. I've tried unplugging both the tablet and the keyboard/mouse reciever but it still darts everywhere.
Everything else on the computer works fine, it's just Adobe software playing up.
I have tried: - Adjusting performance options thoroughly - Disabling graphic card features - Reinstalling CS6 - Switching to 32 bit CS6 - Reverting back to CS5/CS3 (it still happens on those ones too) - Trying four different versions of video drivers (320.18, 314.22, 310.70, 306.23) - Reinstalling Windows 7
Is there a function, script or way to use the type-in transform tool in the unwrap edit window? I know there was a script (Unwrap Tools 1.6) a few years ago I used with 2009 but you had to overwrite max's default unwrap edit window, and I don't want to do that. I'm using 2012 design now
