GIMP :: Autocrop Images?
Feb 21, 2011
I have a problem, been trying to solve it for many days. I would like to 'batch process' many images. I have loads of PNGs with tranparent backgrounds, I love the auto-crop feature, I'd like to automatically do this to hundreds of images. Basically these images have a small picture in the middle, with lots of blank space around them, I'd like to get rid of this space. It would take really long to autocrop each one manually.

Does anyone know of a way to automate adjusting the cropping frame
after straightening a picture using the Measure tool?
I have a friend who is verticality challenged. He seems incapable of
getting a shot straight. He just shot a big Christmas party and has
over a hundred shots to straighten. I have to straighten one
occasionally myself. It seems tedious and unnecessary to have to
adjust the cropping frame every time after straightening the picture.
I teach elementary photoediting using all versions PS and PSE.
Somewhere along the line I ran across a version of PSE that
automatically did this. It fit the cropping frame to the picture
content so, if you just wanted to remove the exposed canvas you could
click crop and you were done.

But I wouldn't be able to upload a hundred tiny, plain images. I made this to add onto the background removal FAQ. I hope it's accepted.

I have two images that I didn't create, but need to be re-sized. A wide gradient bar with rounded-corners and a box with rounded corners (attached). I suspect I may need to recreate these in GIMP (unless there's another way).

When I have a photo that has come out portrait rather than landscape which is a normal case the rotate function seems to cut off some of the two sides of the photo. If I want to rotate it what I call correctly I use Gnome Image Viewer.
Why can't I rotate images similarly with Gimp?

My Gimp version……2.6.8.
Until recently Gimp has either supported transparency of .png image files or automatically added an alpha channel to the image. This I don't know. I do a lot of rendering and have always been able to take a .png or convert any image type to a .png, create a path, and delete everything outside of the path and end up with a transparent background.
But something has changed where I must now manually add an alpha channel to a .png image in order to end up with a “transparent background”. what changed in Gimp that I can no longer just erase or delete a selected area of a png resulting in a transparent area?

I've recently installed GIMP. It is a bit daunting for me at this stage but I'm getting there. My main interest is enhancing photos.
Is there a way to stitch two images together? I can't find any reference to this.
Also, is there an index type search facility to find information on a specific topic? The manual is good but a key word search facility would be very useful. Again I can't find one..

I have two satellite images that I am comparing to look for changes in topography between the two dates at which the images were taken. I was going to use the Layers Divide Mode, but the problem is that any brightness changes AND non-changes show up as white (the algorithm gimp uses is 256*Image1/(image2+1) ), so you can see if the pixels of image1 and 2 are the same, it'll give a pixel with value 256, and if image 1 has brighter pixel than image 2, it will give a value greater than 256...which gets converted back to 256. I've also looked into the Difference and Subtract modes, but they take absolute values or sets anything negative to 0, which skews my results. Basically, I'm wondering if there is something in gimp which will allow me to compare the two images, kind of like creating a ratio image in ENVI where darker colors stand for darkening over time, whiter colors stand for brightening, and greyish colors show non-changes. I want to divide one pixel value by the other, and use that value to create a new ratio image.

I am starting a decal business and i have jpg's of all the decal designs in black on a white background. I need to batch colorize a bunch of images, i figured out how to do it individually and save but i need to colorize all the images in a folder and save with a different name. i found a great script to batch convert jpgs to pngs, and am trying to edit it to work.
i think just the line in red needs to be written correctly.
(define (colorize it DirectoryName)
(let*
(
(fileExtension ".jpg") ; we are looking for .jpg files
(varFileList (cadr (file-glob (string-append DirectoryName DIR-SEPARATOR "*" fileExtension) 1) ) ) ; find them all

I have managed to reset the print size for smaller images (7,5 by 5 centimetres) and they have worked fine. But now I need a print 90 mm (9cm) by 150mm (15 cm) and even after unlocking the chain the print comes out at 150 by 115 mm...I've tried it about 50 times now and it's always the same.

I What I'm trying to do is take an image off the net (mainly Marvel and DC characters) and open them up in GIMP and making the "reverse" image of that file. So I will have the character twice, but when printed I can paste the two back to back and they both show the same image, back and front....hope that made sense.
Also, how would I put, lets say, 5 images on one sheet of paper? I don't want to print just one image on 1 sheet and waste so much paper. I'd like to get 4 -6 on 1 sheet of paper, print them out and glue them back to back for my paper miniatures.

Toady I've noticed that Gimp opens high quality jpg images in lower quality than their original ones.I made sure by opening the image using another software, and it gave me apparent good jpg quality that i expect. Please check attachments (see the red button).Noting that when i saved the opened image form Gimp using the maximum quality (100%), it saved in a lower quality that was on-screen visible when it was opened. it is a bug?
I'm using Gimp 2.8.2 on a Windows 7 machine.

I've just installed Gimp 2.8.10 on my fresh Win 8.1 x64 installation and I cannot export or open any type of image 'cos there isn't a single option to choose a file type when exporting and also, Gimp doesn't recognise images on my hdd when I try to open them.
So far I've used Gimp on Win 7 x64 and didn't have any problems. The only driver I currently have installed on my system is the graphics driver.

I am brand new to GIMP. I just installed the latest version (2.6) and tried to open an image file from my computer. I clicked open, and went to a folder on my computer that has lots of jpegs in it. None are appearing for me to open in GIMP however. I tried a different folder with images in it and got the same result. I have it set for "All Images".

How do you blend different images together into one smoothly? For example, in this picture.
I've tried to do that, but it always ends up awkwardly, and I can tell there has been an effect applied on this picture.

I am making groups of graphs for a project, and I want to re-arrange which graphs are in which files. (So let's say right now I have:
file 1: gaphs A,B,C,D
file 2: graphs E,F,G,H
But I want:
file 1: graphs A,B,G,H
file 2: graphs C,D,E,F
Each graph is made up of about 10 layers, so I'd like to move groups between the files together as one unit.
