GIMP :: Won't Open Images
Aug 31, 2012When I go to the open menu and navigate to a jpg image and click "OPEN", nothing happens. The open dialog stays but the buttons are greyed out.

GIMP :: JPG Images Open In Bad Quality?
Feb 7, 2013Toady I've noticed that Gimp opens high quality jpg images in lower quality than their original ones.I made sure by opening the image using another software, and it gave me apparent good jpg quality that i expect.Please check attachments (see the red button).Noting that when i saved the opened image form Gimp using the maximum quality (100%), it saved in a lower quality that was on-screen visible when it was opened. it is a bug?
I'm using Gimp 2.8.2 on a Windows 7 machine.
GIMP :: Cannot Export Or Open Images
Jan 16, 2014I've just installed Gimp 2.8.10 on my fresh Win 8.1 x64 installation and I cannot export or open any type of image 'cos there isn't a single option to choose a file type when exporting and also, Gimp doesn't recognise images on my hdd when I try to open them.
So far I've used Gimp on Win 7 x64 and didn't have any problems. The only driver I currently have installed on my system is the graphics driver.
GIMP :: How To Open 2 Images As 2 Layers
Apr 9, 2011Basically what I need to do is capture a video shot, and place a play button on top of it. I thought the simplest way would be to just open each image as a separate layer but couldn't find a way to do that.
Eventually I made the screen shot the background image of an html page, and the play button the foreground image. Then I was able to position them just the way I wanted and capture a screen shot, then trim and edit in Gimp.
GIMP :: Unable To Open TIFF Images With 2.8
Aug 31, 2012I'm trying to work with TIFF images got from Image Pro Plus butGIMP 2.8 doesn't open them, I found that's a problem related to Image ProPlus because misses some tags. Also, I tried with ImageMagick using:
convert "prueba 1.tif" "prueba 1.png"
convert "prueba 1.tif" "prueba 2.tif"
The first works fine, just with some warnings, PNG image was createdsuccesfully.
The second doesn't work and in any case if I do:
convert "prueba 1.tif" -identify
got:
convert: incorrect count for field "DateTime" (27, expecting 20); tagtrimmed. `prueba 1.tif'.
convert: prueba 1.tif: unknown field with tag 40001 (0x9c41) encountered.`TIFFReadDirectory'.

GIMP :: Open Images In Thumbnail Size?
Oct 7, 2011My gimp opens all images in small thumbnail size (160 120). How can I get rid of this and get the files opened in their original size. I am running ubuntu 11.04 and gimp 2.6.11, and utilizing .NEF (nikon raw)
I have tried to remove $HOME/.gimp-2.6 - that didn't seem to work. I have installed and uninstalled ufraw - that didn't seem to work I have looked at gimp preferences, don't see there anything which would define reading in images into "thumbnail" size.
I am suspecting that after installing ufraw this problem appeared and I seem not be able to get rid of it. Removing $HOME/.ufrawrc didn't useful.
GIMP :: Shortcut To Move Between Open Images
Jun 1, 2013I am looking for the shortcut that allows me to move between different image windows in Gimp. In "other" applications, CTRL-TAB cycles between open images, but it doesn't work in Gimp.

May 27, 2011I have a task that I repeat all the time, where I have about 20 digital photos that are all taken of something the same size, at the same magnification, but not centered identically. I then need similarly centered, identical size and shape cropped images for all of the images. In Photoshop, a friend with the exact same task solves this by opening all of the images, making a rectangular selection of the appropriate size and shape by eye on the first image, and then dragging this rectangular selection from this first image into each other open images and hand-positioning in each image as he drags it in, so that all of the selections for cropping the images are the same shape and size, and can be individually positioned, rapidly. This exact solution is perfect for this task, and although it works great in Photoshop, selections can't be dragged intact from image to image in the same way in gimp 2.6.11 on ubuntu 11.04/gnome 2.32.1/linux 2.6.38-8 generic , so I am looking for a way to accomplish something similar.

GIMP :: (too Many Open Files) Error When Saving Or Open
May 6, 2013I'm using Gimp 2.8.4 on a MacBook Pro.
I have been working on an image file for several hours now, and as a result, there were MANY files open (probably over 30).
I attempted to save the file, and recieved the following error message:
"Could not read the contents of [folder name] Too many open files"
I then closed each of the open files except the file I was trying to save, but got the same results.
The same error message pops up when I try to open a file as well.

May 15, 2008We just purchased an Acer laptop computer, picked it up yesterday. Hubby is going to use this strictly for working on his pictures when out of town. He didn't even plan to hook it up to the internet. It has Windows Vista Home Premium, 2G of RAM, 120G of hard drive and a CD/DVD player/recorder. I installed Photoshop CS2, Nik Sharpener, Neatimage noise remover and Huey Pro Calibrater onto the computer last night.
When I opened Photoshop & Bridge, opened a DVD of some RAW images, Bridge would not show the thumbnails and I couldn't open any in Photoshop. In Bridge all that showed was a light blue box with CR2 over it and the file name below for each image. When I tried to open one I got a "Can not complete process due to a program error" message. I did open a jpeg image into Photoshop from the ones included in my documents and had no trouble with that. I didn't acutally try to do anything with it so I'm not sure that any of the options in Photoshop actually work, although they were all active with the jpeg image.

Jan 10, 2004I saw a preference somewhere in PS that told photoshop to open all images at 16.7%. You may be wondering why on earth I would want such an option, but it would come in handy sometimes when opening multiple images of the same size when there is a mix of verticals and horizontals. This way the horizontals would not completely fill the screen, making it easier to navigate through the open images when they are stacked on the screen.

Now, instead, CS5 does nothing, or throws up an open dialogue box of its own. What gives? And, sometimes, after trying to open images to edit them in CS5, I'll notice that CS5 now has, in its "Open Recent..." drop down menu under the File menu, some strange file names with an .ini suffix, or long strings of letters and numbers that mean nothing to me. Jun 19, 2013I have installed and updated both PhotoshopCC and BridgeCC.
I can display the images in Bridge. However, whenever I double-click on them I get the following error message' "Windows cannot find C:ProgramfilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6 (64 bit). Make sure you typed the name correctly and the try again." I can open the files from PhotoshopCC without going to Bridge.
What can I do? This may be related to the above problem: PhotoshopCC does not seem to set the file associations.
