I know this is probably very simple and despite having been using CAD for 15 years I cant find the answer.
In every cad version Ive had, you can do the following:
-You draw a simple line, then you want the right vertex to move 500mm to the right, so you select the vertex, pull to the right with polar tracking, type 500, and job done. Same if say you wanted the same vertex to move up, down etc.
If i try this same thing with a line at an angle, it works as i would have thought, but if i do it with a horizontal line and want to move the vertex horizontally, it seems to act weird and draws the line 500 but from the left hand point.
I used an example to represent a more complex animation that I am working on. Basically I have a block moving in vertex space because it is morphing.A proboolean cut has been applied to the block with a diamond shaped object, so that as the block morphs through space, it is being cut by the boolean operand (diamond shape object).
However, I want to achieve an outcome that when the object moves through the boolean cutting operand, whatever geometry that has been cut, stays cut and removed. So in a way, the boolean cut operand object acts as a "geometry eraser". Obvioulsy I would like to be able to control this behaviour too (soft selection, animating boolean cutting operand).
Is this achievable? Or do I have to look at another set of tools/modifiers?
I've seen a label style somewhere that can label the elevation of vertices and elevation points on feature lines. How to style or a procedure for creating a style for this?
I've found a couple of blogs that layout the steps for a style but it seems there are a few ways to do it so I'm looking for what could be considered the most effective/versatile approach.
I want to create new vertex points in feature line and 3dpol.
I have this: try { if (obj.GetType() == typeof(Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Polyline3d)) { Polyline3d p3d = (Polyline3d)trans.GetObject(entRes.ObjectId, OpenMode.ForWrite);
always catches the same Exception "the value is not within the expected range" .I have translated it because I get "El valor no está dentro del intervalo esperado". Perhaps is this: " Value does not fall within the expected range.".
I have tried it with different point3d values but always catches Exception.
With pol3d I have similar problem.

I’ve had this problem with my proposed elevations for quite some time so I finally want to fix it while I’m a little slow. The problem I have is when I change scales, my elevation’s (in dragged state) leader vertex does not connect to my line. I’ve attached my lable styles...
3ds max 2012. I know most of the base of the software. But I never understood the technique of adding Polignim, vertexs and lines to the object to make it more realistic
Here I am trying to create a vertex: URL....
This is what happens after I create the vertex: URL....
The problem is that the vertex is not part of the line. You can see it because I moved the vetex. Some of the line was supposed to move with the vertex. This means that vetex is not part of anything. How to create vertex on the line.
I would like to clone a cylinder along a Line, but not with a linear spacing between the cylinder, but center on the vertex of the line (see image).I have trying with the spacing tool, but I can't do that I want...
I have two line edges that cross but need a vertex at that point where they intersect. The lines are on different objects. How would I create one? I imagine this comes up quite a lot but it seems really difficult to do.
Is this possible, as a for instance in Autocad 2011 .If I had an heptagan (7 sides) (had to look this up LOL) which was equal sides and I deleted one line, would I be able to move the two end lines together so it is then a Hextegon (6 sides) and they are all still equal?Or move one of the end lines to close the gap, and all the other lines move with it to keep it in proportion.
I have the BIG Autocad Bible but not knowing what the name of this process is, makes it hard for me to look it up.I can select all the lines and move them but not close the gap.
One of my dimension scales doesn't draw a line back to the dimension when I move the number away from the dimension line. All my other dimensions do it. I keep looking for the setting that must be changed but I cannot find it. What setting creates a line from the dimension number back to the center of the dimension line if you pull the dimension number away from the line?
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
In Illustrator CS6 I can't adjust how far a line moves when I move it using the arrow keys. I've gone to Preferences>General>Keyboard Increment and changed the amount, but the line moves the same distance no matter what I put in. Neither Snap to Grid nor Snap to Point are turned on.
Using Autocad 2000LT and trying to locate as many 1.5" diameter circles as I can within a 21" diameter circle keeping all the circle .500" apart from any other circle and .500" away from the outer edge. Am using the array function. Trying to bring the first circle up to the line thats .500" in from the 21" outside diameter.
First when I zoom the 1.5" circle looks like a series of lines, not a smooth round circle. First how do I smooth out the appearance of the circle. Second, what commands do I use to move the edge of the circle to just tough the line so that when I measure from the outside dia to the far edge of the small circle I get 2".
problem I am encountering with adding vertices to the ends of polylines in AutoCAD LT 2012:
I typically use the drop down menu that shows up when hovering over the end (or mid) point of a polyline to choose "Add Vertex" to a polyline. If I do this to one end-grip of the polyline, it will add it onto the end of the polyline as an extension (desired and intended effect). If I do it to the other end-grip, it will add the vertex behind the end of the polyline as if I had used the mid-grip to do it (not the desired effect). If I wanted a vertex in the middle of two end points, I would do this procedure using the mid-grip, not the end-grip. One would think that by using an end-grip, it would come off the end, not go into the middle....one would think.
The Question: Is there a short key or quick command to use to guarantee the added vertex will extend from the end of the polyline rather than add one in the middle of the polyline, no matter which end I am trying to extend?
I have imported a dwg witch was created by Revit. The problem is that it creates polyline vertex for curves. But i want a arc, or at least not so many segments.
on the image; on the left is what i got, on the right is what i want.
Example as: i have 3 vertex (0,1,2) and you can see vertex 1 stay between vertex 0 and 2. Now, i want to delete this vertex how can do that. Similarly, i want to delete some vertex 3,5,8.
I currently click on a shape to see the grips. Then I put the cursor on a grip and see a window open that gives me the options of Stretching a vertex, Adding a vertex, or Removing a vertex. Is there a way when adding a vertex that you can add Mulitple vertexs without having to click on add vertex every time.
I have a set of polylines that have easting, northing and height values. However, I want to display the co-ordinates of each vertex within the polyline.
When I scroll over the vertices of the polyline the values change (bottom left screen) I simply want them displayed as a text.
I have a pdf xref with a polygonal clip applied. I'd like to change the shape of the clipping area and need to add vertexes to do so.
How can I add a vertex to a polygonal pdf clipping?
Usually I can just select a vertex and pressing crtl will cycle through add vertex, remove vertex, and if it's a line segment, change to an arc. When I select the vertex of a polygonal vp clip I can't do this.
I have a method for inserting a vertex to a polyline. But this does not work for closed polylines for the case shown below. The code fails if the point is on the last edge of the polyline.
public void AddVertexOnPolyline(Point3d addPoint,Polyline editPolyline) { Document acDoc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Core.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocu
Civil 3D API has "TinSurfaceVertex" class and "GridSurfaceVertex" class.
I use those to get vertex:
foreach (GridSurfaceVertex vertice in GridSurface.Vertices) { Autodesk.AutoCAD.Geometry.Point3d punt = new Autodesk.AutoCAD.Geometry.Point3d(vertice.Location.X, vertice.Location.Y,

In AutoCAD 2010 I could just click between the grips and it would automatically add the vertex. Now in 2013 I have to hover over the spot between the grips. Is there a way to change that so the default on the center grip is set to add a vertex instead of stretch?
how I can delete/remove a vertex from a map feature? I have a shapefile that I have connected to and I need to alter some of the geometry of a few of the parcels. I can move the vertices around and delete the entire feature, and check in and out with no problem... However I cannot delete or remove an unwanted vertex.
I don't suppose there exists a lisp or method other than PEDIT that would automatically delete vertices that are unnecessary. I have a set of plans that seem to have been drawn...interestingly.
A lot of polylines have these seemingly arbitrary vertices that break up longer straight lines.
Ideally I'd like something that would compare Vertex A, B and C, if they all share an X or a Y, remove Vertex B (assuming that A, B and C are sequential vertices on one Polyline) - perhaps with a way of adding an adjustable tolerance.
Is there a simple way to add a vertex anywhere you want in a shape or polyline? I double click those items and a menu comes up and I can add a vertex but it limits me where I can add the vertex and then it is a pain to make it work like I want.
