GIMP :: Trace Around Image To Create Line Drawing
Mar 24, 2012I'm trying to trace around an image to create a line drawing. The object I'm tracing has a lot of curves in it so using the Pencil Tool. Also, I've used the Paths Tool and then clicked "stroke path". That's all fine and well but it's taking FOREVER to trace the picture.
Since the image has a lot of curves is there a tool or gadget in Gimp that can provide a smooth curve, say, around a circle?

Dec 9, 2012I'm currently using auto cad 2000 because it's required in our class. When I make circles or move or objects there are no image guide. like when I make circles only the lines are there I still have to calculate what the diameter is rather than by simply looking how big the circle is. or when I'm connecting objects, It's very hard to connect complex objects by moving them because there is no guide to where the image is suppose to be when the mouse is at a particular place.

Aug 23, 2012Whenever i draw a new line, hatch etc - Autocad draws the object with a certain lineype. Then after i draw the line i have to manually click the line and set it's linetype to "By layer". It doesn't matter which layer i set as current, it never draws by layer, allways by this other linetype.
Using Cad 10 Architecture - But tried opening the file on other versions aswell, with the same result.

We also tried for "HIDEPRECISION=1" command , even then not displaying it.
Then we use "OBSCUREDLTYPE=1" then the missing object display but other all lines get too dark in the same drawing .
For sample , I have attached one pdf , in which you can see the missing line and object marked with bluecolor box.

for example in the imported file i have points to describe a road center line(CL),or edge of the road(ERD),breaklines(BRKL) and want lines represented by the descriptions to be drawed in the surface so that i can use the lines as guides in profiles design.I didn't want to use point number which are not serially ,and have tried to use point grouping without any success

AutoCAD 2013 :: Current Layer - Every Object Or Line Selected In Drawing Appear On It
Jan 16, 2013When I set a layer as current, every object or line I select in the drawing appear to be on that layer in the toolbar. Although in the properties toolbox, I see that the line I selected is still on the right layer.
I can't work in paperspace either, when I freeze a layer it freezes all objects. It seems like whenever I give a different layer to an object, it attributes to all object that same layer.
When I open the same drawing in acad 2008, everything is ok, the objects have the proper layers.
Is there a command for that or it's an acad 2013 problem?

Jul 16, 2012When using image trace in CS6, illustrator seems to be shifting the results. Is there anyway to prevent this. I have several images that I am tracing along with other vector elements that need to stay in alignment with each other.
The Blue is the location of the original image and the black is the tracing result. I'm seeing this shift in each of the view modes and regardless of which preset I use. I've also tried leaving the image linked and embedding the image with no difference.
In addition, I am having a hard time getting black and white images to trace to the same quality I had in CS4. As you can see I'm getting pinched sections on lines even with a Path setting of 97-100% and Noise of 1 px. I also tried a path setting of as low as 20%, the pinching of the lines was gone, but it was so over generalized that I lost a lot of the other character.
In CS4 I was able to use path fitting 2px Min area 10px corner angle 20 and get this much better result
the white hole is preserved, there is no pinching of the line. I keep reading how the new image trace is supposed to be so much better, but I can't seem to find any evidence of it in a simple a black and white image.
Photoshop :: Turning A Line Drawing Into A Shape Object?

I have a line drawing of a simple object that I would like to convert into a shape.
I have figured out how to cut the shape itself out of the original image using the magic wand select tool thing and altering the tolerance. So I have the cut-out shape on a transparent layer in a .psd file. All well and good.
I looked up "shapes" in the help center, and it says this:
"To convert type to shapes
When you convert type to shapes, the type layer is replaced by a layer with a vector mask. You can edit the vector mask and apply styles to the layer; however, you cannot edit characters in the layer as text."
It continues:
"Select a type layer, and choose Layer > Type > Convert To Shape".
Everything was going swimmingly untill that point - I go to the Layer menu - but "Type" is greyed out and therefore inaccessible.
I then did a search for "type layer" to find out what a type layer was - it says:
"About type layers:
After you create a type layer ...
tell me what a type layer is (I figure it has something to do with font, but I don't see how this relates to my line drawing), how to create one, or how to get my drawing into a type layer so I can convert it to a shape!
Illustrator :: Image Trace Doesn't Work With Large Images
Sep 30, 2013Illustrator's Image Trace doesn't seem to work at all with large images. The attached image shows the following:
A) The original raster cropped tightly.
B) Converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 242 paths and 4792 anchors.
C) Adding a massive amount of white space and then converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 407 paths and 1620 anchors.
For whatever reason Illustrator can't seem to handle large images. This test shows it's not an issue with the image being too complex since all I've done is add white space and the file was saved without compression so there should be no noise.
This type of glitch started with CS6 with the new Image Trace tool. Maybe setting Image Trace into legacy mode?
AutoCAD 2010 :: Inserting PDF Into Drawing To Trace Over The Objects
Oct 12, 2011I am using AutoCAD 2012. When I use Paste Special to insert and object as an Image Entity AutoCAD shuts down. I used it for years on older versions of AutoCAD with no problems. It is good to use when inserting a PDF into a drawing to trace over the objects for CAD use.

This layer is styled so that all text is centered. In this case, FDO_LAYER2 is having it's text left aligned. I'm pretty sure this is due to the method I am using for a new line. Is there something else I can use to break the line and maintain the center styling?
Using a second point for FDO_LAYER2 is not an option.

Oct 17, 2013I am new to Illustrator - I am scanning simple components on a technical drawing. These are line drawings - closed contours (for example, the outline of the cross-section of an aircraft wing). I am attempting to use Illustrator to convert the jpg scan to vector form - am saving the result as a .dwg file. I am then importing this into SolidWorks where I am attempting to extrude the form of the component prior to 3D printing.
In Illustrator I am using live trace to create the vector representation. However I'm finding that the vector representation appears to take the form of a number of segmented vector representations. As a result, in SolidWorks I can obviously not extrude the component.
Are there are additional steps within Illustrator that I should be using so as to clean up/unify the vector representation?

May 25, 2013So I am basically a brand new user to ai-cs6 and have been working on a project for a friend. I've drawn up the basic components of the logo she wants, all separate individual pieces. My intention is/was to trace in each piece, and scale, rotate, and clean them up according to how the final piece should look. Where I'm running into trouble is that the sketches are not point perfect, meaning there's some shading in the hand drawn, and the lines are rough in areas. I'm trying to avoid redrawing the pieces because we both are really happy with where they're at.
What I'd like to do with ai-cs6. How to trace very simply a one line vector of the outline of the image. So instead of creating a piece that has stroke straight from the scanned in artwork, I get a single line, with multiple points, that flows the simple shape of the piece. From there it seems it would be pretty simple to just increase the stroke weight and modify the style of line to make it look how we would like. except that since the sketch has some rough line sections ai-cs6 is adding either a lot of detail and making it look pretty rough, or it's missing entire sections and leaving them blank.
Illustrator :: Live Trace Tracing Options Shows Set Default Instead Of Trace?

Oct 7, 2012I'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.
Illustrator :: Results In Image Trace Don't Match Live Trace
Aug 8, 2012I just started using CS6, jumping from CS3. A major tool I use is Live Trace, and I have custom settings for that. I cannot find a way to make Image Trace behave the way Live Trace did for black and white line drawings. The results I get in CS6 are far inferior to those I got in CS3 in terms of retaining the look of the original raster image. Otherwise, I will have to leave CS3 installed just to do my Live Trace.
Here is a sample of what I mean. You can see the quality degredation in CS6 compared to CS3. (And it's much more obvious when it's full size and full resolution.)

Illustrator :: Object Layering Opacity - Fill Doesn't Block Out Object Paths Beneath
Jul 14, 2013I am having some trouble with a file in Illustrator CS6. Within a layer, when I add a fill to an object, the fill doesn't block out the object paths beneath. For instance, say I have a square object overlapping a circle object in Layer 1. The square object is above the circle in the layer. When I add a fill to the square, the circle stroke still shows through the square even though the overlapped part should be blocked out by the fill. The square is set to normal visibility, and I have made sure that there are no duplicate paths that would account for what I am seeing. (I.e., it's not a case where there's a second identical circle path that is on top of the square, so that it remains visible in spite of the fill.)
Other details:
- I'm mainly working with a white fill, but the problem is the same with fills of any color
- When there's a fill color in the circle path as well, the circle's fill color *is* blocked out—just not its stroke.
- I have restarted Illustrator and restarted my computer and these have not changed anything.
- There are other layers within the same document where the normal layering rules work.
- I tried copy/pasting some of the problem objects into a new document, and in the new document, the fill works properly.
- If I move the problem objects to another layer, then the fill works as it should. But as I'm dealing with a number of paths, it doesn't make sense to create a layer for each to solve the problem.
I can't tell if it's a matter of working in too large or complex a file.

AutoCad 2D :: Moving Vertex On A Line
Jan 18, 2012I know this is probably very simple and despite having been using CAD for 15 years I cant find the answer.
In every cad version Ive had, you can do the following:
-You draw a simple line, then you want the right vertex to move 500mm to the right, so you select the vertex, pull to the right with polar tracking, type 500, and job done. Same if say you wanted the same vertex to move up, down etc.
If i try this same thing with a line at an angle, it works as i would have thought, but if i do it with a horizontal line and want to move the vertex horizontally, it seems to act weird and draws the line 500 but from the left hand point.
AutoCad :: Deleting A Line And Moving Everything Up?
Jun 4, 2012Is this possible, as a for instance in Autocad 2011 .If I had an heptagan (7 sides) (had to look this up LOL) which was equal sides and I deleted one line, would I be able to move the two end lines together so it is then a Hextegon (6 sides) and they are all still equal?Or move one of the end lines to close the gap, and all the other lines move with it to keep it in proportion.
I have the BIG Autocad Bible but not knowing what the name of this process is, makes it hard for me to look it up.I can select all the lines and move them but not close the gap.
