AutoCad 2D :: Losing Dashboard Setup When Closing Drawings
Jun 12, 2012I am losing my dashboard setup when closing drawings/autocad, getting a bit annoying now, having set it back up for the umpteenth time.

View 2 RepliesI have a prob with my system in that when I close a drawing with a 3d view in a viewport and reopen it, I lose the 3D view and it flattens out, maintaining the view but losing all perspective. I can easily restore the saved view, but it is bit irritating.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe sold a customer a new Dell Precision Laptop - i7 16GB Memory, 512GB Solid State hard drive, Windows 7 64bit. He had upgraded to AutoCad 2013 from 2006. Since installing the laptop when he closes out of a drawing Autocad crashes, windows reports that the program had unexpectedly quit. It doesn't do it all of the time, but it could have something to do with multiple drawings, plotting etc, but it's not an easy one to generate. He does have an older plotter - DesignJet 500 that's installed through a network share off of another computer however I did completely remove the printer / driver and the issue was still occuring.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to close a drawing that is open on another user's computer, from my computer?
We have a problem with engineers opening a drawing, printing and marking up that drawing, then taking the print to a drafter to make changes to the drawing, but failing to close the electronic drawing file.
Normally, we just call the engineer and ask them to close the drawing. If they were away from their desk, we could just walk over and close the drawing ourselves. Now that's not possible. We have a new security protocol which locks the user's computer after ten minutes of non-use. We each create our own password which we're not supposed to share with others. I just want to be able to log into the server and close a drawing that someone else has open.
We are currently using autocad 2013 LT on windows 7 64bit. The program runs a bit slower than 2012 but the main issue is as follows.
when closing a drawing or multiple drawings (wether they have been recently saved or not) autocad will go into a "not responding" mode and then crash out. This happens at about 70% of the time and is completely random. It may crash a drawing one time but not the next time you are in the same drawing, or when closing multiple drawings may allow you to save some of them when cad closes but then crashes before all of them are saved. We have all of the current updates and fixes. We had the same issue with 2012 but not nearly as often.
autocad LT 2008 on windows 7 platform
after using this with only minor crashes for the last year I have now got problems with closing drawings which then locks autocad up and if someone else opens the file in the same program on windows xp then it crashes there program too while closing. I have tried redraw the drawing model file and produce a new drawing sheet exactly the same but it still crashes on saving of the file and have now noticed that any drawing i'm creating now does exactly the same. I have also completely reinstalled autocad LT 2008 to try to fix this problem but with no success. Has there been an update either with windows 7 or autocad that might have caused this problem and how to resolve this problem as I am now left with a computer thats useless to draw upon and rather not install an older version of windows just to resolve this problem after it running fine for over a year now.
If I have several drawings open at the same time and have done work to some of them, at the end of the day I just pick the AutoCAD application "close" button (the "X" in the top-right corner of the window) and I'm prompted "Save changes to <drawing>?" for each of the drawings.
Unfortunately, most of the times I do this in AC2011, AutoCAD crashes. The next time I open AutoCAD, it initiates the recover but all the changes have been saved in the *.dwg file.
I know this is not the best way to save and close drawings but it has never been a problem.
I used to be able to hold the ctrl button down and double click a block attribute to directly change the text (_attipedit) but when I shared this drawing with another AutoCAD user who returned the drawing that double click to edit is missing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I have more than one drawing open at a time, a not infrequent occurrence, when I close one drawing they all close. Before if I closed the drawing I had open, it would leave the other open for me to work on instead of having to re-open the whole CDR application all over again. I have deleted and re-installed several times and installed SP2
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can create a new drawing in Revit, save it to a flash drive, move it to a different computer. When I do this I go to open my drawing and I can see it in the preview but when I open it the drawing is blank.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to modify the page setup of multple drawings and have it save that way so everytime I open the drawing the chosen page setup is selected.
I'm aware of being able to set multiple page setups in the publish screen, but that isnt a permenant change to the drawings themselves, and not what I'm looking for.
volume dashboard on which method of calculating is based. Why sometime are different, huge differences between counting volume based in "computer materials" which of 3 is the best? for calculating? I am using very often average end area, is that correct?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust trying to bring in a Volumes Dashboard report from IE10 to Excel 2010 (it all worked fine until I my PC was upgraded from IE9/Excel 2007)
When the report is in IE10, I Select All and paste to Excel (as I always have done) and the numbers are not recognised as numbers (there is no convert text to numbers prompt) and seem to have a leading space which Find/Replace can't find and replace.
If I right click in IE10 and Export to Excel, most of the exported data has a weird character preceding it (but which can be found and replaced). What this character is and how to stop it appearing?

Is there a way I can sort the columns in the dashboard alphabetically? Normally you just click the title in these windows to toggle the way it sorts it, but you cannot do that with this tool. Its making my cut/fill report look messy, as the surface volumes are not in any order.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I open the Volumes Dashboard in a drawing and then close it, my cursor and my WCS compass start blinking erratically, and the program seems more apt to freeze up when I try to do other things from that point on, especially if I try to move to a drawing in another tab. If I bring back the volumes dashboard, it's fine again, but then I've got the annoying outlining of my volume surfaces that I don't want. how to handle this? Is it just an unavoidable glitch in the program?
(I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014.)
In our drawing office we use Inventor in a mining materials handling environment. Our output is mainly structural drawings where we require a bill of materials as part of creating a drawing. Whenever I insert a BOM in the drawing environment I get this table which is labeled in a foreign language (it looks like an Eastern European language) and the format is not as per the standard Autodesk installation setup.
How do I either revert back to the standard setup or do a BOM setup from scratch?
We use IV 2013 Professional on Windows 7 64 bit.
Trying to model a car dashboard, not the wheel or gears but the big shape you hit your knees on if you sit in a car. Following some simple box modeling to get the basic form, apply turbosmooth, add some edge loops to get the right amount of curvature on some edges, great.
I'm miserably failing the next step, which is adding in details like lcd screen and vents. But even something as simple as making a crease that goes left to right across the whole vehicle, since those loops end up breaking the smoothing and the nice subtle curve is gone.
So next I tried geting the basic shape and adding an edit poly modifier on top then another turbosmooth on top of that. But it's getting very out of hand with the amount of faces.
Another idea was putting in the detail first on a flat plane, then using FFD 4x4 to bring the curve back, but then I'm not able to pull out the pieces that came from the box modelling method, how the armrest area comes out from big piece itself.
Am I missing a method of doign this? I don't want to have to resort to just unwrappign it and adding my details with a normal map. I want to use real geometry, and I've seen some great models in the past with this kind of detail, but don't know how to get there.
I'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.
Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?
About 50% of the time, I get a crash when closing a drawing. When this happens, I get the following message: "AutoCAD LT Application has stopped working". This has been going on for sometime now and sometimes I am prompted to report the error, sometimes not. Everything shuts down, so if I have several drawing files open, I will loose any changes made unless I do a hard save for each one (which I have gotten used to doing).
I have the same problem with my license of Architectural Desktop 2004. My version of LT is 2011, running Windows 7 Pro, 64 Bit.
I am using Mac version of Autocad 2011. When I was editing a reference, I accidentally save and close the drawing. I re-open the drawing, it is stuck in the Reference Editor mode forever without any "save" or close" button. I tried all REFCLOSE, BCLOSE... nothing works.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using AutoCAD for many years and finally gotten fed up with this:
If I have a polyline which has a curve in it, and I PEDIT and CLOSE it, AutoCAD automatically closes it with a curve. Does any setting which I can turn off, so that it's closed with a straight line instead??
I am completely new to AutoCAD. I have been given a 2D DXF file with the design of an ion source. I have removed large parts of the design as I only need to electrode shapes.
I need to import the electrodes as a 2D DXF into my code to run simulations with them. However...
The code can read layers, and it searches for a closed loop within a layer and uses that to shape its electrodes. So I have isolated each electrode and saved them. The issue I'm having is the code finds no closed loops. Further investigation let me to the close, fillet, and boundary commands. Which I assumed would do the trick. However after a number of hours I am no closer to my goal.
I have isolated the problem to be linking a semi-circle to 2 lines. Because if I remove the semi-circle and replace with a straight line code will happily detect a closed loop. I have converted the entire thing into 1 polyline, and then to make sure its closed I have used the boundary command to create a polyline outline of the shape.
Even then, it is apparently not a closed loop. I was wondering if there is a glaringly obvious mistake I am making here, or if it comes down to resolution within the code. I'm looking into part 2
I am using Inventor 2014. I am receiving an error while closing a drawing. The error says "One or more drawings are being computed and are currently in raster state. The document(s) may be closed and pending updates will resume when the document is reopened.
Do you wish to continue closing?"
The drawing shows outdated views which I tried updating but they do not update. When I am trying to print the drawing, it shows incomplete drawing.
My AutoCAD closes down when closing a drawing (yes I AM selecting the right x). It happends with larger drawings and more often in layouts.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSubject pretty much sums it up. AutoCAD will crash 8 out of 10 times when I close a sheet set. This problem just recently started and the only thing I've installed was AutoCAD Map 3D.

I turned off the command line because I don't use it or need it on my screen. But each time after I do a plot preview the stupid thing automatically turns itself back on.
Is there a way to permanently turn this thing off because apparently hitting the "x" on the toolbar isn't working correctly.
Also, why did they do away with the flyout option on the commandline. At least then I could dock it somewhere and collapse it.
The program shuts down every time I save and close a drawing; this way I am loosing any other drawing that is still open.
