AutoCad 2D :: Closing Reference Editor
Sep 5, 2011
I am using Mac version of Autocad 2011. When I was editing a reference, I accidentally save and close the drawing. I re-open the drawing, it is stuck in the Reference Editor mode forever without any "save" or close" button. I tried all REFCLOSE, BCLOSE... nothing works.

I have created a bock in ACAD 2011 LT. I then save the block using the command line or ribbon button then immediately try to close the block editor without moving or changing anything. A dialog appears saying the changes have not been saved to the block and would I like to save? If I say no don't save my changes and reopen the block the changes have in fact been saved.
My question is there a way to get around this dialog box -Suppress it like FILEDIA = 0 for block editor or an option so it doesn't ask me to save.
The goal is to do this all from the command line w/ out dialog boxes.

I have structures and alignments data referenced. If I assign the structures ref alignments in the dwg with the data refs for labeling, the next time I open the dwg the ref alignments are set back to none, causing the labels to be ?
It seems like this worked in the past?

I'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.
New illustration of concept:

I am getting this error in my production drawings.
My setup is as follows:
- EG.dwg has my existing surface in it. I create a data reference to use it in other drawings.
- Level One.dwg has the EG surface data referenced in, and I use this to create alignments, profiles, and finish surface. All of these are turned in to data references.
- Storm Sanitary.dwg has my pipe designs. I data reference in the two surfaces, profiles, and alignments, and create pipe networks. I create references for these networks.
- Plan Profile.dwg is the production sheet I'm getting this error from. Every one of my civil objects is data referenced in to this drawing. Everything is inserted correctly, the pipes show correct FG surface elevations for their rims, etc.
BUT when I open this drawing, I get this error. I assume it's because my FG surface is not directly in the storm sanitary.dwg.
How do I get rid of this error, without combining drawings, or promoting the surface to one or more drawings? Isn't this exactly what data references is made for?

We've just started using an attribute in a dynamic block and I'm curious if there is a faster way to edit the text, like how you just click outside the dtext or mtext editor to save and exit. the editor.
We only need to edit the value field, not any of the other attritubes. I really like how the dynamic block is saving us some time, but the outdated editor is really irritating, and it's not always convenient to hit Tab then Enter on the keyboard.
Is there perhaps an alternate editor, or a way I can edit the value text in the mtext editor by default rather than opening up the Enhanced Attribute Editor?

I saw one video in which a Photoshop geek quickly launces his raw editor by clicking on a small, illegible icon in the lower right-hand of his Layer Icon in his Layers Dialogue but of course he doesn't explain how that works, and there is no such corresponding little sub-icon in MY Layers icon, and the word Raw doesn't even seem to show up anywhere in any menu. I know this has to be possible. I can open a raw file (.nef, in this case) the obvious way, but after switching it over to Photoshop I can't switch it back to the raw editor (?)

About 50% of the time, I get a crash when closing a drawing. When this happens, I get the following message: "AutoCAD LT Application has stopped working". This has been going on for sometime now and sometimes I am prompted to report the error, sometimes not. Everything shuts down, so if I have several drawing files open, I will loose any changes made unless I do a hard save for each one (which I have gotten used to doing).
I have the same problem with my license of Architectural Desktop 2004. My version of LT is 2011, running Windows 7 Pro, 64 Bit.

I've been using AutoCAD for many years and finally gotten fed up with this:
If I have a polyline which has a curve in it, and I PEDIT and CLOSE it, AutoCAD automatically closes it with a curve. Does any setting which I can turn off, so that it's closed with a straight line instead??

I am completely new to AutoCAD. I have been given a 2D DXF file with the design of an ion source. I have removed large parts of the design as I only need to electrode shapes.
I need to import the electrodes as a 2D DXF into my code to run simulations with them. However...
The code can read layers, and it searches for a closed loop within a layer and uses that to shape its electrodes. So I have isolated each electrode and saved them.The issue I'm having is the code finds no closed loops. Further investigation let me to the close, fillet, and boundary commands. Which I assumed would do the trick. However after a number of hours I am no closer to my goal.
I have isolated the problem to be linking a semi-circle to 2 lines. Because if I remove the semi-circle and replace with a straight line code will happily detect a closed loop. I have converted the entire thing into 1 polyline, and then to make sure its closed I have used the boundary command to create a polyline outline of the shape.
Even then, it is apparently not a closed loop. I was wondering if there is a glaringly obvious mistake I am making here, or if it comes down to resolution within the code. I'm looking into part 2

I am using Inventor 2014. I am receiving an error while closing a drawing. The error says "One or more drawings are being computed and are currently in raster state. The document(s) may be closed and pending updates will resume when the document is reopened.
Do you wish to continue closing?"
The drawing shows outdated views which I tried updating but they do not update. When I am trying to print the drawing, it shows incomplete drawing.

We sold a customer a new Dell Precision Laptop - i7 16GB Memory, 512GB Solid State hard drive, Windows 7 64bit. He had upgraded to AutoCad 2013 from 2006. Since installing the laptop when he closes out of a drawing Autocad crashes, windows reports that the program had unexpectedly quit. It doesn't do it all of the time, but it could have something to do with multiple drawings, plotting etc, but it's not an easy one to generate. He does have an older plotter - DesignJet 500 that's installed through a network share off of another computer however I did completely remove the printer / driver and the issue was still occuring.

I turned off the command line because I don't use it or need it on my screen. But each time after I do a plot preview the stupid thing automatically turns itself back on.
Is there a way to permanently turn this thing off because apparently hitting the "x" on the toolbar isn't working correctly.
Also, why did they do away with the flyout option on the commandline. At least then I could dock it somewhere and collapse it.

Is there any way to close a drawing that is open on another user's computer, from my computer?
We have a problem with engineers opening a drawing, printing and marking up that drawing, then taking the print to a drafter to make changes to the drawing, but failing to close the electronic drawing file.
Normally, we just call the engineer and ask them to close the drawing. If they were away from their desk, we could just walk over and close the drawing ourselves. Now that's not possible. We have a new security protocol which locks the user's computer after ten minutes of non-use. We each create our own password which we're not supposed to share with others. I just want to be able to log into the server and close a drawing that someone else has open.

Having problem when using Inventor to check in a (large->slow) file while closing vault at the same time?
One of my colegues had a drawing file lose some of his changes when he checked in. we could not see a reason why, as the file was in vault with the correct time stamp. the file was the same as the previous check in.
This morning i have had a similar problem, where by i had made changes before checking in last night and when i opened the file in the morning the changes where not there.
I looked on my c drive in old versions (before i did anything else to overwrite it!) and low and behold the changes there!
The only thing i remember doing that was not normal was to close Vault while this large file was in the process of checking in through inventor.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit laptop. When I close a drawing just after saving in AutoCAD 2013 64 bit, the program crashes. This will happen with one drawing open, or several. I also had this problem with 2011.
I have been using AutoCAD for 16 years and never had this problem with previous versions on earlier operating systems.

We are currently using autocad 2013 LT on windows 7 64bit. The program runs a bit slower than 2012 but the main issue is as follows.
when closing a drawing or multiple drawings (wether they have been recently saved or not) autocad will go into a "not responding" mode and then crash out. This happens at about 70% of the time and is completely random. It may crash a drawing one time but not the next time you are in the same drawing, or when closing multiple drawings may allow you to save some of them when cad closes but then crashes before all of them are saved. We have all of the current updates and fixes. We had the same issue with 2012 but not nearly as often.

We are experiencing a problem that inventor goes none responsive when closing large assemblies. Typically the problems occurs on assemblies with typrical over 3000 parts. The only way to get out is to manual crash the program.
Our machines are some of the powerful machines that you purchase on the market with SATA III solid state drives so the problem is not with the machines.
Wish we never upgrade from 2012, Autodesk should be embarrassed with the performance of 2013

Context : AutoCAD Map 3D 2013Visual Studio 2010.NET 4.0, C#, WPFFDOOracle DataStore
Requirement : When I start AutoCAD Map 2013, a default document called "Drawing1.dwg" is opened. I use the command NETLOAD to load my assemblies. Final Users don't NETLOAD, an entry in the registry does the job automatically. During Initialization, my application downloads from the database a Template DWT file to initiate automatically the connection to the DataSource, and shows the different layers and styles configured by the customer. A new drawing based on this DWT is then generated.
However, the first default document remains opened. It can be sometimes annoying for the user to have both documents opened. I've never found a nice solution to close this first default document.
My technical implementation, not working :
In the Initialize method coming from IExtensionApplication, I start my application (loading business classes, user interfaces, etc...). Once started, I download the DWT, and add a new Document to the DocumentCollection (Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager). To this new Document, I handle many events such as CommandWillStart, CommandEnded, CommandFailed, etc... At this time, my Application asks to the user to log in. And finally, I browse the whole DocumentCollection to try to close all documents that are not the new one based on the DWT.
DocumentCollection doc_coll = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager; _kleverageDocument = doc_coll.Add(dwtFilePath);
if (_kleverageDocument != null) {
_kleverageDocument.ImpliedSelectionChanged += new EventHandler(doc_ImpliedSelectionChanged); _kleverageDocument.CommandWillStart += new CommandEventHandler(doc_CommandWillStart);
[Code] ....
When I call the CloseAndDiscard method for each of the other Documents, I always get an Exception telling me that the document is currently drawing. Actually, the command "NETLOAD" is stil running. How can I do ? I tried another way, by using handled events on DocumentManager
Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.DocumentActivationChanged += DocumentManager_DocumentActivationChanged; Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.DocumentBecameCurrent += DocumentManager_DocumentBecameCurrent;

autocad LT 2008 on windows 7 platform
after using this with only minor crashes for the last year I have now got problems with closing drawings which then locks autocad up and if someone else opens the file in the same program on windows xp then it crashes there program too while closing. I have tried redraw the drawing model file and produce a new drawing sheet exactly the same but it still crashes on saving of the file and have now noticed that any drawing i'm creating now does exactly the same. I have also completely reinstalled autocad LT 2008 to try to fix this problem but with no success. Has there been an update either with windows 7 or autocad that might have caused this problem and how to resolve this problem as I am now left with a computer thats useless to draw upon and rather not install an older version of windows just to resolve this problem after it running fine for over a year now.
