AutoCAD Inventor :: Checking In While Closing Vault?
Jun 12, 2013
Having problem when using Inventor to check in a (large->slow) file while closing vault at the same time?
One of my colegues had a drawing file lose some of his changes when he checked in. we could not see a reason why, as the file was in vault with the correct time stamp. the file was the same as the previous check in.
This morning i have had a similar problem, where by i had made changes before checking in last night and when i opened the file in the morning the changes where not there.
I looked on my c drive in old versions (before i did anything else to overwrite it!) and low and behold the changes there!
The only thing i remember doing that was not normal was to close Vault while this large file was in the process of checking in through inventor.
I am using Inventor 2009 and have always been told not to check out files from the Vault directly. Rather to use Inventor when checking them in or out. What is the reason for this and has that changed with current versions?
Installed Product desgin suite 2014. I can create a new inventor dwg file and place a base view of an assembly into it. I then attempt to check it in and it causes Inventor to not respond and eventually crash. When I reopen the dwg from my working folder and attempt to check it in again it gives me an error saying that the file already exists.
If you make alterations to a model, and then switch to vault menu, your model is red with an asterix (requires saving). If you click check in on this, you get the message that it needs saving, click ok. It appears that it has worked but all the buttons on the toolbar are frozen. if you click the big I all the ribbon greys out and you need to restart Inventor. The only button that still works is Suite Workflows.
I have SP1.1 installed as well as the vault hot fix.
I have Machine.iam with all children checked out, except for company-library-parts and Content Centre parts.
After changes to non library parts and checking in machine.iam (with 1 or more company librarie .iams in it) Inventor says: machine.iam and (x) dependent files must be saved.before they can be checked in.save and continue?
Answering Yes -> Inventor says: One or more documents have been modified but save was unsuccessful. You must save the document prior to check in. (but I did save before check in!). Only option is to press cancel..
All filenames of library.iams in the vaultlist in inventor are turned red with an * behind the filename stating they have changed.(?) Somehow inventor thinks the library.iam haved changed in this machine.iam..
If i do this again with all included children checked out, but not the library files, the result is the same.
I tried to find out what is wrong with these library-parts (all library.iams (?)) so I opened a few of these library.iam (with the librarie.ipj) and the update button is greyed out so there are no changes..
We “solve” this now by closing the machine.iam, inventor then asks: save changes?, press Yes, an new window pops up: file “machine.iam” is checked out to you. Do you want to check it in now?, press Yes, a new window pops up asking which files you want to check in: machine.iam and all checked out parts in it, press OK and all will be checked in.
But this only works with files that are already in the vault, not with new drawings of iams.
We used to have the problem after saving an part or assembly -> Inventor would ask after pressing close: do you want to save, as if the first save didn’t work.. Now we have a bigger problem..
Also sometimes checking out include children only includes all direct children and not also children of children.
I have a lot of custom libraries for purchased items for my projects. When I bring them into my assemblies I cannot turn on or off surface planes or make any changes.
I get the message that the file is not checked out to me. How can I make it so they are always checked out to me. The libraries are mine on my system.
I have some commands in which I add a button to the context menu in certain situations. Depending on the situation the button may be added or removed.
I'm alternating between using iterating through the definitions on the object they belong and if I have access to the it such as events that expose the commandbar object I iterate through it's buttons. If I don't I use a try/catch on the ControlDefinitions. Iterating through that causes an unacceptable pause.
I've always thought using exceptions to test objects is expensive but the delay breaks the users flow due to the pause.
What is the correct way to test for this?
I also run into this situation because I have different addins that add different sets of controls from a common set of dlls depending on the use context. Try/Catch works but is that the recommended way to test for things. I often need to test for the existance of things such as parameters (I have some plugins which will recreate sets of needed user parameters and some have hundreds if they don't exist already) and try/catch seems to be the best method.
we are a large manufacturing organisation and currently are using Inventor 2014 for our product design and day to day production drawing. We purchased Inventor 2014 recently for its BIM transfer capabilities. It would appear however that we can only view the outcome of the transferred files fron Inventor within Revit its self.
As we do not require Revit for any production work, purchasing a Revit licence is not an option. I recently downloaded the trial version of Revit Architecture to review the transfer files but the trial licence is now ready to expire.
I am looking to check the hiddenline status of a part in a drawing. The drawing is made from an assembly. I dont want to take all the segments from the view and check for each of them. I want a way I can just grab the entities that are made from an occurence.
I was hopping to use the drawingcurve(modelobject), but I dont know what to use as the modelobject! is it the edge, edges, component definition... Here some of the code that is not working.
Dim _portePattern As OccurrencePattern = oassbly.ComponentDefinition.OccurrencePatterns.Item("Pattern Porte") Dim _PoigneeOcc As ComponentOccurrence Dim _PorteOcc As ComponentOccurrence Dim PatEle As OccurrencePatternElement Dim _poigneeDef As ComponentDefinition Dim _poigneeSFbody As SurfaceBody Dim _poigneeEdges As Edges
I'm fairly new to Inventor and have been working with frame generator and analysis recently. Will Inventor 2013 check or analyize a frame to see if it meets ASD/AISC code similar to what RISA 3-D will do? If so, how can you perform this check?
We are trying to get task scheduler to automatically download certain files from the Vault. Templates and Styles. The templates work great, but there is no way to specify any filetypes other than Inventor filetypes. Am I missing something? Is there a way to specify non-inventor filetypes?
When I get latest versions of files from Vault Explorer and then open them in Inventor, the vault status of the files in the Inventor browser shows a triangle with an exclaimation mark inside of it. When I move my mouse over the status icon, it says "vault not open". There is no response when I try to log into the Vault within Inventor.
I upgraded from 2009 to 2010 Inventor and Vault two weeks ago. Everything worked fine until today. Vault Explorer seems to be working fine. The ADMS console seems to also be working fine. I can do all the routine tasks in both programs. The problem is only in Inventor.
I am using the autodesk suit 2011. The problem I am having is when I copied a block from autocad using the copy command, then used the paste command in an inventor .dwg and it inserted as an autoCAD block. When I check the finished drawing into vault the autocad block does not show up and will not print.
We have a user that has been experiencing problems when checking files into vault. The problem occurs when he copies a design (the drawing and part file) in vault then checks out the files to make changes, saves it and checks it back in, Inventor doesn't check in the changes. The preview window (i.e.. dwf that's generated on check in) is correct however the thumbnail is wrong and when you open the latest version none of the changes have been made.
This is taking up a lot of time because he has to make the changes twice and also has to be constantly looking back in vault to files he has just checked in to make sure they are correct.
We are a mid sized company the builds our parts from raw materials. Steel Coils, Steel tubing, Steel plate, etc.
We are have been migrating from MDT to Inventor over the last few years. We are now trying to implement Vault and integrate that data into our ERP system. We would like to model a part and assembly and check that into Vault then pass the BOM into our ERP system.
It all sounds good up until I looked at how our part files were structured. There is not BOM in an ipt that I have found phantom or referential. Here is my problem
It takes 1 lb of a .0625" thich steel sheet that is 6.5" wide. We stamp our product in a 200 ton press producing a finish componet.Problem 1- Part1.ipt (model of my stamping) does not have a lower level it is a component in Inventor there is no BOM that I have found.Problem 2 - Part2.iam uses part1ipt but we punch a hole in it and push material outward to create a lip so we can lap weld the next part. When I try to extrude this feature I can only cut the part I cannot add material or deform it in any way.Problem 3 - We also manufacture bent tubes. We consume 1.5 ft of part C to make part D. I cannot insert 1.5ft of a part that is 20ft long as we buy it. then we bend it. I cannot insert a 1.5ft part into an assembly and then bend it.
Major problem - even though I can change the dwg file or idw file to add a parts list Vault does not put this information in the Item master BOM.
I have opened Vault for the first time and I don't know how to access it, it wants a username/password/server/database. I am one of two people in the company how use inventor etc so there is no existing server/database within my company so I assume i have to set one up?
We have a product line that relies heavily on iAssemblies. The main assembly and several layers of subassemblies are all iAssemblies. All the children that needed to be generated so far were added to the vault.
If I activate a different member in the main assembly factory, Inventor wants to update some of the various children. For some reason, vault won't prompt me to check out the children. I get a variety of errors, unless I manually check out the children.
There are at least 20 iAssemblies involved at different levels of this thing, not to mention all the iParts thrown in as well.
I am using Inventor 2014. I am receiving an error while closing a drawing. The error says "One or more drawings are being computed and are currently in raster state. The document(s) may be closed and pending updates will resume when the document is reopened.
Do you wish to continue closing?"
The drawing shows outdated views which I tried updating but they do not update. When I am trying to print the drawing, it shows incomplete drawing.
I'm having issues when I create sketches using the line tool. I should be seeing constraints as I create them and a green dot when the object is closed. This is not the case however, and when i attempt to extrude or offset the sketch I can only select individual lines.
I'm using the free Vault that doesn't have a batch print option so I've been writing some code that does the trick.
The code lists open drawings, assemblies and parts, and depending onwhich is selected, displays a list of all the drawings associated with the file and it's sub-components.
Everything is good except that when the list of drawings is populated I am only able to search through the working folder for drawings. This means that if the drawing has been modified by another, or the drawing has not been opened on the local computer, it will not print (or print the old version).
Is there a way to pull the latest files from vault into the working folder automatically? Currently the only way this is possible is by selecting "Get/Checkout" in vault and downloading the files.
A customer has a problem with the add-in of Vault in Inventor. Log In and Log Out options are lost as shown in the picture. The machine already formatted and installed applications again but the problem continues.
I am making a copy design of a big file, two things I need to change manually which takes lots of time:
I need to change the status of files from Reuse to Copy, also I need to change the paths to the right ones as the paths that kick in by default when I change the main directory on the top are not right.
Is there a quick way of changing status of all the files to Copy, kinda shift and highlight or the way Vault renames files with Replace option? With big assemblies connected with 10 drawing files doing it all by hand.
I started using inventor when he started the job. I have been using Inventor for about 3 years now. My question is that I have always practiced good file management at every level of a project from single parts to large assemblies; however at this new job the file management is horrible, in the last 3 years the company has been through 13 different drafters, thus each drafter was saving files in different location and names making finding parts and assemblies a nightmare.
The problem I am having is that the lead designer is insisting that we implement vault, and that it will solve our problems, However I feel that we needed to develop a universal file and naming convention first, get our file hierarchy in order before we try and implement vault. There will only be 2 of us accessing the cad files and I don't think that vault would even be a good fit for our work flow.
We are trying to migrate our 2010 and earlier inventor files that exists in our vault 2012 professional fully replicated environment to The latest inventor release.
We are trying to utilize the task scheduler. but when attempting to use the "Migrate Files from Vault" and select the option to add folders. we receive several pop ups, one after another. The header states "folder" and in the message box is simply "1000" then an "ok" button.
After clicking ok a half dozen times the dialog finally comes up to select the folder, but the entire vault is not available in the selection window. I have tried this on several machines and 2 different databases. Same result.
I'd like to get the Vault file Id from an inventor document on the local workspace in order to be sure that it has been checked in (I want to be sure that all the files on the local disk have been checked in).
I search for a file in Vault 2014 and find it needs refreshing i.e. the double red arrows icon in "Vault Status" column. I hit the refresh button in the ribbon and the file still has the double red arrows icon and doesn't appear to refresh.
I recently installed Vault pro 2013. I was running Inventor 2012 at the time.. My vault add-in stopped loading. I installed Inventor 2013 and the vault add-in still won't load. I've gone to the Add-in manager 2013 and set it to loaded. I hit the "OK" button and nothing. Open the manager up again and it says "unloaded". Something is going on that is not allowing my vault add-in to load.
I am having issues getting my .dwg files to check back in to Vault Basic. I can get all different types of files (.iam .ipt .idw) to check in without issues, but .dwg files hang and Inventor will eventually lock up.
I've tried disabling Visualization and I still cannot make it past this point. I can even tell it to check in everything at once, and it will breeze through the other files but any .dwgs will hang.
My PC Config:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 16 GB RAM Dual AMD Radeon HD 6450 Running Product Design Suite 2014
the "place item from vault" icon is grayed out and not available for selection. how do a place a stock part located in the vault, into an assembly i am currently working on?
I have one computer that can't connect to the Vault Server. It use to work fine and I am not sure what happened. I have gone to the extreme of uninstalling and re-installing and still nothing. I am in the same project as when it was working. I have checked the Application Options Content Center and made sure that the Access Options is set to Autodesk Vault Server.
When I click on Vault Server, everything is grayed out except "Log In" and "Connection Options". If I click on either of them the dialog box goes away and nothing happens. No error dialogs nothing. If I go to the project amd click on the Configure Content Center Libraries button it just disappears and nothing happens. Not sure what else to do.
