AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Distributing Infrastructure And Models In 3D PDF Format
Jan 28, 2013Infrastructure Modeler is a handy tool for creating nice 3D models for presentation. But how can we distribute these models for stake holders to review? Sure we can create nice video presentations but we want them to be able to nagivate the model freely. Is there any way to get the models into 3D PDF format?
The same issue arises with Civil 3D. Apparently it does not support output to 3D PDF. Do we have to purchase a driver for this?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Infrastructure Design 2013 System Lockup
May 20, 2012Imagine a fresh machine and a fresh Infrastructure design suite 2013 install...sound sweet? It was for all of 3 or 4 minutes.Wonder what causes this squeaky clean system and install to freeze up completely, requiring nothing less than a reboot.
It happens every time I select any pulldowns in the quick access toolbar located at the very top of the screen above the ribbons.cause I need to give that "party crasher" the boot.

Jun 25, 2013The installation of IDSP has been an adventure. After a few rough starts Autodesk support team got us through the installation of 2 computers. Now I am attempting to install IDSP on my computer and have run into a number of errors that between this forum and Autodesk support I have worked through.
I start the install once again and looked like everything was installing ok.
That is until I get an message "Allied product is not found" and the install fails and removes all installations up to this point. The failure happened while installing the Civil 3D Language Pack.
Install log states:

GIMP :: Set Up Template For Dealing With Printing Four Images On Sheet
Jan 2, 2014I wanted to set up a template for dealing with printing four images on a sheet.
I created an image the size of the sheet and then added four layers, each of the desired image size which needed to be positioned appropriately.
When I went to position the images, I could not find any reasonable way with the move command or with any of the layer operations to position each layer precisely.By that I mean simply type in the coordinates of the upper left corner, or move with the mouse where I see a text version of the upper left coordinate of the new layer position as I move.
If trying to position using the mouse, the lower left of the status line shows the position of the pointer itself, so that is useless in positioning the layer as a whole; and the numbers to the right of the per-cent size display show how much the layer has moved relative to its starting position, not the absolute position of the upper left corner. (I'll grant that the latter is useful, but in this case one needs something else, particularly if a layer has been moved and needs to be repositioned to a fixed location.)
The only way I could get what I wanted was to expand to 800%, and at that magnification I could grab the upper left corner with the mouse so the mouse position was itself the upper left corner position. Surely there's a better way?
Layer/Layer to Boundary Size... does not appear to work as advertised. The offset appears to be relative to the original size of the layer, not the original size of the image. The panner image is limited to the size of the layer, not the image. When you first bring up the dialog, you are unable to reposition the layer unless you change the layer size to make the layer smaller. If you make the layer half the size of its original size and then click "Center", the offset is set to - 1/2 the size of the original image, not + 1/2, which seems bizarre. The layer is scaled properly, and ends up where you would expect (based on the center command given, but not based on the offsets indicated), but the values in the Offset boxes seem to have the wrong sign. It works by moving the original layer relative to the desired new layer, rather than position the new layer size relative to the image. Which means you can't move the layer relative to the image if the layer is smaller than the image, and the graphic panner doesn't show you the layer position relative to the image as a whole. It is not at all intuitive and is not useful for quite a few common cases.
Layer/Transform/Offset shifts the contents, but not the layer itself. Which is what it is supposed to do, so that's ok; it's just not usable for this operation.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Can Only Run 2011 As Administrator
Sep 6, 2011I have a user who installed Map 3D 2011. We originally had some install issues, but a clean install and update to .NET framework 4.0 has seemed to finally be able to allow us to install the software. During installation the AV software was deactivated. User has full admin rights. Now when he double clicks the icon to launch the software he's receiving an error dialog box that is titled "Exception in acmgd.dll ARX Command". The only way he can get it to run correctly is to right click on the icon and select "Run As Administrator".

Jun 5, 2013We are using .cuix file which gives access to tools in custom .arx file in AutoCAD 2012/2013. We load the menu using the .bundle mechanism and the plug-in - using button from the menu. If the user is Administrator (or executes AutoCAD as Administrator) the menu, toolbars and ribbons are loaded correctly and the user can load and unload the application (lisp function in .mnl file is used for that), but if the user is not an administrator either the menu, toolbars and ribbons are not correctly loaded or they are loaded, but the user can not load the application.
We have found that a probable cause for this behaviour is that AutoCAD tries to create/renew the .mnr file when first loading a .cuix file and since the user has no administrator rights this can't be done in the "C:Program FilesAutodeskApplicationPlugins" folder where the bundle is and AutoCAD creates the .mnr file in its own support folder ("C:Users<User>AppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD 2012R18.2...Support") together with a copy of the .cuix file and changes the path for loading the .cuix file to this location. Since the .mnl file containing the function for loading/unloading is not copied with the .cuix file the application can not be loaded.
The user has to delete the created files under the support path of AutoCAD, unload the .cuix file and then reload it from the correct location to resolve the problem. Restarting AutoCAD leads to the same problem.
Is there a way to prevent this behavior other then running AutoCAD as administrator (that is not always an option)?
Photoshop :: CS As A Non-Administrator
May 29, 2009I recently installed Photoshop CS for a user. After installing, I ran the program without issue. When the user logged in and tried to run it the following error was displayed: "Current user account does not have privileges to perform product activiation. Run this application from a user account with administrative priveleges or contact your system administrator." We do not allow any users to run as administrators at the company I work for. We are willing to elevate permissions for users if a program references files that standard users do not typically have access to. We attempted giving full control to the Photoshop folder but that did not work. Has anyone run into this error and found where the permissions need to be changed?

May 13, 2012I've seen several similar threads with problems with Bridge, nothing recent with run issues with Photoshop CS6. I have installed most of the programs downloaded from the Cloud. Most run. So far, I've found Bridge, Encore and Indesign encounter a "Problem" upon opening and close with no further message or details. Dreamwever, Flash, Illustrator and Premiere run as far as I've tested.
From my user account Photoshop CS6 brings up a message about a locked scratch file and cannot run. I can start PS CS6 using Run As Admin and everything seems to run fine. Changing permissions on discs and on my user account still has PS CS6 fail to start. I've read similar posts on earlier releases. I have tried purging the preferences, both manually and using the crtl+shift+alt start. I still cannot get PS CS6 to run from my user account.

Mar 20, 2013I have had a problem with the Nik Software Silver Efex Pro (SEP) plugin running extremely slowly, but only at certain times. It's been pretty good for the past few months, but it suddenly took a nose-dive a few days ago. It takes ages to load the presets and to process the image in Photoshop once I have made my selections in SEP. I just thought that as SEP is a direct plugin to CS6 Photoshop then perhaps it's something to do with the way Photoshop itself runs. I switched the running of Photoshop to 'Run as administrator' (just right click the program in the start menu and go to compatibility tab) and SEP now runs extremely fast. why running as Admin should make such a difference? Are there any problems in running in Admin mode?
I run Norton Internet Security, and thought that as I'm now OK in Admin mode it might be a virus-checker problem, and running in Admin mode was getting around the problem. I do have both versions of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit) included to 'allow' access in Norton.Here is my system config. My PC runs very well in all other respects.

I have CS6 running on an SSD. Initially with CS6 Beta I found I had to run as Administrator. I eventually discovered how to run as a user by going into Preferences / Performance and setting my scratch disk to my hard drive.
now I have the CS6 release. I deleted CS6 Beta as instructed and followed directions for the install. CS6 works fine except for the bugs that I reported in the beta forum . My problem is now that Bridge insists on running as Administrator. If I try and run it as a user, it comes up and quits immediately. It doesn't make a wisp of difference where I set my Cache file, SSD or hard drive. I can even deal with that, however now I can't start Bridge from Photoshop! I click on File / Browse in Bridge and nothing happens. If I start Bridge then go to Photoshop and click on File / Browse in Bridge, still nothing happens. I have to manually switch to the Bridge window.

If I create a precast stair in default template I get "end with riser" turned on automaticaly. If I copy that stair to my template and create new stair, "end with riser" is turned off and I manually have to adjust stair afterwards.
Problem is "end with riser" is now an instance parameter of stairs and I can't find where to change the default value.
Why is the stair type that works in default template stuffed when copied to my template?

I have no interest in saving the template, or the collection separately, since neither has any use without the other. And without saving them as one finished item, I have no way to convert the colour profile of that item. Oct 2, 2006i have an image that is 28' wide by 60' high. i have to tile print it, but i have to print it out on film (see thru acetate). it has to be able to print at 1400 dpi. i know how to print at 1400 dpi on adobe photoshop, but i dont know how to tile print on that program. i have the image now in illusrtator, because it lets me tile, but i cant get it to print out for film (1400 dpi). im using a epson 1280 printer.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Link Template Does Not Appear
Sep 25, 2012I have a client with AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 with an OLE DB Provider for SQL Server Data Source and a dbConnect link template connecting to the database.
Normally, when an object that is linked to the database via the link template is selected, the data from the linked table appears in the properties palette. Recently a change what made to the table (view) that the link template and the Link template no longer appears. The view was restored to its original state, but the link table still is not visible.
If the data source is disconnected via the task pane, the link template reappears (with only the key showing, of course). The data can still be seen via the link template "View Linked Table" context-sensitive menu in the task pane so the link still remains.
I have disconnected, deleted, and rebuilt the data source, but it has not worked and I cannot delete the link template as there are several thousand objects linked via the template.

May 31, 2011I have created several dwt's that are used fairly extensively in my organization. They are just the standard setups; 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 17 or 24 x 36 sheets with title blocks. What I was wondering is how to set up standard templates for things like multileader and dimension styles. If I create the styles in the dwt, and then save the it, would any person to use the dwt afterword have those styles available? Or is this something a bit more complicated like having everyone point to the same "acad.lin" file so that we all have the same linetypes?
