I just upgraded from AutoCad LT 2008 to 2013. I cannot offset a line that is drawn the x-axis. I also cannot copy an item with the ORTHO command on and run it along the x-axis. I'm only allowed to move it along the y-axis. I've now waisted at least three hours messing with every possible command that I can think of trying to fix it. What do I have set wrong?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAny one deal with lines that appear to the right of each line that is drawn? For example if I draw a vertical line I get a line at the start point and the end point that display off to the right 2 cm or so. Zoomed in or out, always about 2 cm. After about 15 minutes, every line does this. Pretty bothersome. I thought it was a graphics card but the blocks in my drawings go off to the right in which they were created. So if the block is rotated, these little 'tails' rotate with it.
I tried some troubleshooting - Reinstalling/updating graphics card driver, switching monitors, but no luck.
I have 8gb of ram on a windows 7 Bit system, and have an Autodesk/AutoCAD certified graphics card - an AMD FirePro 3900 (ATI FireGL). You'd think that this 'certification' would prevent problems like this. What do I know.
On a side note, Draw Order > send to back/send to front does not appear to work either on my display.
I use splines a lot to provide a contiuous smooth curve between two lines which are co-planar. The splines are drawn by connecting the ends of the two lines and then the tangent direction set by hovering over the end grips. I then use the FLATEN command to convert these splines to polylines that can have their lineweights set to a value other than 0. My problem is that sometimes when i use the FLATTEN command, the spline is erased.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm wanting to have vertical and horizontal construction lines already created whenever I start a sketch so that I can set symmetric constraints to the part I'm drawing up. At the moment, I have to draw both lines every time and constrain them to the center point. It would be much easier if it was already there when I started so I can start on the sketch right away. Is there a way to do this? I've included a photo of what I'd like to do.

Is it possible to automatically project the x-axis, z-axis or z-axis onto the sketch plane?
I.e. every time you open a new sketch the corresponding lateral and vertical axis will be projected onto the sketch.
With my inkling pen i've created a drawing for PS. It now contains 30 layers, each one has a line. I would like to animate these lines/layers, so it looks (in an animated gif) like the lines are drawn one by one.
Is there a "quick" way to do so?
How to get the Axis line on a steel Member (W18) to show when creating 2D Elevation or Section of It. I have been able to create center lines by placing a 3d grid and then changing from No Plot and it creates center lines on the elevation. But all jobs do not require a 3d grid so I would like the axis line form the member to show in the 2d elevation.

I have seen brush strokes, but they only really provide a texture rather than a variation in the line as far as I have seen.
I am drawing in autocad in 2d and my lines keep coming up on the z axis which i only want them to come out in x and y is there anyway to shut that off so it will no longer draw on the z axis?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have reason stumbled across the offset assembly functionality of corridors, and for the most part, I have been quite impressed. One thing that has come up that is odd to me that when I create a surface from the corridor using feature lines, the feature lines that are created by the offset assembly are not added to the corridor surface, even though they are visible and can be selected. When I create the corridor using links, everything is fine and the surface looks great. I can work using the links, but the more curious part of my nature is a bit tortured not knowing why this is happening.
On a related note, any strong preferences/reasons for using links vs. feature lines, or vice versa?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working in ACAD 2012. I am at times, unable to draw simple vertical lines in the z-axis. Drawing pluming riser diagrams in 3D. Steps I am taking,
1) Opening the drawing.
2) X referencing a floor plan.
3) Changing the view using the cube to SW Isometric
4) Using the LINE command selecting a point, aligning the cursor with what seems like the Z-axis and entering the distance, heighten enter.
The line drawn is flat. This line can be seen as flat when rotating views. The only solution I have found is to use the "Reset Autocad Settings to Default"
Observations: Sometimes I am able to draw in 3D just fine, but something will happen in the middle of the drawing process that will now only allow me to draw flat. Also was never able to draw polylines in 3D is that how it's supposed to be? Used another computer with the same drawing, at first won't allow me to draw in 3D but after a couple attempts will eventually draw in 3D just fine. Tried starting from a blank template, no luck. Tried changing drawing space to 3D modeling and 3D basics, no luck. Also, when working drawings with existing 3D objects, I am able to snap to vertical point as a start point but cannot snap to a point on any other points on the object that at are at a different elevation.
When placing a dimension with the text outside of the extension lines, it defaults to placing the text either above right or below left of the arrows. If you try to grip/drag the text to another location (i.e. below right or above left) it won't allow it. I don't know if it is following some standard, but in the example shown, I had to explode the dimension to position the text in the preferred location.

Those lines are damn ugly... is there a way of fixing this? Custom shatter map is done via a fractal noise and colorama effect.
i try to make an animation. I create a cylinder and i want to rotate it by longitudinal axis. i click 'components', select the cylinder and after i click 'position' to select the axis that axis system appears in the right side of the cylinder not in the middle. If i continue whit this settings the cylinder will rotate by a circle not by his longitudinal axis. How can i move that axis sistem in the middle of the cylinder? I can drag it but can't place it exactly in the middle.

I created two expressions: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
and this one: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)!=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
I then created two offset components, one called truncated, and one called full, and assigned the heights to match the expressions.

I'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!
I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.

I need a pit configuration, and I use the offset command to offset a base polyline to first 10 m and then 3 and so on.. is there a way to do this in an automatically way, that you can choose the lenght of the offset for each "offset" (i.e. 1st 10 m, 2nd 3, 3rd 10 m, 4th 3 m, and so on. I am actually using civil 3D.

When I import audio (.WAV) it works fine, but if I offset it to a later frame the waveform moves to the right frame but when scrubbing the audio stays at 0. Making if very difficult to lip-sync. I have tried re-caching, playing the scene all the way through and all other options I have seen online.

Similar to when you can change the linetype and linewieght, is there a precentage that allows to dim lines? Like when you insert .pdf plans as underlay, and you can actualy reduce the opacity. So that when you plot the plan drawing, some lines look solid black, but some are almost impossible to see? Or should I just change the colour of the line to light gray?

In the attached bitmap the top leader shows the result of running the code and the bottom one the appearance I want which is obtained by changing the AutoCAD properties of the leader under

I can't identify anything in the API which allows me to draw with this change, but feel it should be there. Searching the web for code to draw leaders, basically only returns minor variations on this code with only the same functionality.
